Dak was a rookie who got to stand behind the best offensive line in football, with the best running back in the NFL, in the worst division in the NFL.
He did okay- because the team was doing well.
But then reality set in, and he struggled the next 3 years.
By the way-he never should have been under center in his second year, but Garrett was hoping he would show everyone what a great coach he was.
As usual, Garrett didn't have a clue.

Yep, most NFL teams would leave the returning Rookie Offensive player of the year on the bench too:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

I have no problem being wrong. That's for educating me about the tag. But I thought for sure they'd done that with Dez a couple of years back. But I guess they pulled the tag then signed him.

Again, thanks for the info.

Dallas didn't pull the tag with Dez - they signed him to a long term extension shortly before the 4:00 p.m. deadline on July 15. I expect that's what will happen with Dak as well. Both sides have plenty to lose if he just plays out the year on the franchise number. He could get hurt and be ineffective. He could be out and watch Dalton put up similar numbers (or even worse, watch the rookie do well just like what happened with Romo). Jerry, on the other hand, would prefer some certainty long term as well as a reduced 2020 cap hit. Pressure on both sides would lead most people to believe that they'll put pen to paper on the 15th.

Oh yeah, I forgot it happened like that. Well, I guess Dak is pulling a Dez and just waiting to the moment.

Other than some risks (getting hit by a bus, getting arrested for something major, losing a limb or a finger, testing positive for COVID-19 - likely not a big deal for him but also the most probable of the aforementioned), there is no incentive for him to sign anything until 3:59 pm on 7/15. If Jerry weren't such a pushover and started faxing him contract offers of lesser value each day, then maybe he'd have a sense of urgency.

If it gets done, it will be on the 15th. So yay! Almost 2 more months of the drama.
