Dak deserves to get paid. He's been giving the Cowboys a discount for the last four years...total of $4.7M. Meanwhile, Goff and Wentz have already made over $25+ million during their first four years - I'm not even including their guarantee contracts of over $100M+ they signed last year. It's time for him to get paid (not his fault the market is as high as it is).

No, he hasn't been giving them a discount. He was drafted in the 4th and played through his contract. They didn't owe him anything more.

Completely true.

He can be set for several generations down the road guaranteed.

Or bet that he can keep things up, avoid injury AND win....just so he can maybe cash in on an extra few million by being free than he would have anyway.

To me it all sounds like a greedy agent who doesnt care if he creates a bad guy amongst fans.

Joe is saying what many in the media and ex players want to say , Dak is not elite or top 5-7 material, nor has he done anything special . He want 1-6 against winning teams and missed many crucial plays . The 33+ million offer from the cowboys is already ridiculously high. The cowboys don't want the negative publicity and have given him a terrific offer given the situation . Dak is showing arrogance, lack of team spirit , and foolish entitlement. I still feel unfortunately that Jerry being too eager to win and avoid controversy , will end up caving . We will be stuck with a mediocre/good QB who will win some game but nothing more. Meanwhile the holes in the defense won't be corrected because we paid our selfish overrated QB so much. When face top notch teams , they will stop Zeke ( remember the colts, rams, patriots, saints, vikings , eagles etc games) and Dak will be put on the spot to beat these defenses with his arm. Well, we have seen him fold in such situations . I hope stephen and jerry hold steady on this one but i have a feeling we will all be disappointed.

He honored his contract. The cowboys rewarded him with a most generous offer which he's rejected.

Front office is not going to budge. Take it or leave it is their motto. They have all the leverage now with Dalton, who is capable of succeeding with this team.

Theisman shouldn't stick his nose in Cowboys business.
Amen. Since when has Joe Theismann’s opinion mattered in Dallas? The best memory I have of Joe is watching our defense trash his big mouth on Monday Football....while our fans sang to him on his birthday.

I would tell Joe Theismann to take a hike.

Out of the mouths of babes, and out of the mouths of the enemy will you find the truth. You never find truth within your own team you have to look outside. Haze I could tell you to take a hike and I would be wrong because all opinions matter, even those that aren't true. Remember when you want to hear the real truth to look in places you do not expect. That's where you often find it because it's without the in-house vested interest.

That is what I was thinking. He might be better than were he was drafted at. But part of being drafted high comes from hard work in high school and college impressing first the College scouts to get into the best football school possible and then the NFL scouts. That hard work translates into your first NFL Pay check. so there was no discount as you say.

Succeeding how? Playing elite in 4th quarters, like Dak showed? I'll take Dak over Dalton.

Here is the part that I don't understand. If Dak signs a five year deal the Cowboys are going to have to start negotiating with him again after year four. So what's the big difference between four years and five years?

I sometimes wonder if all the dialogue surrounding Dak's contract focuses attention on the absurdity of QB contracts. Perhaps, more importantly, does it alter the NFL's approach to these highly paid positions?

Say what you will about the "market" (and, I am a firm believer in market driven compensation), I would have advocated for a "farm team" approach to QBs in the new CBA. Something that might allow me to carry 3-4 developmental QB prospects on the team without affecting the total team roster or the practice squad numbers. Effectively, you would be developing a conveyor belt approach for the position.

Crazy, I know.
