While we’ve had one constant leading Cowboys Football since our last championship , we’ve had 6 different HC’s unable to take us back to a Super Bowl or even a championship appearance .

How would you rank them during this time frame.

Here’s my order of worst Cowboys HC during this stretch:
Campo
Switzer
Phillips
Gailey
Garrett
Parcells

Not sure how we could place anyone but Campo with the 3 straight 5-11 seasons on the bottom. And Switzer left a mess of the dynasty Jimmy built. Wade left a mess of the team Bill had built. Gailey could possibly be ranked 2nd above Garrett as he probably did as much as anyone with what he had left . Jerry even admits cut him loose too soon.

The reason I rank Garrett that high is based on his record , division titles and playoff wins which the latter two are more than the rest combined. Despite his coaching flaws and dysfunctional situation he helped steer our franchise in a better direction and has helped influence this roster in a greater position to contend.

One of the best measurement of coaching despite records is have you left the team in a better position than when you took over. There’s only 3 HC in Jerry’s era which meet that criteria. Jimmy, Bill and Jason.

if u gauge your results on playoff wins and success then they were all pretty much the same parcells did build a good team but he never had a really good qb until tony took over and that was at the end of his time in dallas the rest of them other than campo were all pretty much the same

im sorry but calling all of them worst is wrong..putting all the coaches in order from good to bad would be beter and to all the garett hayters hes like what 2nd all time on the win list, I klnow hes no parcells or Jimmy landry etc etc
by far Campo was the wrost with Gaily a close second but Switzer just what he didn in college and hada a SB ring regardless of the sitaion he took over takes him off the list as well..

Truth be told in the All-time DC history we have less coahes then many teams and only have truly two that were BAD, is a positive not negative..

my list in order of best to last

Landry
Jimmy
parcells
Garett
Switzer
Phillips
Gaily
Campo

that all the coaches we've had since 1960 is crazy

Campo.

Talk about dark times!

Garrett sucked but was still a better HC than Campo.

Imagine what Garrett would do with the lack of talent Campo had to coach. I am not sure Campo is any better but he sure didn't have 1/2 the talent Garrett wasted.

And IMO at least Campo's teams played like they cared, they were just completely outgunned almost every game (Commanders not included haha: 6-0).

Garrett!!!!!! He had talent on his roster and plenty of time. You must not have a clue about coaching if you think otherwise.

Campo had the worst team in history and Garrett sucked! Anything to build this clown up. Ridiculous! Garrett’s at the bottom of the list and it’s not even close. He got 10 years and failed miserably!

The only way I can compare those coaches is by comparing the talent and whether they maxed it out.

Switzer is a lot better HC than most give him credit for here but his prep of his team to go to SF cost them a 4 in a row record. But they did rebound to get that 3rd ring. Irvin gave Switzer a lot more credit than the media after that victory.

Campo inherited a mess but he was the least likely HC of those 6 guys and got the job because he was there and Booger knew he could control him and forced his coaching staff on him. He was barely a good DC.

The one I would put at the top would be Parcells and he had his worst record in Dallas, wonder why that was?

The only thing that connects them is the GM during all of their tenures and there was only one he was not allowed to screw with and did anyway.

How in the hell do you compare HC's when the job description reads 1. Do what the GM wants you to do. 2. See 1.

really its switzers fault that his best players ie MI fumbles twice and I cant remember was it a INt or smoothing that put the team in a 21-0 hole? how is the HOF Jimmy Players make those mistakes because of switzer LOL but its jimmy s 3rd SB trophy the next season not switzers..you cant have it both ways.. hypocrisy at its finest..

The worst was Garrett, those other 5 HC's, combined, didn't make in game mistakes to match his.

In all of the games I've watched, a considerable number, Garrett coached the worst Cowboys game ever in ATL when he was totally unprepared for a possible failing of his backup LT. It took him over a half to make any adjustments and that is just fundamental coaching 101 when you have a back up starting his first game. To make this worse, it was an away game against a team fighting for it's survival returning home, the single most dangerous opponent in the game.

He should have been fired on the field and given a bus ticket home.
