Cant argue that in any kind of way.

Even if you're a personal friend of Garrett, you cant make the case he was any good when he had a full decade and didnt as much as reach a conference championship.

Had a bad habit of coming up small in big spots.

Unless you’re discussing the topic with someone who relies on things like ‘evidence’ to decide what they think about a topic. So you’re generally safe in here, yeah.

Didn’t “as much as reach a conference championship” is pretty illustrative of where the delta is between your expectations and the reality of the organizations performance, btw. There are a lot of things that can stand between a team and a conference championship game. “Yeah, but” might seem like an appropriate reply to that, but it’s actually not. With all the money and parity involved in the league right now, organizations need to be optimized for winning. Making it to the final four with an organization optimized for the pleasure of the owner, first, and for building brand value, second, shouldn’t ever be considered a given.

Despite spending the majority of picks and money on the offense, Garrett would always tend to put the burden on the defense to stop opposing teams instead of the offense to keep the ball out of the opponent's hands.

It was all about blame. He's associated more with the offense than defense, so put the defense in position to take the fall.
Of course. Make someone else responsible. Isn’t that how he helped wade out the door. But the games this year when his Offense stalled when the Defense actually held is what helped him out the door.

I mentioned before in another thread Jeff Cavanaugh and others complaining on twitter live during games about the offensive playcalling. Here's Jeff talking about research based on last year.

Basically the worst thing we did (in terms of getting yards) on first down was run the football. The best thing we did was play action. So obviously there were more runs than play action on first down.

This is the sort of thing that happens when you don't self scout/use analytics (or maybe they did and just chose to ignore that input).

edit: Pretty sure this is what he was referring to:

Hmmm..

Isn't this convenient.?

We get to again do an autopsy on the Dallas Cowboys.

Listen, blaming coaches who are fired and long gone does nothing.

Blowing your horn and screaming "I told you so'..

sounds like a husband and wife fight over which dishwasher they should have bought becuz the one they bought dropped dead.

Come on.

How many more?

I want to forget last year. the entire team screwed the pooch.

Can we not just move on?

We were bad. We coughed a hairball and failed to beat Philly when we had them.

Take it like men and stop the alibis.

Should I make a dozen Dak threads instead?

At any rate, despite the title of the thread, I wanted this to be a discussion of what the Cowboys do well, and what they do poorly.
Me?

I post Dak daily.

I'm hooked on a feeling with him.

Can't put up with him anymore.

You are just a ray of sunshine.

I thought about all the sunshine threads about Big Mike this and Big Mike that.

We always start like this then pass the 'piss and moan' bucket later about it Jerrah's fault anyway.

We are all creatures of habit.

As it should be. If things don't go well McCarthy is in charge and responsible and will be held to that. It won't be the usual finger pointing and finding the yearly scapegoat we've grown accustomed to around here.

Sir (assuming its gender correct), I respect your contribution to this wonderful forum and I'm not going to get into a verbal bout of your thoughts vs mine.

I'm not here to vent frustrations. I dont insist on being right, and in the end we all want the same thing.

That's that. You think your thing and I think mine.

All good.

I mean, that all said, Garrett was pure garbage, and whether you like it or not, everyone in every walk of life is judged by the results of their performance.

I dont need to point out the rest. Think about that and join the rest of us at some point. You're a great fan and we would love to have you.

No worries. Though, to be fair loving him and recognizing that he was terribly unappreciated by most fans here aren’t the same things. Also, I said before the season started last year that he shouldn’t be extended if he couldn’t get a good team to the post season in a contract year, so I’m. It exactly lamenting him being gone. I’m just still defending against the stupid variety of irrational criticism he gets too much of.
These offseason threads get worse and worse. Yes, everyone agrees, after 10 years Garrett couldn't put it together and it was time for a change. But his offense sucked? It was #1 last year with an middle of the pack QB. And does nobody see Dak audibling? He can run or pass at any time. He can pass on 1st down all the time if he wants. Christ, the horse is dead, let up on it.

I understand. He was a better HC than Wade.

It’s crazy. This is basic logic we’re talking about here.

If this was Aikman/Romo last year posting the same stats Dak did, no way you say they were middle of the pack.
