I think he wanted to win more than a lot of other dudes on the field showed last year.

But it ended there. He was an offsides penalty waiting to happen.

Let's go with this....if Smith and Gregory come back, theres no need for Bennett. If they dont, they need to grab either Griffen or Clowney on the cheap.

What exactly is Roger up to that he cant make a decision on those two anyway?

Still defending Garrett?

LOL

You were wrong then, wrong now.

I don’t follow connection between Bennet and Jason Garrett.

Regardless, what I actually said about Jason Garrett was clearly and demonstrably right. I’m not responsible for how those posts might be mischaracterized by idiots or people trying to score points who can’t do it with evidence.

As for Bennett, if you want to believe he’s a better fit or value than the guys we signed in VFA or drafted instead, knock yourself out. He’s not, though.

I am on board with this.

I think they need a proven DE at the spot opposite Lawrence. Bennett, Griffen, even Golden.

Ummm, at this point, yes, Bennett is probably better than a 5th round pick and a guy in Smith that hasn't played football in over 4 years for the 2020 season.

And he'd probably be really good value as he's likely just looking at short term, small contracts to ride out his career given his age.

I don't get this. Even if Smith and Gregory come back there is little guarantee either is going to be able to play well given they have been out of football for over a year (in Smith's case, it's been over 4 years).

It's bizarre to me that there are a ton of people acting like Smith not having played in a game since Nov 2015 is really not a big deal or a concern.

Why wouldn't you sign him? There's zero certainty with anyone on the roster.
Lawrence and Crawford are at this point the frontrunners for starter. You ready to hitch your wagon for the long haul with that? Because after those 2 guys, there's no guarantee. I think a lot of fans are blinded by the idea we are fine. We're not fine.

He’s not looking for a small contract, Sydla. Certainly not for the $2M plus incentives deal Smith signed.

I don’t even agree he’s likely to be a better player, much less a better value. Aldon Smith was an elite player. He’s 4 years younger and has 8 years fewer miles on him.

Michael Bennett is much better than Ty Crawford.

The Mike Nolan defenses of the past have many many similarities to the defense that Belichick ran in 2019.

Both Bennett and Bellichick decided that the 2019 Pats defense was not suited to Bennett.

No thanks. He can take his tiny shoulder pads and idiotic offsides penalties somewhere else.

Side Note: I noticed a player in this past draft that had small shoulder pads. I can't remember which player at the moment but it will come to me.

Edit: It is Cowboys UDFA Garrett Marino. He wears small shoulder pads and a Jersey that is a few sizes too small...

I guess you'd rather have always injured Crawford instead of the 74th best player in the NFL?
It's not about liking Crawford better. I'm not a huge fan of his either. I just don't want to re-sign Bennett. I don't think he's very good anymore, and his penalties from lining up offsides were super annoying.

It's interesting. There are a number of good pass rushers left in FA.
I think we make a move after we get word on the Gregory/Smith decisions.
Any idea of a time line on those decisions?
Seem like with draft over he could get busy with making his ruling
It’s not like he’s all that busy lol

Both Bennett and Bellichick decided that the 2019 Pats defense was not suited to Bennett.

Bennett is a 3× Pro Bowler and had 9 sacks backing up Gerald McCoy at 3 tech with TB. He has excelled at EDGE as well as DT.

Bennett also had as many sacks as Tank Lawrence as rotation player last season.

Bennett and Belichick had "philosophical differences" that had less to do with defensive scheme than with personality.

Crawford will never sniff a pro bowl or more than 5 sacks/season going forward.
