He and Marinelli did not work together.

Both are at fault. Glad they are both gone.

I was a big proponent and still a tentative fan, but am happy he wasn’t retained and look forward to seeing if he’s still got it elsewhere

I removed the sig back when McCarthy was hired, as should have. But Richard is the opposite of the Garrett effect. Fans loved him dearly because of his personality and were willing to overlook his results on the field.
You weren’t willing to overlook Garrett’s mistakes either it seems. And always seemed to defend everything he did by putting the blame on someone else. Which is ironic because that’s what Garrett did his whole career.
Go re watch all or nothing. And take note of how many times your favorite coach says “let’s keep doing what we are doing” “keep fighting” “we aren’t going to change”. Even when the team is getting the crap knocked out of them. That’s the definition of arrogance and stupidity. But he’s a great coach in your eyes right?

He was a good coach. And telling his team to be consistent isn’t a sign that he’s not, for the record. It’s just another nit in a long line of silly nitpicking.

Thought he was supposed to be the next head coach and savior to the secondary.

Is he still on the coaching staff?

It always shocks me that people start threads like this.

Dude. You are literally on the internet. This information is readily available. Are you too lazy to use google?

He was never as good as people here thought he was.

I asked multiple Seattle fan forums about him in 2018, and everyone was glad he was gone. I reported that here, and everyone told me Seattle fans must be wrong. Richard is so “energetic”. And “our fans said the same things about Zimmer”.

We know he is a good DB coach but he failed as a DC last year. It won't happen for a long time but I do think he will get a shot as a HC some day. A lot of times teams replace a cerebral guy with a firebreather (and vice versa), at some point I do think Richards will get his shot no matter what kind of trainwreck last season was. He is still only 40 years old and we don't really know what the story was around the defensive disconnect last year.

EDIT, yes I was one of his fans.
He taught his DBs to purposely NOT look for the ball but rather swipe at hands to try to force incompletions.

he’s not a good DB coach with that philosophy.

Is he still on the staff? Really? What kind of fan are you to not know if he's on the staff or not? FYI Jason Garrett is no longer here either and Tony Romo retired and is now in the broadcast booth.

Got to be weird taking calls in 2019 about head coaching vacancies to 2020 waiting for the phone to ring for any job in the NFL.

Not For Long applies to 99% of the people employed.

Created the #LegionOfBoom

Dominated Manning in the SuperBowl.

An elite coach.

He left us.

He didn't create the legion of boom. It wasn't made up of just safeties and corners.

Also, when he got more control, he was terrible and why Seattle was okay with letting him go. Why would they let some mastermind of a historic defense go? Spare me this myth.

Richard's success was tied to a specific technique that he believed in. Every scheme or technique has weak spots that can be exploited if the coach doesn't mix it up or adjust. While there were times when the defense added things that were effective, Richard was rigid in how he used his outside corners and safeties. Teams figured him out and the success he had the first year went away because he was a one-trick pony.

However, let me add that if you can't get consistent pressure on the quarterback any coverage scheme is going to unravel. So the failures up front added to the secondary scheme getting exposed.

Although Nolan plans to mix it up more, the key to how the secondary looks will depend on the ability to keep the quarterback uncomfortable. Press man is designed to make him hold the ball a tick longer to give the pressure a chance to get to him. If the pressure doesn't, then the receivers work loose and can find those holes in the defense.

I never bought into the KR hype to begin with. Credit for the success of the Seattle secondary almost all belongs to Pete Carroll. He's hands down one of the greatest secondary coaches ever. They've had a few good DC under Carroll, but as those guys have moved on it's only made it more evident how much of their success is owed directly to Carroll. As far as KR's time in Dallas, blame as much as you want on Marinelli, but the fact remains that the defensive backfield never lived up to expectations. Richard deserves no less than half the blame for that in his time in Dallas.

Naw, you have casual fans and I don't expect them to know if the guy calling the defense is still on the staff. If you are a casual fan I also don't expect you to be posting on a message board, there's nothing wrong with a casual fan not knowing if Richard was still here or not. Imo this board has been for the fans with more than a casual interest in the team so when I see someone ask a question like that it just makes me shake my head. It's also why I don't post here as much as I used to.
