Romo would've still choked in the big game. Payton wouldn't have the Superbowl on his resume as a result.

Jerrys hiring of Phillips and Garrett after Parcells was just another horrendous decision. Even if it wasn't Payton, a definite blow to the organization. Wasted quality players on some hairbrained experiment. That was no doubt a blow that would last a very long time.

I wonder if Phillips would’ve done better if Jerry had let him hire his own OC instead of tweetle dee.

Our offensive playcalling and in game management was atrocious.

I have no doubt, it was that ridiculous setup. HC/DC, assistant HC/OC. Another Jerry brain fart that set this team back. Not only that but hiring Garret first was the kicker. Phillip's hands were tied from day 1. Then it took 13 years to finally be rid of him? lol
