Jarwin should be a big upgrade over 2019 Witten

LOL, Still a better blocker than any TE the Cowboys currently have... especially Jarwin who doesn't know how to block at all. I'm sure the new coaching staff will work with Jarwin on this so let's all hope he gets better.
Jarwin could fall down and block no one and still be twice as good as Witten.

No doubt Witten slipped a step the past few seasons but you want to claim Schultz could put up similar numbers? LOL Don't back off that wager. I want your money, put it where your mouth is.

What are failing to compute Joe?

I said if Schultz was giving the same amount of snaps he could put up the same paltry numbers as Witten.

He has actually used a FB a lot in his coaching career. Everybody has this idea that he runs a lot of 2TE or uses a lot of TE in his offense but he really doesn't. We'll see what the Offense looks like this year.

That's the question: What it will look like this year. If he adapts the scheme to his personnel, it could be that he'll feel the better option is more of Jarwin in a fourth receiver/downfield blocker setup or possibly three receivers and a fullback or blocking tight end or three receivers and two backs with Pollard out there with Elliott.

About the only thing I'm sure of is after drafting Lamb we're going to see three receivers out there quite a bit.

An undrafted free agent will typically be a project with little productivity until his 3rd or 4th season.

Jarwin's contract suggests that the Cowboys believe their investment is about to pay off big. Their lack of interest in Witten seems to confirm this. Not that he isn't already producing.

Last season 36 TE's caught 30 or more passes. The Cowboys are 1 of 8 teams with two TE's on the list meaning that Jarwin caught more passes than at least 6 other team's starters. in addition, he was ranked 12th on that ;list in average yards per reception. He has great range. Witten, by the way, was ranked 2nd to last in the group.

Witten and Jarwin ranked 10th and 11th respectively in catch percentage.

Blake Jarwin is reliable and productive when he gets the opportunity.

He isn't the same type of TE that Witten was, if I were to compare him to any other former TE it would be Jay Novacek. Jay was unproductive for the Cardinals who tried to use him in the traditional way. Novacek was extremely athletic and he was used primarily as a receiver. in fact, his value came on 3rd downs when Aikman needed a safety valve. Novacek delivered.

Jarwin won't set records for durability and may be somewhat of a liability on running plays for now but he is 6'5, 260 pounds but I think he will prove instrumental in moving the chains during difficult circumstances.

I don't buy into the bull that Jarwin can't block. It's just one of those reasons that Garrett tends to make up for making sure we stick with the status quo.

Jarwin can become an effective blocker once he is properly trained to. Kittle in SF wasn't known for his prolific block when he started in the league. Now I think he's one of the best block TEs in the game. All because of coaching.

Garrett was either not a good as a coach or was too lazy to train anyone how to block. I think it was both. Thus we are feeling the after shock of Garrett's incompetence.

Here in NY I seen Evan Engram improve greatly as a run blocker. When he started as a rookie, was a major liability as a blocker. It's a skill set that can be learned with proper coaching. By the way, Engram's TE Coach was hired by the Cowboys for the same position.

So Jarwin did absolutely nothing. Break on thru Jarwin. lol.
nope hes barely showing up on stat lines, having upside is great but at some point you get a last shot and this is his..No more Jwitt, garett, scottL to blame..it will be funny when Bell all of a sudden outshines Jarwin..some guys are just slotted as lifetime backups and do well in flashes and to me Jarwin is that guy.. hes not been held back, great players force their way into more snaps with the limited time thay have they show coaches why they should be used more..

no effn excuses!

sick of the backup syndrome around here, everyone is being stunted and held back by bad coaching SMH..Jwitt would have never been brought back is Jarwin had truly showed coaches in practice and games he was a #1..at this point the staff knew last season and most likely this season TE is not a Primary target, we have a solid group of WRs who even last year WR3 in Cobb made up for a lack of star power at TE.. this season with Ceedee added , im betting MM and KM will be using Zeke and Pollard more in the pass game then TE in designed plays.

TE is part of the pass game but if you have better talent elsewhere , you go there and right now the DC realize that Jarwin is 5/6th on the list as primary targets .. AC, Gallup, CeeDEE, Zeke, Pollard , then Jarwin..they didnt use Zeke and pollard in the pass game properly last season and I suspect they get more targets, so Jarwin better not just be better, he beter be Great to get enough targets to show hes a TE1..I have my doubts

He did nothing in spot duty, lol?

