Good point. Was Haslett their DC at the time? Can't remember who it was but for whatever reason Garrett use to be clueless every time Haslett came into town.
I think it was Haslett. But what was so disturbing was during the press conference Garrett was asked about what the Commanders were doing and all he could do is say we have to go back and look at the tape. Maybe its just me but why in the H e l l wasn't that looked at during the game by the offensive line coach. Why wasn't Garrett getting somebody to figure out what was happening. He had the same response during the Atlanta game. But that game it was so obvious what was happening it almost made you cry waiting for him to give Green some kind of help.

Troy Aikman was sacked 11 times in 1991... Next season was the first of 3 superbowl wins.

Dak gets sacked 6 times; well... he needs time to recover and adjust, cause he's a young guy.

Mentally weak.

Yeah. Every player is exactly the same.

I wonder what the difference between 1992 troys team and 2017-18 Dak’s teams were also.

Also, Dak isn’t as good as a HALL OF FAME QB. So he must be trash.

That's another thing that use to piss me off. Garrett use to make it seem like they were not allowed to make in-game adjustments. Like it was against league rules.

At the time I couldn't fathom what happened. Maybe it was arrogance that Chaz Green can play. But looking back...just another prime example of incompetent coaching. And some fans will tell you blaming Garrett is a cop out but that game was arguably the biggest stain on his career. He sat there time and time again watching Dak get killed by this guy. Completely buried Chaz Green and almost did the same to Dak. Chaz Green was a young player at the time and Dak was in his second year. Should've protected him more that game.

One of the biggest Garrett negatives was that he caused OL coach Bill Callahan to leave and take the same job with the Skins.

Frank Pollack moved up from being the assistant OL coach under Callahan to the OL coach when Callahan departed.

Callahan would have insisted on giving Green and late Byron Bell help in that game which they didn't end up getting.

Green gets reamed for that game but Byron Bell replaced him and might have been worse. Bell is credited with 1 sack allowed but it would have been two if a penalty didn't stop the play early. With 2 Bell would have given up more per snap played than Green.

Green had started 2 games at LT in 2016 and was good enough that most fans/media didn't notice him.

Green had started 3 games at OG in 2017 and then got injured. He was not 100% when he returned to start at LT vs the Falcons and had surgery after that season. It was obvious that he was struggling to move due to the hip issue.

Garrett ruined the player because his confidence was shot after that game.

Even Dak admitted that he was so shell-shocked after that game that it affected him the rest of the season.

Yeah, when it's 'by the book', our offense could really tear it up. But when the unexpected happened? Yeah, we were never prepared for that and things usually went badly.

Even this past year against the Jets, Gregg Williams blitzed us all day, confused our blockers, and banged and battered Dak all day. Playing backup tackles sure didn't help, but it was clear that our offense overall wasn't prepared yet again.
That's what I was gonna say next. The sad part is this happened all throughout his tenure. Even to the end.

That wasn't Cooper getting beat on that film. It was Green and Byron Bell. Two guys with no business lining up at left tackle. But the Cowboys 'brain trust' thought differently and we saw how that worked out.

I actually forgot they brought Bell out with even worse results.... this was a rough one all around I guess

For the rest of the season, Nate Newton just kept saying "you don't let a young QB get hit like that" because no-win situations like that can set back their development, or even ruin them, and from Atlanta on, Dak's numbers just tanked.

Dak's QB Rating, by quarters of 2017
90.1, 107.6, 64.3, 82.8

Not that I agree with getting your QB abused, but wasn't a large part of that due to Zeke getting suspended?

16% of Claiborn's career sacks came in that one game.

I'd like to replace Claiborn in this game with Deacon Jones in his prime just to see what would happen.

He had played reasonably well in several previous starts.

Don't ignore facts that don't fit you narrative.

True statement, but after two or three sacks, you've got to do something about his terrible play. Chaz Green, was worse than a revolving door, during that game.

1:20 RB shaded to Green's side
1:30 rolled the pocket right away from Green
2:45 Witten stayed in to help Green
4:12 RB to Green's side

i stopped after that. i just want to point out -again- that Green was given a ton of help that day. People that claim elsewise are ignorant.

That will always be a limitation of Garrett. He will never be that quick Xs and Os coach.

Garrett was punishing Dak for audibling out of the playcall.

Dak was changing Garrett's plays but running Linehan's.

Garrett said,

" I'll fix your little red wagon. buddy.

I am leaving Green in all game.".

See ya on the bus after the game, dude."

The rest was history.
You'd probably be proud of Garrett for that

Then he over corrected to a fault the following game. Like he had to prove to the world he wasn't wrong.
