A whole generation of Cowboys fans have no idea the Cowboys used to consistently contend. Their team, of course, hasn't reached the NFC Championship Game since 1995. That was the Cowboys' last Super Bowl season. In the past 24 seasons, only Dallas, Detroit and Washington have failed to reach the NFC Championship Game. Yet, the [more]

I'm morbidly curious how long the Cowboys could continue being mediocre and still command the highest ratings. Three straight 5-11 seasons under Campo didn't do it. A 34-32 record under Parcells didn't do it. Ten years of Garrett with nothing to show for it but two playoff wins didn't do it. Could they survive another decade of Garrett-ism?

People love to watch trainwrecks. Cowboys are popular as hell! loved and hated even more.

It's a big yes.

Saw an I interview on the Herd with the head of strategic and analytical planning for FOX.

He said the 4:25 game on Sunday is the spot to put your biggest draw. He said this year every week has a soon to be HOF QB or the Dallas Cowboys. He said Dallas is the biggest draw, by far.

I live in Jersey and I am able to see Dallas 12 times year on regular TV. The only time I don't see them is when they play at 1pm. This year they play 5 times at 1pm, but one of those weeks the NY teams are off, so I still might be able to see them 12 times.

I'm so ever that title. Fans who dislike us argue against that title as if Cowboy fans voted on it. I don't even want to be America's team. I was born into this. Cowboy are Americas team simply because they are. There's not a more polarizing team in the NFL and you could probably argue sports except Yankees might take that title.

It wouldn’t matter what the record is.

People either love Dallas or love to see Dallas lose. How does Stephen A Smith stay relevant? Hating Dallas.

If you ever venture onto some other message board or Facebook groups it’s a simple formula. Cheer for their team and to see Dallas lose lol

The Dallas Cowboys are America's team because they were nicknamed that, not because they won some kind of title. It is not a yearly award like MVP or ROY.

It would be trivial if the nickname was created internally and meaning would be different if they were called by that nickname instead.

Someone ELSE nicknamed the team.

The nickname has stuck.

Therefore, The Dallas Cowboys are synonymous with "America's Team". That's all there is to it.

I love the title BECAUSE opposing fans hate it so much.

Ratings don’t lie. America loves watching the Cowboys more than any other sports team.

That's kind of a foolish question. Nick names are something that go with a team regardless. Names like America's Team will always be the Cowboys nickname. Even when there was a 30 year time span between the packers winning a championship they were still called title town. The steelers will always be called the steel city. There have been games that were played in colder weather since the ice bowl but that is still called the ice bowl. There have been bigger comebacks but the titan/bills game is still called the music city miracle. When Steve Sabol coined that name and it was picked up by the media it became the Cowboys nick name. Nick names don't change from team to team or games to games.

I just want to be under the radar and play games at 12 every Sunday. I'd be good with it lol.
Not me. I like being THAT team, the one that all the fans of inferior dog**** teams hate with a passion because their jealousy runs sooooo deep.

Put us on at prime-time every week so we can soak up the maximum hate.

Well I'd be fine if we were winning. But being 8-8 and underachieving........I'd rather do it on a smaller scale.
