As stated before, he has to control what's between his ears. No question in my mind, talent is still there. Maybe not 15+ sacks but certainly double digits.

Aldon Smith has been reinstated to the NFL after a long substance abuse suspension, and despite a nearly five-year layoff, he says he can still be the All-Pro he once was.

Smith told TMZ.com that he sees no reason he can’t be the guy on the field who had 19.5 sacks in 2012, plus a better person off the field.

Interesting dynamics between Aldon and Randy. Aldon is trying to prove he's a better person/player w/o addiction. Randy, on the other hand, is trying to convince us/league he's a better player WITH his addiction.

https://www.nfl.com/news/cowboys-aldon-smith-reinstated-to-nfl-without-mileage-on-my-body

He seems to have a found a new life and good for him.

Not only that, but the level of athlete he is is unbelievable. He has the most sacks ever in first two years in the league.

If anyone can be re enter the league and make a huge dkfference after a 4 year absence, it will be Aldon Smith.

He is going to be a huge weapon for the dline and should give DLaw a lot more one-on-ones.

I see a minimum 12 sack season for Smith.

We as Cowboys fans have been burned by these words before. Like the others before him, I hope he means what he says.

Jerry has always supported players of his, with a problem. One would hope, that sophistication and team work eventually strikes home for more of these types. We are all winners then!

Rooting for him and any other person who tries to turn their life around but I've my doubts about him being the same player. Four years is a long time in the NFL...many players' entire careers don't last that long.

I never looked at it this way but it does help though that Gregory's addiction seems to be marijuana and Aldon's was alcohol.

Smith told TMZ.com that he sees no reason he can’t be the guy on the field who had 19.5 sacks in 2012, plus a better person off the field.

I’m an overall better person,” he said. “I got 20 sacks — or 19.5, I say 20 because it was 20 — but, I was able to play at a high level with a lot of other things going on in my life. With how life is for me now, I’m just looking forward to seeing what I can do. My goal is to pick up where I left off. That just means I always work hard. I always play hard. I want the same thing out of my teammates and I’m sure those guys in the locker room feel the same way, and with that mentality, the sky is the limit. I think as long as we do what we need to do and everybody plays to their potential anything’s possible.”

Smith, who described himself as “extremely thankful for the Cowboys” for giving him another chance in the NFL, said that he feels great at 30 years old. “God has blessed me with talent,” Smith said. “And one of the talents is my natural gift to play ball, to be an athlete. So, I still feel young. I don’t have the mileage on my body. I still feel great when I go to the gym. I still feel young and fresh. So, if anything, I’m looking forward to what I’m going to be able to do out there.”

Given Smith’s track record, it would be easy to question whether he can really stay on the right path long enough to return to his All-Pro form. If he can, the Cowboys just added an elite pass rusher to their roster.

He has gained focus and currently is dedicated. He has pride and a lot to prove...now is the hard work.

It doesn't but we are also dealing with a special talent here. His first few years in the league...he was on pace to be the best end rusher in the league if he wasn't already. If he is 60% of what that guy was we still have a fine talent here.
