Why do you think RG3's career crashed?

To be fair, RG3 does still have a career, but just as a backup. When the Commanders drafted him, he was considered a top prospect to become elite. They traded up to get him. In his first year, it looked like they had struck gold and would be worth their trade-up and the money. He was amazing in his rookie year. But it was all downhill from there. I know he was injured and needed to recover from that, but I was expecting him to heal up and then get back to his old self. Instead, he was replaced by Kirk Cousins, who was drafted much lower (in the 3rd or 4th round, I forget which).

So RG3 went on to Cleveland and the Baltimore and just hasn't been the same. He's now a journeyman backup. What happened? Was his first year just a fluke?

Multiple injuries.

Did he even finish any of the games he started in Cleveland?

He's been behind better guys in Baltimore (well, not sure about Flacco, but they weren't benching him).
It wasnt really the injury's as much as his sense of entitlement. This is a guy who wouldnt let coaches show his bad plays during film sessions. That type of person is never going to improve.

He got most of his athleticism back. However, the league figured him out ans he never put in the work to grow into a legitimate QB

The knee injuries killed him.
The Commanders played him to get into playoffs. And he got hurt again.
He was never the same.
Teams let him run as after a few pops RGIII lost his throwing accuracy.

He was on the brink of superstardom. It was injuries. Although the injuries should have been expected the way that they used him and/or the way that he chose to play.

Wentz was dangerously close to that path for a while there, too. He seemed to be smarter about it in 2019, but it’s still something worth watching.

Because he was as dumb as a rock.

Never learned how to slide and get out of bounds.
Got the big head, according to teammates.
Prima Donna.
Poor pocket presence.

Injuries obviously played a huge role but I also think it was pretty obvious that Jay Gruden didn't want anything to do with him. Which is why you didn't see Washington build their offensive system around his strengths. It always felt as if Gruden was hell bent on trying to force that square peg into the round hole.

I don't follow the Commanders closely so I don't know what was going on behind closed doors. But I have never seen a NFL head coach publicly rip and talk down to his starting QB like Gruden did RG3.

Didn’t have a consistent arm. If he was at least a solid pocket passer with consistency I think he would have overcome the injuries.

No, he wasn't. He was never able to pass at a high level. He was an athlete playing QB and wasn't capable of consistently running a passing O.

You mean Shanahan. And you are correct, he did not want him. Pretty much let him play to hurt himself because Snyder forced him on Shanahan.

Yes he was. He was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, setting records for rookie QB passer rating and TD:INT ratio in the process.

Shanahan was his coach originally but it was Jay Gruden who really seemed to have a personal problem with him and really went out of his way to criticism him through the media.

Injuries. He had no business playing at the end of 2012 but Washington didn't care. Played him into the ground literally. His game was based on him being elusive and athletic. Once that was one because of the surgeries, he was never the same after.
