I don’t get the desire to put Pollard and Zeke on the field. It’s just gonna load up the box and if Pollard flexes our into slot he’s not going to cause a safety too much trouble because his route running isn’t all that threatening.

Not sure why everyone acts like X.Woods is garbage lol. He’s already proven to be a league average FS, he graded out at a 73 on PFF last year. Puts him right in the middle league-wide.

He may never be anything more than average, but acting like he’s trash is off-base. Has definitely exceeded what you’d expect from a 6th rounder, as you rarely get league average starters at that position.

i dunno what you define as trash or garbage as i would think that would be someone many are lobbying to cut and get rid of (such as the Jeff Heath haters)
Woods was a INT machine at small Louisana Tech but at the end of his 3rd year it hasn't yet materialized for him at the NFL level.
i'm not hearing the vibes that he is a budding star waiting in the wings. Hes been just serviceable at this point. And serviceable/decent doesnt get him a
2nd contract and long term investment here as a starter.

i think he has the hands and instincts to be a better play maker but for whatever reason he's not always in the best position to make the play and
his tackling is too inconsistent, hes the smallest "listed" 200 lbs DB, i've ever seen. and he tackles like he's a 180 pound lightweight and he'll get
bowled over by backs and running QBs, does he wear down as season goes on ? the good thing is he can handle man coverage on most parts.
and i thought playing more center field would have helped him.

He's been average - and i think the Cowboys were hoping for far more than average. And they will move on from in free agency, if Xavier remains just
average.

My pick is Conner McGovern.

From your list -

Woods, Awuzie and Lewis all improve a lot in the new scheme.

Dorance Armstrong is still a strong backup but not a breakout guy.

Jarwin is the same player but way more productive in the new scheme, he still doesn't block but Kellen Moore covers for it more.

Conner Williams improves and starts, he actually broke out last year to be a solid player but most fans didn't notice.

Pollard is an even better version of last year.

Trysten Hill breaks out of the doghouse and looks like a reasonable backup with above average physical skills. You heard it here first.

Don’t get calling C.williams a bust. He has started for two years other than missing time to injury. He’s look down upon cause he isn’t the monster everyone else in the line is but he is a capable player.
That he is - capable of causing a huge play to get called back because he sucked doing his job. NFL DT’s make him their b***h.

In watching Wilson's college games, I thought he was really good on the hash, then he showed he can play single high in preseason. On top of that, his work close to the LOS was solid as well. Due to my observations I thought he was best suited for FS, but with Cover 4 scheme Nolan is said to be implementing Wilson could do really well. It's just hard to see him stealing snaps from Woods or HaHa tho.

If he can show he is a strong tackler, might have a chance to steal some playing time as our starters are extremely weak in that area.

You're taking someone off the field. Zeke, Cooper, Gallup, Lamb or a TE. I suppose they could line up in 20 more often, but I don't expect to see a ton more snaps for Pollard as long as Zeke and the receivers are healthy. Of course, there are likely to be some games where one of those other 4 guys is out or limited.

Nice problem to have, though.

I would take off Jarwin if that's the case, he isn't an inline blocker more of a oversized WR. Pollard is a dual threat as a runner and as a receiver, both on the field could cause several mismatches

My breakout player is Awuzie. I believe the new staff uses him in many different spots where he plays more to his strengths.

Yeah I mean why a team or fans would hope for far more than average for a 6th round pick escapes me. He’s a serviceable/average starter, that’s more than anyone should have hoped.

To contextualize it for Woods though, he did have a higher grade than his draft slot warranted, and did prove to be a reliable interceptor of the ball in school. This year specifically he dropped two easy tipped passes, and would’ve had gaudier stats had he made those plays. He’s never been consistently coached in one role (played a bunch of slot CB his rookie year), and his last two years with the same scheme saw a steep deterioration in overall team defense.

Again I think Woods is an average FS who with better luck and a scheme click could become an above average starter to borderline pro-bowl player. If he doesn’t take that next step this year though, he’s definitely not getting a max deal or anything. Still could be brought back ala Anthony Brown if the price is right.

I'd love to extend him right now at a Brown money deal.

Woods will never be good. He is an undersized, under skilled 6th rounder.

Chido thinks he is special. He has terrible technique and zero dawg in him.

I like Lewis and agree. I think he is the best CB on the team and will prove it this year.

Armstrong might not even be a JAG. If Gregory and Smith come back I think he will barely get on the field. He has shown nothing.

I think Jarwin has a real chance to shine. Guy must improve his blocking.

Williams will finish his trip to bust status. I just don’t think he can play in this league. He will have competition and his job is not secure.

I like Pollard a lot. I hope he gets more touches. I would like McCarthy to bring screens back to Dallas and see Pollard get a bunch of them.

I will add one more...LVE. He has the talent. Is he Hollywood like the other knucklehead or does he have the nastiness to be a NFL LB? We will find out this season.
LOL. LVE has already proven that he can not only play, but he can be a Pro Bowler. The question is, can he overcome the neck injury and return to form.

My break out player of the year strangely enough is Amari Cooper. No more disappearing on the road. I'm expecting 1,500 yards and 11 TD's. Especially if they line him up in the slot more.
In no universe can Cooper be in the running for breakout player. He’s been by far our best receiver since arriving a year and a half ago. All he needs to do is become more consistent and not disappear every now and then. Battling nagging injuries all last year didn’t help. But, he’s been extremely productive overall.

Dark horse break out candidate: Donovan Wilson

I sooo like this dude. What his pre-season highlights. He makes you jump out of your seat with excitement. Going up way up in the air to intercept a long pass to the left sideline and landing in bounds was spectacular. The guy is athletic, has a lot of courage, and has the makings of an electric play-maker. Donovan Wilson is my sleeper star in the secondary. I think this coaching staff will like this player's moxie and get him into the mix during regular season.

He wasn't used enough on defense last season, probably miss-used by a clueless coach. I don't think he was injured for any long stretch.

I half agree. Great rookie year but he was a scrub last season. Talent is not the question. The injury history is plus he was very much into being the Wolf Hunter. I think he bought into his press clippings. We will know this year which player he is.
