When he was a rookie we had him playing the Mike. Then our coaches got cute and decided to use him on the outside.

Just to show that coaching does matter. Ten years of Garrett's lack of football IQ has really torn this team apart. Glad that moron of a coach is gone.

Starts at about 1:22, good insight on the injury too.

Quick Highlights:

-100% healthy and in the best lower body shape he’s ever been. Fully ready for camp at 250lbs with no restrictions or lingering things to monitor.

-Spent last season “trying to tackle with one arm”. Neck stinger caused stiffness and made it hard to move neck. Made it difficult be himself.

-Will be the Mike LB in new role.

-Mentioned the Saints game in terms of how his role will look. Less sideline to sideline use and more running through gaps in the front 7 to make plays. Will be relying more on McCoy and Poe to occupy blockers to let him be free to get downhill and make plays.

I’m liking it.
Man this sucks. First I had to send my Lamb #10 jersey back and get a Lamb #88 jersey now I have to send my Lamb #88 jersey back and get a Vander Esch #55 jersey....

So Janey woke up from her stupor from the draft.

Good for her.

Did her lip injection swelling fnally go down?

She did one camera interview after the draft and she looked like somebody hit her in the mouth in a bar fight.

Them colligan injections can be a stinker.

LVE is either going to kick *** or chew bubble gum. He's all out of chewing gum.

Hope some get the reference.

It's howling time again.

Is that what's wrong with her lips? I'm usually not that guy, but I had a hard time not focusing in on her lips.

Yep.

If he’s healthy and our Mike. Sky’s the limit. He’s perfect for the position

I actually like him at Will better so he is free to roam more. But he has Urlacher size, I posted this at the time but the first time I saw him in Training Camp he rotated in at Mike and when I looked out, my first reaction was "Why did they put a DE at the Mike? Oh wait, that's LVE".

He versatile to play all three positions. If I had to go with someone Mlb on our team it would still be lve. I think he’s best option. But I think In Nolan defense we’ll see a lot of different looks

It's hard to understand. LVE was essentially a Brian Urlacher starter kit and belonged at MLB from the start. Smith is a fly to the football linebacker and belonged at an outside spot, either at SLB to run with tight ends and blitz or WLB to be protected more and use his speed to shoot upfield untouched to attack the run. Then there's Sean Lee, who he tried to turn into a strongside linebacker last year until LVE couldn't go.

In the Marinelli defense, especially in Nickel, there was not a big difference in MLB and WLB.
- The WLB had more coverage duties and LVE was better in coverage.
- There were multiple problems with Marineili's defense, but this was not really one of them.

In the Mike Nolan defenses of the past there is a big different in OLB and MLB.
- The OLBs have some off-ball and some on-ball (3-4 OLB) type duties.
- The MLB is an off-ball LB.
- Both concepts fit LVE and Jaylon.

We all saw what happened with relying upon the lightweight DTs in the Marinelli defensive scheme. LVE got pummeled enough to hurt his neck for much of the season. With Poe and McCoy tending the middle at DT, he shouldn't be exposed to as much punishment this year. Hopefully, it'll allow him to remain healthy for the entire season without undue damage. Evidently, it took a new staff to do what most of us already knew was far from ideal.

Neck issues tend to linger and are more prone to reoccurrences than most other injuries. Just ask Ware, Tyron, or Moose.

LVE may be in great shape now, but one awkward-angled hit could change that. Sad

Personally, I think Smith's best position is strongside linebacker. Maximize his physicality and speed by having him moving forward as much as possible rather than backwards.

I though Sean Lee played his best last year at weakside when LVE was out.

I've said that I thought there really were two glaring problems with last season's linebacker play compared to the previous season.

(1)...that the DTs weren't as effective in keeping the O-linemen off of our LBs... and...

(2)... there had to be something wrong with LVE that we weren't hearing about.

For the most part, he was indeed not himself.
Plus, I didn't like the repositioning of the LBs - they didn't go with what had worked the previous year.

I've thought LVE at Mike and Jaylon at Will was always the best setup. I'm glad we'll get to see it finally. The hell was Marinelli doing? How much of this defense was out of position?

That's why you're not a DC. Everyone would be expecting you to play your players exactly where they need to be. But if you play all your players out of position, the only other thing you'd need to do to have the other team really scratching their heads is to telegraph exactly what you're going to do.

Genius.
