Dak is a top qb in this league. I pay him what he wants and ride his back to glory.

It's easy to forget how talented the Bengals were earlier in Dalton's career. Jim Harbough even called them "the most talented team in the league". Just read some articles from around that period, like this one, in which it says:

"The Bengals are one of these teams that has elite talent at almost every position except the most important position in the game."

Looks like a typo, "Cowboys" should replace "Bengals"

It has been reported that Prescott is asking for $45 million in the 5th year of a 5 year contract.

What on earth has Patrick Mahomes got to do with this!?

Tony Romo comes across well from what I have seen and read about him but I have never met him. Didn't he restructure contracts so that they were made up of bonuses to assist with the salary cap? His level was worthy of League MVP in 2014 before injuries curtailed his career.

And I am sure Dak will restructure his deal too...just like Romo.

MVP huh? Then you surely think Dak Prescott is MVP worthy too. Let's look Romo's contract the year prior to his new deal:

Record: 8-8
QB Rating: 90.5/65.4
Yards: 4903
Passing TDs: 28
Ints: 19 (career high)
Com. Pert: 65.6

49 rushing yards and 1 TD

vs.

Dak Prescott:

Record: 8-8
QB Rating: 99.7
Yards: 4902
Passing TDs: 30
Ints: 11
Com. Pert: 65.1

277 yards rushing and 3 TDs

That was with a team that's proven to be bereft of the level of talent that the Cowboys have in tow at present. I'm not inclined to judge him by that.
Quarterbacks don’t just change who they are regardless of talent. It’s never happened.

If Prescott restructures his contract like Romo did then that would be most sporting of him.

Yes Romo performed to an MVP level in 2014 and received votes to reflect the same. He lost out to Aaron Rodgers. No shame in that.

No Dak Prescott hasn't performed to an MVP standard as of yet.

Comparing two completely diffferent rosters is very productive. The 8-8 is the common denominator which would suggest that Jason Garrett coached both teams...was the 8-8 season you highlight for Romo the one where the Cowboys had historically one of the worst ever defenses in the NFL...or was that the season before!?

The results of this poll are embarrassing. This forum has become a mecca of ridiculous takes. Normal, informed people would not act this way. I grew up withl Staubacht and and lived through the Gary Hogebooms , Steve Pelleurs, Kevin Sweeneys . The Cowboys have been one of the few Franchises that have not been in QB hell, at least not for very long. Some franchises never have any one.
I wish younger fans could realize how blessed this organization has been and continues to be with QBs

Dalton has earned his money and comes across as a stand up guy. If he happened to play next season for $3 million base then I could see him signing with the Cowboys for around $15-$20 million a season thereafter to stay in the family home nearby and a SB quality roster. He wouldn't be looking for $45 million like Prescott.

We are so close to clearing the decks. Dalton for the next two seasons, drafting a rookie QB in the first round next season. The issue is trying to get a second rounder for dumping Prescott.

Yet I expect the front office to miss this opportunity to blow their nose and move on.
I see.

Your plan is to play a busdriver at QB until our entire roster ages into complete decline or becomes too expensive to keep and then completely rebuild around a magical mystical mahomesberry QB you’ll pluck from a bush growing outside the Home Depot.

Genius plan

Without any hesitation.....DALTON!!!!!
Only reason you’re not on ignore is because your posts are like a beacon of nonsense that tips off sensible readers as to other posters who we can dismiss because they’ve given you likes.

You can ignore an issue but that won't make it go away bud.

To answer your first question, well that's what we would be doing with Prescott (bus driver) but paying 10x the amount for the privilege which would not be prudent given the reports of a potential significant decrease in the salary cap due to covid-19.

No. Start two seasons with Dalton including one season with a first round rookie coming in either during that second season or start of the third season. I'm not expecting Patrick Mahomes just a guy on a rookie contract who can make some throws and win a game or two each season when the running game gets shut down.
