I think it would only be cheaper by $2 million & i'm sure he would hold out under that 2nd tag.

So if he's going to be like that, hold him as the Franchise Tag, wait for teams to spend to spend their Cap and release him.

There's the argument that what happens if he's released this year.....who is going to pay him to be the highest player.

So who's your QB next year under that scenario?

You’re right, I enjoy publicly shaming you.

Just like Dak’s strong play has shamed you into silence.

I challenge you to answer this question: if Dak and Dalton had identical contracts, which QB would you want to start for the Cowboys?

I bet you won’t answer. The feelings of shame and embarrassment are too strong.
You don’t understand. You are not worth arguing with. If I respond as I should, I would get banned, so I just ignore you. You are not worth the time and I have become bored with the Dak discussions.

No, that's not what the argument is about. It's about overpaying players, in this case overpaying the QB.

Incorrect. Mahomes won the super bowl due to D. As did Payton, Eli, Rodgers, Steelers, Patriots, NO, SEA. All of them.

It's like, you have these facts in front of your face, but you choose to ignore them. Or maybe you just can't hear them due to all the fooforawing you're doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Price is at the forefront of this argument. If Dak was playing for around 30 mil, I'd be all for him. I like him as a Qb, and consider him good enough. Unless we have to overpay him, then there's a good chance he's not.

Mahomes won the superbowl because of the D...OOOKKKK then...so all you need is a 14th ranked defense to win a championship and an average QB....OOOOKKKK, you don't think Mahomes was great in their superbowl run...OOOKKK

and I am OK with paying him $35 mill a year.... $5M a year is not going to be the difference between this team's ability to win or lose a superbowl….and in fact I had advocated and supported not giving him a contract last summer and let him prove it....if he shows improvements then I am ok, with the additional money it will cost us to sign him....

two years from now, $35 is below average and that's how the NFL QB salaries have been. Cousins making 33, Wilson right up there (signed a couple of years ago),

I can't remember a single time Dalton was considered a top 15 QB but now he is on the Cowboys the Dak haters trying to say he is like Tom Brady. Anybody saying Dalton is better than Dak should get their head checked and be banned from talking any sports

I don't think it's that in as much as it is "Hey, look at all the weapons we have for any functional quarterback to work with." Truth be told, with a new offensive-minded coach and the way this team has been structured on offense, you pretty much have to suck as a quarterback not to take this team to - at the very least - a playoff game. A level of safe yet consistently competent quarterbacking should get you to the second round of the playoffs whether that's the divisional round or the NFC Championship.

A vote for Dalton means a vote for a 32-year old qb that:

Doesn't take on tough throws.

Isn't capable of hitting tight windows consistently.

Can't throw receivers open with precision and timing.

Runs out of clean pockets instead of hanging in til the last moment.

Struggles when forced to speed up his process and decision making due to pressure.

Doesn't mitigate pressure with his movement in the pocket.

Too often throws inaccurate passes from clean pockets.

Doesn't confidently deliver the ball in condensed pockets a la Philip Rivers.

Has always had problems throwing deep despite AJ Green offering a huge margin for error.

Is constantly confused by adjustments after the snap.

Is virtually wholly reliant on his pre-snap read to diagnose a defense.

Has never had the mindset to push the ball downfield.

Has poor processing in the pocket and poor mechanics under pressure, which put him in positions where he's susceptible to dangerous throws.

Gives you the worst traits of both a game manager and a gunslinger without the benefits.

^ *Eye test approved.
So, youre saying the only difference is their age. mmkay

A lot of people on this forum spend way too much time on one line of sand or the other and forget that this is about a team and not individuals...so when your qb is not starting all you do is whine and complain the entire time. So, is it about being a Cowboys fan? Or about the individual you like best?
It's about the best individual who gives Cowboys fans something to cheer about, i.e., a Super Bowl championship.
How's that? ;)

I think either Dak or Dalton can get us deep into the playoffs for the next 3 years or so. I think our real future is in Ben DiNucci or someone like him. When I put my owner's hat on, I just hate being blackmailed. I think that big contract is locker room cancer and will result in a lazy Dak. I'd give Dak a big ole hug and thank him for all his help. I'd start Andy, hire a backup for him, and train Ben like crazy. Your mileage may vary.

how did Mahomes, one of the best young QBs in the league, potentially the $45M man..win because of the D? yes, their D was improved from 32nd to 14th......but without Mahomes, they would have a snow flake's chance in hell to get to the superbowl or win it.... get real...… Peyton, second time around won with the help of their D....GB, Pittsburgh, Patriots, NO, Seattle wouldn't have won if they had an average QB playing for them....some probably wouldn't even make the playoffs...that's foolish to think Seattle would have won with Dalton instead of Wilson or Seattle would have won with Geno smith as opposed to Rodgers, or GB winning a superbowl with Shaun Hill....

you are purposely ignoring facts, given your soul point is to prove yourself right, everything else be damned.....

I suppose its all down to what's Dak's priority:

1) Maximise earning potential
2) Largest contract signed in the NFL
3) Highest paid player in 2020
4) Highest paid player from the 2016 draft.
5) The next Cowboy to be overpaid.

So did Aikman. Aikman, how'd he do when #22 or #88 sat?
But Aikman, with those players, was BLOWING OUT the better teams in the league like the Eagles, the 49ers, the Packers and the Bills.
Tell me which BETTER teams has Dak consistently led the Cowboys to blowouts over with Zeke, Witten, Gallup and Cooper?

Every quarterback needs talent around him to win. But the elite quarterbacks with great talent elevate their game in the big moments. The average quarterbacks are mere cogs in the machine.

Aikman was no mere cog. ;)

You don’t understand. Dak is responsible for all the wins , but the team is responsible for all of the loses. At least that is how some fans see it.

You got it wrong. The teamm is responsible for all Daks stats. You know, all the weapons he needs?

Dak is clearly a much better QB than Andy Dalton at this point. It’s a no brainer as to which one would make the team better. That being said I’m not opposed to trading Dak and rolling with Andy for a year if the contract doesn’t get done.
