Here's some cut-ups of Jaylon against the Bears and Bills last season. Couple of things:
  1. Jaylon doesn't play with any base; he is lifted and moved out of lanes at will because he doesn't sink his hips and hops into blocks;
  2. Jaylon does not stack and shed (look at the first gif below) at all; there is no resistance from him maintaining his gap which allows for open running lanes;
  3. His play balance is all out of whack; plays way too high and hops rather shift his weight fluidly.

Here (above), Jaylon gets moved 10-yards down the field backwards.

71qLZr.gif

Jaylon here (above) just gets bowled over playing too upright.

Piling up those "tackle" totals.

GvN5l7.gif

Stack and shed is completely non-existent; guesses at which lane the RB will take and runs himself out the play.

This is 195 lbs Eric Weddle against 255 lbs Tyler Eifert showing how you stack and shed.

Some of these are pretty bad, and demonstrate why I don't think Jaylon is best suited to being an interior LB. He is not the tough, take on the block in traffic kind of guy. He needs to be on the outside where he has more room to run and maneuver.

But a few of these are decent plays. On the second one, for example, he saw the interior running lane was clogged up, and he jumped to the outside to prevent the RB from cutting around the edge. He didn't make the tackle, but the job isn't always to make the tackle. Sometimes it's to prevent running lanes so others can make the tackle. On another he shed a block and was in position for the tackle and got a little piece of it.

Thanks for this. You could find dozens of these. He has zero desire to aggressively take on blocks. The coaches were so awful last year to let him get away with this crap. He has a ton of talent so hopefully they can get him thinking about football again.

Joke thread and joke responses.

I really wish some of you could run NFL teams. Would be hilarious.

Consistently on this board a guy is either an All-Pro or should be out of football.

I am sure the OP and people commenting have done a deep analysis of Jaylon's play the last 2 years.

How exactly is it a joke?

You act like I simply posted “Jaylon sucks” and didn’t substantiate anything claimed.

I provided those cutups on the initial post, however, I also provided gifs of other people from John Owning, Brian Baldinger, to Charles Robinson that have called out Jaylon for poor play.

But I guess you can simply say “joke thread and joke responses” and act like that’s some sorta counter argument.

Then these coaches had him playing in the middle. Another joke. You have flow to the football linebackers and then ignore DT. lol. No wonder this D got ran over regularly. Smith absolutely sucks at taking on blocks. This was a dumazz draft pick.

I cant believe you are in here caping for Jalyon lol

He was awful last year and his lack of awareness is embarassing.

As far as the team, 2019 was the least likable roster I have personally witnessed in over a decade.

Jaylon still has strengths.

Positives: He can run sideline to sideline as good as anyone, he can come down hill, and he is a high level blitzer.

Negatives: He turns like a sail boat and I do not want him going backwards or finding himself in coverage.

He had a bad year but he does still have some big strengths in his game.

What upset me about him though is he looks to be one of the guys more focused on his brand than playing football. Celebrating when we were getting whooped was not a good look either.
Agreed with exception to his blitzing. He seems to run straight into the blocking scum and whiffs or never reaches or even pressures the QB.

Better DL, change in position and change in coaching will do Jaylon wonders.

I expect more of the 2018 version from now on.

I agree, Last year was very difficult to like ANYONE on Dallas 2019 roster, especially Smith but I'll give it a year and see if there is any improvement, but my leash is pretty short on him.

I was never a believer in Jaylon but after his 2018 season, I was like damn this guy proved me wrong. He improved leaps and bounds. He's still overrated by the fanbase but he's become a really solid linebacker.

Then he got paid and mailed it in. Combined that with his absolutely cringe celebrations on a regular basis. I'm not a fan.

Need to say way more from him this season if I'm going to come around again.

I could explain why you have not clue what you're seeing but you wouldn't listen anyway.

The guy that does these videos knows more than you do. Listen to him.

On a blitz sometimes the blitzer takes on a blocker to free up another man so I don’t know what blitz you’re talking about but you have to take that into consideration.

No you couldn't.

You're a guy with All-22 that doesn't have a clue of what talking about. You literally just learned the difference between a 43 and a 34 last year.

I don’t have an ounce of respect for you.

Good call.

Then he would get the thread deleted and lie about what he had said later.

Lie, smh?

Like literally the thing you're doing right now?

Go back to the coronavirus forum and continue spreading your message that it ain't happening.

Lie?

Like you’re doing now?

Please go back to the coronavirus forum and continue denying it’s happening.

“There’s not a single reported case (COVID) at Cedar Sinai.”

Claiming I said that recently is a lie. I said it over two months ago and it was true then. You are posting it now like I just said it.

Clown show.
