In a world that no longer makes sense.......
For all quarterbacks with 2000 or more pass attempts in the first four years of their career, Dak is ranked #! in NFL history for passer rating and pass completion percentage, #2 in average yards per attempt, #3 in wins, #2 in lowest INT%, and #1 in rushing TD's.
I'm talking about the most productive quarterbacks in history. They include Dan Marino, Peyton Manning , Drew Bledsoe, Carson Palmer, Andrew Luck, Matt Ryan.
Half of them were drafted #1 overall. Two thirds of them were drafted in the top ten. Only three were not #1 draft choices and two of those guys were drafted in the top 4 of the 2nd round. Dak Prescott is the only one not drafted in the 1st round or the very top of the 2nd round.
The best of the best when it comes to QB's in their first four years in the league....and Dak's name is at the very top of that list.
The very first thing he did when he entered the league was break the NFL record for pass attempts before first INT, the previous record set by Tom Brady.
He hasn't missed a single game as a starter since the day he first wore a Cowboy uniform. Four seasons, 64 starts. He is one of only 6 QB's in NFL history to achieve that.
In NFL history, there have been 37 quarterbacks that threw 100 or more passes during the postseason in their first 4 years......the playoffs.
Troy Aikman is ranked #1. Patrick Mahomes is ranked #2. Dak Prescott is ranked #5.
In the divisional round of the playoffs during his rookie year, Dak led the Cowboys from an 18 point deficit to a tie ballgame with 35 seconds left on the clock. It took a defensive breakdown combined with a legendary pass by a future Hall of Famer to prevent Dak from leading the Cowboys to their first NFC championship game in over 20 years.
In his next playoff game, against Seattle in 2018, the Cowboys entered the 4th quarter down by 4. He took them down the field for the first TD to go up by three. With seven minutes left in the game and up by only three, he bled the clock while methodically going down the field until the Cowboys were faced with a 3rd and 14. A field goal would have put the Cowboys up by 6, Maher had already missed one field goal. In any case, the ball would go back to Russell Wilson and the Seahawks with over two minutes left.
What came next was one of the gutsiest plays by a quarterback in Cowboy history. On 3rd and 14 Dak ran the ball...and made the 1st down. The next play he ran it in and the Cowboys were up by 10....leadership....balls of steel...at the most critical point of an elimination game.
What was the question?......Will he start?......In a world......
Dak Prescott has no leverage?
If worse comes to worse and the Cowboys start Dalton....it will be the best leverage Dak could ever dream of.
I leave with you the quotes that best personify Jerry Jones's expertise when it comes to evaluating quarterback talent in the NFL. Keep them in mind as Jerry continues to describe his opinions on the current QB situation.
“We were very fortunate that Matt Cassel was available to us when Tony went down.”
"I'm still so damn mad at Stephen. I get madder, every day, about missin' Manziel"
"I have to be a realist. I hadn't thought or hoped that we'd be sitting here after the sixth game making these adjustments. … I did not want to this year go to an inexperienced quarterback (Tony Romo). I wanted to have the benefit of Drew Bledsoe. It hasn't worked out as of today. It just hasn't worked out. That to me is a step back."
