I’ll go the entire secondary...

Looking like we might have two rookie corners Being our starting duo on the boundary...

a transitioned corner to safety in Chido or a journeyman whose a draft bust in HaHa

I just don’t feel comfortable about it until I see them get tested under fire and perform...

This secondary can lose us multiple games

Weak-side defensive end is probably my greatest concern, right now. I think there are potential fits to fill that role on the roster, but not having a dedicated pass rusher (that we know of) at this point is definitely the biggest weakness. The quarterback situation is going to work itself out. If they hadn't signed Dalton, that would be a bigger concern for me. I am happy and pleasantly surprised by the talent that's been acquired along the offensive line. I think that is once again one of, if not the strongest position group on the team. Tightend definitely deserves some attention, but MM has always used his tight ends in much more of a receiving capacity and I think Jarwin will excel in that role.

I think this is one of the deepest rosters the Cowboys have had since the salary cap era begin. They're loaded at the top with elite talent at skill positions, but also have a lot of talented youth that could come on and push the veterans.

TE and SS.

Tight End. I think Jarwin is okay in 12 personnel. It means against Zones, he can run the skinny TE seam route, and as a former WR, he's a tough match-up there and almost any Zone coverage is susceptible to that weakside skinny post or seam route. Against Man, he usually drew the defense's 5th best coverage guy, again, a win for him. As TE1, he'll draw more attention and don't even get me started on his blocking.

Strong Safety. I think Xavier Woods is a liability here. In any fundamental defense, the Strong Safety has run responsibility (the "C gap") and I've watched Woods duck contact in run support for 3 years. I think it's a bad match of responsibility and talent. This changes if Chido Awuzie embraces a position change.

CB

In that order. There are a LOT of "potential answers" to these positions, but there remain big questions.

RDE by far. Need to get Smith and Gregory reinstated and hope they can apply pressure. My other concerns are less pressing now, but mostly revolve around depth at TE and swing tackle.

Swing Tackle- Cam Erving is garbage
Safety- Who is going to tackle, and who is our 3rd S who will see major playing time?
TE- If Jarwin gets hurt we are screwed, if Jarwin isnt as effective in a larger roll we are screwed
RDE- A whole lots questions with no answers yet
Outside CB- Slot is locked down

A lot of these could easily be answered right now via FA or trade.

If I had to pick one give me safety

Safety is a long term need but Clinton-Dix and Woods should be decent starters. Neither is an all-pro at this point bit wouldn't say either is a major weakness. Feel like that position is a little better off than past year, though would be good to add a 3rd guy with experience for depth. Presume we go heavy at CB as some of the guys may have some safety flexibility.

For CB I'm not concerned here, Lewis, Awuzie, and Brown are competitive players and in a better system should make a jump. They don't need to be all-pros just grab some extra ints and play your assigments. Byron Jones was overrated covering the number 1 receiver only 1/3 of the time. We infused some talented players in the draft and added a few depth pieces in free agency. There will be tons of competition

Right DE - gotta have a much better every down starting pass rusher than average rush DE Crawford

Cornerback- until Diggs Worley or Robinson establish themselves in the lineup, i'd really prefer Awuzie until he's beaten out.

Safety - tackling may be an issue with Dix/Woods.Hoping Wllson emerges as starter at best- 3rd safety at least.

Tight End - should Jarwin get hurt, can Bell, Schultz or emerging rookie TEs prove serviceable as a pass catching threat ?

Depth at 1 tech- this is where Antuann Woods should be at least serviceable as a backup. if Poe injured, but he seems to get dinged often. and then it comes
down to Gallimore and Hill afterwards.

Fullback- i really want a much more physical blocking lead full back than finesse oriented Jamele Olawele - but they apparently like him as a special teams tackler.

punt returner - very highly likely to be Lamb as primary. Then maybe Diggs afterwards,.. otherwise there are no other available candidates -should Lamb get dinged.

4th WR - again should injury become one of the 3 WRs upfront, do we have good options as a true 4th WR ? Devin Smith ? surprise rookie or 2nd year player ?

Te 1
Te 2
This te core are Losers on paper as receivers. How soon we forget how much they sucked against teams not named the Giants. Its a no brainer. You got a starting receiver who is trash but hes given an everydown receiver te role he didnt earn and doesnt come off the field. Just go run n shoot now and use austin or Pollard in the slot cuz jarwin sucks. No winning history or stats just a bunch of hype

For me, it's TE.

First, because while Jarwin's receiving has been everything anyone could have hoped to see develop back-when (iirc) he was given the largest signing bonus in his class of undrafted free agents. But that, on its own, doesn't qualify a player to be a starting TE. It's admittedly a very anecdotal measure, but the fact that I've never watched a Cowboys game these last two years that he's been getting playing time, and heard him praised for a single block, but otoh, have heard him called out for missing a block... that makes me nervous.

Of course, there's a legit argument that if Jay Novacek could get it done, Jarwin is an inch taller and a few pounds heavier, it's legit to think Jarwin can, too.

Second, I can't say I know much about Bell, but what I've read leads me to think, as well as the fact that both Jacksonville and KC considered him not worth bringing back, he's not a #2 who could threaten to push for #1, but rather a #2 who could threaten to push for #3. Schultz, of course, has moved no needle yet, and his roster spot could be under serious assault once training camp cuts are made.

In sum, my perception is that Jarwin has been occupying his rightful role this last year or two, and still should be doing the same for 2020. He's that extra receiving situational TE you bring in, not the one you want as your primary, every-down TE. Bell is okay, as long as you have someone else on the depth chart who is, at least, his equal. We don't. So, I'm one of those who will be especially interested to see how our undrafted free agents out of Michigan and Portland State perform in preseason, and will be watching in the meantime to see if some new opportunity springs up from cuts off the Bears or Bucs rosters.

rde, p

WOW! Who knew all that was going on in GB. I used to hear that Rodgers was free lancing but didnt realize things were that bad. Read about half that article and I hate to say it but It didnt sound good for McCarthy either. He was the Garrett in GB. This part was disturbing.

Many believe Rodgers, the QB with the best career passer rating (103.1) in NFL history, was 100 percent justified in overruling his coach's play calls, and that the Packers would've deteriorated more precipitously if he hadn't put that cape on. The personnel man says the Packers' passing offense was essentially "Get open" and that they basically ran the same routes for seven years straight, to the point where division rivals "constantly" called out plays pre-snap and jumped routes.
