So, this means it’s likely Dak signs for 5/$185M with $142.5M guaranteed. Extrapolate the 4 year guaranteed money out to 5 years and add the extra $10M in year 5 as guaranteed money.

Correct. You would have 4 more years of knowledge about how he is playing.

If he is not playing well. You cut him and move in.

If he was playing at a top 5 level in the league..... 45 mil won’t be an unrealistic cap hit in 2025 for a top 5 QB. Or you extend him because he is playing at a top 5 level and is only 32 years old at that point.
Right. Nice points.

Jerry wants to sign a family member where each side can live happily ever after.

He is your QB for 4 years, and chances are better than not he will either WANT to stay or you'll want to move on.

My goodness this is stupid.

What do you think the chances are of JJ rescinding the tag?

Don't forget the politics involved here with DAK which are many.
He is after all the Jerry Jones adopted son.
Jerry might have to bite the bullet with the tag and once Dak continues to falter move in Dalton at some point.
Personally I feel there done with Dak and are just looking to end the marriage without major PR fallout.

The difference there is Zeke actually is a top tier player in the league at his position. Dak isn't. I like Dak, but he is who he is.

I couldnt care less about a player in the league wanting his money, I'm just saying the Jones boys are doing a good job creating this narrative that Dak and his agent are trying to lampoon this team, as well as using the media on their behalf during this negotiation.

Dak is who he is, but he's a QB. That counts for a lot in the way things work. And the Jones' aren't doing anything different than has been done with player negotiations for years and years. Figures always leak out and they're solely meant to rile up money-deniers. I mean, is there anything special about this report of a 5th year $45M when we're talking about $35-$38M annually and tons of deals are back-loaded? But $45M is higher than the $40M number people were "outraged" about when it was actually false so then the "greed" crowd is agitated all over again. Same ol', same ol' but I get that people need to think that Dak's taking a beating or is somehow at a disadvantage even with a good deal of leverage. I'm sure money-deniers felt the same when Stephen talked about not being market-setters or when they got Jaylon's deal done ahead of Zeke's. That meant what again? That's all I'm saying.

I think MM has opened JJs eyes some. This is based off of our FA and draft this year. The media is giving JJ all the credit but I don’t see one JJ fingerprint anywhere since the hire of MM. The old man wants another SB before he kicks the bucket. It didn’t take but 25 years to see it wasn’t going to happen doing it his way.

For those that think 45M will be a bargain in 4 years..

How do we know? For all we know, coming out of this pandemic (eventually), we could go right into a recession.

Again what has Dak done in his 4 seasons in Dallas to deserve that kind of dough? How many playoff wins again??

I advocated not resigning Zeke. But what's done is done. At least for now, I am a happy camper that Dallas is not agreeing to Dan's demands.

Which is what tell you that this is not what they are likely asking for.

The only thing they could be asking for that would matter is raising the total guaranteed, which is what I expect. I figure if Wilson and Wentz got $107 million guaranteed to add four years to their deals, then Dak won't sign a five-year deal for less than $110 million guaranteed. If Dallas can get him to agree to $105 million guaranteed, the Cowboys should jump all over that.

Not sure why we are so bent on getting him on a five year...I actually prefer four. maybe he doesn’t improve and we could cut bait sooner.

additionally, if he’s gonna win a SB, then it’s gonna be in the next four years, let’s be real.
If he hasn’t gotten one or gotten us close by then we will need to move on and have the money freed up.
If we HAVE won a SB with him by then, who will care how much he is asking for then?
Seems like a big silly disagreement over something that won’t end up mattering much

What? 45 million smackers for his 5th year?

I'll betcha Jerry soiled his undies when he heard that!

Hell, I practically did that myself and it can't cost me a dime!

Whatever happened to the mother-loving youngster that we fell in love with? o_O

Im not denying any of that Sydla. Nowhere in my post did I deny any of that. So idk why you say I’m missing the point. I’m saying even if a deal like that was signed (it won’t be). He would never see that money anyway because the team would have to cut him or restructure.

I never said the cowboys would be willing to sign such a deal, because obviously they won’t. And we don’t even know how accurate this report even is.

also, the report just says 45 million for the 5th year. Not a 45 million base salary. So the 45 million for year 5 would include any prorated signing bonus. It would still also include a substantial non guaranteed base salary, that would be non guaranteed and the team wouldn’t have to pay if they don’t want to.

Russell Wilson’s cap hit for the final year of his deal is 39 million in 2023.

Is 45 million in 2025 really that crazy of a number??? We are talking about 6 million more, 2 years later when the salary cap will be at least 40 million higher (based on current trends)
I would emphasizing the talent more than the money. Dak ain't russell. Imo, not by a long shot.

You are now deflecting.

The structure has been set by his peers. Wentz and Dak signed 4 year EXTENSIONS putting them under control for 6 years. Wilson signed a 4 year EXTENSION putting him under team control for 5 years.

Dak wants only 4 years so he can cash in sooner after he signs this new deal. He's asking for something that his peers didn't get.
But this is silly. Dak can't sign an extension. He could've last year, but again, I don't know what was offered. The others had 5-year rookie deals, his was only 4. I assume they didn't offer him an extension with similar terms to Wilson's after last season, which is why he's not signed now. He already had the first year of team control that you're counting for the others. The Cowboys already had that year. They can't now say that he's asking now for more than the others, after they had the opportunity to give him the same 5 year extension last year and declined to do so.
