For me, it's TE.

I agree, I like Jarwin but sometime players break down when they move from spot duty to full time reps. I called it the "Marion Barber III syndrome", a guy looks great as a backup but completely different when going against fresh starters full time.

I do think he will have a big year but Schultz has done nothing so far. DE and Safety would be the other spots but those have a bunch of candidates to fill the spot.

The problem with our safety position is alot like the Devil, the biggest trick is making you believe it doesn't exist.

1. Quarterback. So much investment in the offense, any QB being paid circa $35 million a season has to make up for defensive deficiencies...namely

2. Secondary

3. Defensive End

2. and 3. wouldn't be an issue if paying a QB on a rookie or Vet contract.

I'm still watching players like Jackson and the 'rook - types' ...and keeping the faith.
Im excited to see what Joe Jackson does under Tomsula.
He def has the size and strength to be a player in this league.
the competition for the DE group will be a good one to watch.

Not a big gap between Dak and Dalton so I'm cool with either one. The biggest concern is at the safety position, we still don't have a center fielder out there that can play the ball in the air with consistency.

For me, it's TE.

First, because while Jarwin's receiving has been everything anyone could have hoped to see develop back-when (iirc) he was given the largest signing bonus in his class of undrafted free agents. But that, on its own, doesn't qualify a player to be a starting TE. It's admittedly a very anecdotal measure, but the fact that I've never watched a Cowboys game these last two years that he's been getting playing time, and heard him praised for a single block, but otoh, have heard him called out for missing a block... that makes me nervous.

Of course, there's a legit argument that if Jay Novacek could get it done, Jarwin is an inch taller and a few pounds heavier, it's legit to think Jarwin can, too.

Second, I can't say I know much about Bell, but what I've read leads me to think, as well as the fact that both Jacksonville and KC considered him not worth bringing back, he's not a #2 who could threaten to push for #1, but rather a #2 who could threaten to push for #3. Schultz, of course, has moved no needle yet, and his roster spot could be under serious assault once training camp cuts are made.

In sum, my perception is that Jarwin has been occupying his rightful role this last year or two, and still should be doing the same for 2020. He's that extra receiving situational TE you bring in, not the one you want as your primary, every-down TE. Bell is okay, as long as you have someone else on the depth chart who is, at least, his equal. We don't. So, I'm one of those who will be especially interested to see how our undrafted free agents out of Michigan and Portland State perform in preseason, and will be watching in the meantime to see if some new opportunity springs up from cuts off the Bears or Bucs rosters.

The "lack of depth" at TE makes me hopeful. Maybe we don't plan on using a lot of TE. There are other players I've wanted to see used more.

Base offense should be Zeke, Cooper, Gallup, Lamb, +1.

That +1 could be Pollard, Olawale, Devin Smith, or Jarwin. The first four bring a lot more speed and elusiveness than Jarwin. I'm hoping we get some real innovation and variety on offense, and it has to come at the +1, and I think we've got the +1 players to really make it interesting.

I would *love* a base offense of Zeke, Cooper, Gallup, Lamb, +Pollard.

Swing Tackle- Cam Erving is garbage
Safety- Who is going to tackle, and who is our 3rd S who will see major playing time?
TE- If Jarwin gets hurt we are screwed, if Jarwin isnt as effective in a larger roll we are screwed
RDE- A whole lots questions with no answers yet
Outside CB- Slot is locked down

A lot of these could easily be answered right now via FA or trade.

If I had to pick one give me safety

Swing T - yeah, Erving looks like garbage to me too. Knight was ok at RT. Best outcome is Biadasz and McGovern start at C and LG, and Williams goes to swing G/T. We'd be in great shape across the oline then.

I think we're fine at S. We lost Heath, added Dix and looks like Awuzie, and Wilson now has a year of experience.

RDE - we'll know on Gregory or Smith soon. I'm not gonna sweat it til them. I doubt they will either. Gregory is our starting RDE if he's reinstated.

RDE

We know NOTHING about what kind of players Gregory or Aldon Smith will be nor when they'll even be available to show us. They're late season hopes, IMO so plugging up that hole with a vet would make me more comfortable.

We started Gregory from practically a 2 year layoff in 2018. Now he has that year of full time experience *and* has only missed 1 season.

Does that mean he automatically comes back and is effective? He's been out of football more than he's been in. Not dependable from where I sit. I'd rather have someone else start the year.

The lesson of Vanderjagt is that there are no automatics. Totally reasonable to doubt, but it's a better chance than when Gregory came back in 2018, and that turned out ok. Back half of the season he was pretty good as our #2DE.

A lot that's up in the air now will land in a couple of weeks. We could end up with more DEs than we know what to do with.

DLaw, Gregory, Smith, Crawford, Armstrong, Jackson, Anae, Jelks(?). They can't all stay.

The run game isn't going to lose it's effectiveness going from Witten to Jarwin.

That's the thing about Jarwin that is being missed by some. The same abilities that make him a receiving threat (agility, speed, and quickness) make him a good seal blocker. He can't over power a guy and bull him off the line of scrimmage. But he can beat him to a spot and seal him off.

Depends how you look at it:

The worst starter is probably Center.
The worst cover is one of OT, WR & TE
The weakest “money” position is CB1 or RDE
The most likely to be tested is LB
The biggest unknown is RDE
The worst part time player is either TE2 or WR4

I do think flipping a 5-7th round pick for a WR4 or TE3 has the potential to have the greatest bang for buck. And you can maybe add LB as well.

Safety, just watched the 93 NFC Championship game and Woodson is SUCH A BEAST!!! I can't think of how this team could be improved more than by the addition of a true STUD safety
