At 6'2 240 4.75 40, Charlie Taumoepeau is too small to play TE, may be better suited for FB or H-Back.

He has experience lining up in backfield, tight and in slot. If he can become ST demon he should be able to challenge Olawale for that FB spot. CT is already a better receiver and run after catch ability is not even close.

Problem is, Olawale is one of our better ST players. I trust Bones process to get the 11 on each unit he wants.

Im not a fan of keeping a guy at his salary for ST purposes. But at the end of the day, we have to trust Bones. Guy is an elite ST coach

He’ll be lucky not to be waived by the 2nd week of training camp

This was my original thought 5 seconds after reading his bio after it was announced he was signing with Dallas. It would be nice if one of UFA could take that FB spot and actually become a weapon, that is if the team will utilize it. Might be tough with all the other players needing their touches as well but I would love to have a bulldozer paving the way for Zeke and being a forgotten outlet for Dak. Not all the time but as a wrinkle to mix in, especially at the goal line.

I am surprised they signed him, yes certainly too small for TE. Heck convert him to LB, they need LB's. LOL.
FB would be an option, but Olawale will be the FB. He was not used correctly with the old staff. Maybe he will be with the new one.

Could be. Olawale is a converted wideout so you never can tell. The difference in them is speed, but if Taumoepeau can prove to be a better lead blocker and receiver out of the backfield, I don't think the job is cemented for Olawale.

I think the player to watch at fullback, though, is Sewo Olonilua. He can carry the ball and has good hands. The question with him will be the blocking, and his size (232 pounds may be a little light).

If Taumoepeau is tried at the spot, maybe we'll actually have a little competition for the role with the three of them.

He wont be a third TE, but I think he has a real chance to stick as an H back type, instead of maybe a 6th WR.

He has some versatility and some pass catching ability. I think its possible MM sees a role for him.

He will absolutely have to play ST though and that may be the difference against him.

He’s not too small. He was very productive. An excellent route runner and good after the catch. He can be a player in the passing game. The problem is that he is not a good blocker, which is why FB is not an option unless he can turn that part of his game on.

Until the pads are on and the hitting starts, all we have are bios. Just as boring as resumes.

Taumoepeau 's measurements and scout profile sounds similar to another undrafted H-Back like player who currently is slated to start a full season for us as a TE.
Jarwin is not really a TE either. He's more H-back than TE. That could sound like Taumoepeau as well.
NFL.com profile has him as a surprisingly adequate in-blocker despite his size.

I saw a roster projection that had him beat out Olawale but do not buy it.
I like the idea of his transition but I doubt this team trusts a TE out of Portland State to block in the backfield protecting their QB year 1.

I suspect he is a prime candidate for the PS and future FB/H-Back roles.

FB is determined by:
Blocking in backfield
ST
Hands

With a new staff I am guessing their will be some personnel surprises but this team wanted to keep as much of the offensive staff and success as possible. I'm expecting far more surprise cuts on defense.

I was hoping to sign Richie Worship as an UDFA. He's 6'0", 250 pounds, and has actually carried the football.

Fans keep saying this about him, along with CJ Goodwin, but where's any evidence of this actually being true?

Same nonsense we heard about Jeff Heath the last few years.

I think the position will be utilized more as a receiver in McCarthy's offense, but Olawale is actually a good receiver so that may work in his favor. Olawale's weakest area is run blocking, but that's understandable as a former receiver. So if one of the young players can step up and be a better lead blocker while providing similar receiving skills, I won't be surprised if there's a change. Olonilua's added bonus as a runner would be good to have as well so that teams actually have to be wary of the fullback dive.

Special teams is definitely high up there, and Olawale is a good special teams player.

He would likely clear waivers for the PS.

I think things will depend on how much MM wants to make use of an H back as opposed to a traditional FB, or both.

It may get too tight to have both, and I'd guess an MM offense would value the H Back more.

A spot like those two may very well end up being another teams cut at the end of camp and neither of these guys.

Kyle Juszczyk is 6'1" 240 and ran a 4.71. His athleticism and ability to catch the ball allows the 49ers offense so many possibilities. The 49ers counter run is so dangerous and a big part of that is Juszczyk's COD skills. The LB's are taught to read the fullback and flow to that gap and when Kyle bends and changes directions, it's usually too late for the LB to adjust through all the trash.

Don't know that Taumoepeau is that guy, but he fits the size and athleticism profile.
