Personally I think Smith is going to ball out. Clear head, grateful for another chance, well-rested, something to prove. I predict. (Drum roll please......) 14 sacks.

Bet you he will be a stud. This guy is a freak of nature, look out. Guy is fresh with no wear and tear.

I got a good feeling about Smith. A guy looking to prove himself and redeem himself. Plus he was a beast at one time. It's not like they're bringing back Kavika Pittman. This guy was the real deal. I don't expect a 25 year old player, but I do expect a competent and quality DE.

I’m shocked! Clearly RG didn’t realize Aldon had signed with us, must’ve thought he was a NYG.

Suffice it to say, the team's pass rush is not currently its strength. And with star cornerback Byron Jones also leaving in free agency, the team's pass defense could take a step back in 2020.

A reinstated Gregory would help. He was solid in 2018 with six sacks and seven tackles for loss. It's hard to imagine him suddenly becoming a star given the gaps in his playing career, but he would give the team more depth at the very least.

And given the immense talent he boasted coming out of college, it's certainly possible he could be a solid contributor in 2020. Both Smith and Gregory could be reclamation projects with major upside for Dallas next season.

:) On the carpet, I hear that both are against social distancing!

Well, maybe he can explain to Gregory how to file for reinstatement. Apparently, Gregory has no idea how to do the paperwork.

Man, that would be the best comeback story in five or ten years.

But the thing is, Smith absolutely has the physical talent to do it.

This is clearly just another scheme by Goodell to hurt the Cowboys.

I'll put it like this - I cannot think of a 1 year "character issues" gamble FA we've signed whose issues have not cropped back up. And to my knowledge, coming back to pro football after 5 years off is unprecedented in the sport.

Very low chance this gamble hits, very high chance it backfires. I'm not enthusiastic about this signing at all.

A lot of World War II era athletes took years off, and then came back to play. It is not unprecedented at all.

Update: Roger Staubach took 4 years off to fight in Vietnam, then came to the Cowboys as a 27 year old rookie. Ended up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Wow. Great news.

Now lets see if he can get into game shape in the next 2 years.
They need to be careful and ease him into action. I know he has been working out a lot but football movements are much different than simulated football movements.

Many players need to be eased back into action just from the few months off between seasons. With 4 years away...
