Well there you go, you pretty much just nailed it right there.

You can have a rookie on cheap money all you want, but if you don't handle the salary cap well or if you don't have the team around the QB it doenst matter.

Nothing really matters if you don't do all the other things well. Having a cheap QB means little.

However, this is why I am so against paying any RB 15 million dollars. Dumb way to spend the money when you are trying to build a SB team.

Dont get me started on Zeke, holding out and going down to Cabo until the team paid his demands still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

And you are right, paying RBs top dollar is not a smart move. The Rams learned the hard way and the Titans franchised Henry because they dont think he is worth a long term deal either. RBs are too much plug and play now days. Only way a RB is worth that type of coin is if they are just as good as a WR, like the McCafferty kid in Carolina.

Being cheap and being wise are not mutually exclusive. Stephen is parsimonious and wise. Ask zeke and cook and tank if they think he's cheap.

We know he's cheap, wise is TBD.

Yeah this is true. I'm just hoping it had a lot to do with the coaching staff I hated since 2013. But the Zeke contract isn't that bad. It doesn't start until 2021. He was still playing on the 4th year of his rookie deal in 2019 plus signing bonus. This year his cap hit is what it would be on the 5th year option plus part of the signing bonus. It's really just 2021 and 2022 when his contract actually goes into effect. Cap hit of 13.7 and 16.5. Dallas can release him after that.

Ok...…………..As long as we can pay everyone for those two years. Still don't like it, but nice insight into that contract.

McCarthy is pretty much unstoppable. And they had a rookie QB, and virtually no weapons outside of him. Yet he still got his nearly EVERY game.

I would still be hesitant to pay him THAT much, but he IS an example of a guy I would resign and pay him well.

Zeke, not so much.

Simple negotiation. They EAGER to sign him. RELUCTANT to give in to all his demands.

That's true. The main thing in contention at this point is the length of contract. The Cowboys want 5 years and Dak wants 4.

I saw yesterday where the Cowboys are willing to offer $35 mil and five years and Dak is still holding firm at four. Go figure.

I hope I am wrong. I'm all against paying most QB's top money.

Agreed on that but it's a sign of the times, obviously. Dak is steadfastly holding to a 4 year contract.

Reportedly, the Cowboys have already offered $35 mil and 5 years, while Dak holds firm at 4 years.

They have in the past, although, they haven't so far. I could see them offering less $$ than $35 mil for 4 years, however.

We'll see. Let's recall their latest offer was $35 mil for 5 years. Would Dak and his agent be willing to take less for 4 yrs?

That appears to be they tipping point. The number of years is, seemingly, more important than the amount of money.

EXACTLY!!!!

And neither will Dak as soon as the next guy signs.

This line of business has made guys like Dak Prescott not worth it.

The NFL has screwed up their QB market and now if you have a average QB he must be the highest paid QB in the league while the team around him suffers.

No thanks..

I’ll skip that and just draft another QB and keep the overall roster strong.

That's a possibility, although Dak might very well be tough to replace with someone better.

Could we get by as well with Andy Dalton until a better quarterback comes along? H-m-m.

We have a rock solid foundation on offense that allowed a rookie 4th round QB to prosper at one point..

Im not scared to draft again.

I’m also fine with going into a season with Andy Dalton.

Losing Dak is not like we are losing some difference maker at the QB position. We can find bus drivers.. We already did in Dalton.

Just checking but let's bear in mind that not everyone feels that way.

It means far more how the FO and McCarthy feels about it, though!

We should all learn much more when TC comes into consideration.

Guys like Dak? So who exactly is worth it?

Wilson? Rogers? What one or two guys? And I would argue that NONE of those guys are worth it.

And what is worth it to you? 32 million?

These QB's are way overpaid. Its dumb at this point. No fault of Dak.

But again.........I didnt hear ANY of you guys applaud Dak while he was on his rookie contract leading the team to the playoffs under Garrett. You wanted to cut him and move on then.

So because of that, your argument seems hollow now. Just another excuse to cut Dak or whatever it is you keep trying to do.

Drafting rookie QB's every 4 years isnt going to win us anything. IF you think it will then you are even more naive.