He had 69% of Witten’s production (yardage) on apx. just half of the snaps comparably (845 snaps vs. 434).

Not to mention averaged 11.8 YPC to Witten’s 8.4 YPC.

Dumbest fanbase in sports, smh.
LMAO like the guy of the bench in basketball who averages a better shot% because of limited play against guy who lay 45mins you are blind.. his YOC avg would be after down as a primary target.. he has done NOTHING so far in the NFL..

We could have plucked a lot of guys off the street and had them be upgrades over Witten the past few years, he's the posterchild for what's wrong with our front office.
why so much hate? I don't get it. cowboys tried to replace him, by drafting several TEs, none of them worked out. Jarwin was an UDFA, needed some seasoning and experience....he was 14th in catches for TEs...meaning there was at least 18 other TEs that were less than him...8th in total catches, although his YPC average was low.....but he was 10th in targets, meaning that the QB saw him as open and an he caught 75% of what was thrown at him....the comment about plucking anyone off the street, is just plain stupid. .

No, you actually said, "if he was given the same opportunity". They will have competition at the TE position in training camp. If Schultz can't earn those snaps "with the same opportunity" then it would seem you're wrong about him.

I agree, We saw what he was capable of doing in the Giant Finale game 2 yrs ago, believe he had over 100 yards and 3 TD's.
That is all he has to his resume. Great guy to sneak in there when he is like the 8th option. I think people will be disappointed, his stats will go up but expecting anything remarkable is setting up for disappointment.

Upgrade at what? Jarwin has never shown the ability to block anything. I always appreciated that about Witten, his blocking was often a key one to set up his RB for a good run. Having a blocking TE to count on will be missed. Sure Jarwin gets more YAC when he catches the ball but we have a great group of WRs that can do that. I just don't see this great upgrade at TE amounting to much of an advantage over previous seasons.

That’s not how that works brainiac, loool.

Nearly 3/4 of Witten’s production in half the snaps.

Go become a Raiders fan so you can watch the Jason Quitten dominate the league with his gaudy 8.4 YPC.

No, the point was a middling talent like Schultz could probably put up the same paltry numbers Witten did last year if given the same reps that you think is irreplaceable, lol.

That’s not speaking to Schultz’s ability but rather the declining play of Witten.

Like I said, stop thinking we’re losing Witten circa 2009.

Quite honestly it was hard to watch Jason Witten last season. He didn't belong on the field in any aspect. The offense should dramatically improve with him now in Las Vegas:

-Opposing teams didn't fear Witten what so ever. They knew he could no longer beat teams up the seam, getting any kind of yards after the catch and more of a liability as an inline blocker.

-Jarwin maybe never become an asset as a inline blocker at the position, but has legitimate receiving skills that opposing defenses must account for. He is going to see the most favorable match-ups within the entire offense and should finally breakout this season with more opportunities. We saw a glimpse of what he can do in a larger role during the season finale two years ago against the Giants.
I agree.

I was tricked again by the ineptitude of Garrett. He said he wouldn't hog all of the snaps and he did just that. Totally hamstrung out passing attack.

I am very happy they let him walk, even though the guy is a Cowboy for life and I love him. It is time...

If Jason Witten wasn't named Jason Witten last year he would have been known as a solid contributor on the team. His name and his HOF worthy career are working against him as he ages. With his name recognition everything thinks 1000+ yards and 8 TD's. Then they go, well he's getting up there in age so 800 yards and 6 TD's..... It's just not realistic. Add to that Zeke, Cooper and Gallup. He's not the first option in the offense, shouldn't even be the second, but he was a solid option and contributor. There wasn't going to be some huge stats line. He shouldn't have played as much as he did last year but that's on the coaching staff. When you look at his stats and all the intangibles, professionalism and leadership he brought to the team he unquestionably should have been on the roster. His blocking isn't what it once was but it's above average for a position where a lot of teams just run out a somewhat fast 6'5" guy who can't block at all. I believe he was the best TE on the team, if he wasn't he was at the very least the 2nd best. He was definitely worthy of a spot on the roster, some of the talk here is crazy.

Should have used BJ during the Rams playoff game. After all, he was just coming off 3 TD's vs the Giants.
