Wade has taken championship caliber defenses to more SBs in last 5 years than Dallas has even sniffed in over 2 decades.

Bring him in as Defensive consultant for Nolan. Wade has had more productive defenses than Nolan and his wealth of knowledge and ability to get most out of front 7 would be invaluable.

Wade just wants to coach, does not care about titles. And one thing he knows better than most is rushing the passer.

Bring in Ware as his assistant would be icing on the cake.

No thanks.

If Mike Nolan doesn't work out, try to steal Gus Bradley from the Chargers.

I still think and NFL team with big pockets (sound familiar?) should try to lure Brent Venables from Clemson. With the NFL adopting college offensive strategies and concepts, I think Venables would be an ideal DC for an NFL team. Plus the guy is bat poop crazy and tough as nails.

I like Venables too, especially long term, but Wade could turn this D into top 10 overnight.

He has done it everywhere he's coached.

Most seems to be judging Nolan based on his stint with Atlanta, but he's been right up there with Wade in DVOA in several of his stops.

If Nolan fails, I certainly wouldn't mind bringing Phillips back. Frankly, I still feel that Jerry should have offered him a demotion to defensive coordinator when Garrett took over. I don't know if he would have taken it, but there was never any doubt about his DC ability, just his head coach skills, and we instead spent the Garrett years bringing in DCs who couldn't get the job done.

Wade has done more consistently but most importantly most recently.

Nolan is hit or miss. I notice this article is 3 years old but it does state that Nolan had the WORST defenses his years with Falcons, his last DC position. He was LB coach the last few years with Saints.

While Wade continuous to produce top defenses at EVERY stop. Pertinent quotes from your article below:

In Week 1, the Los Angeles Rams became the first team in NFL history to record two interception-return touchdowns and a safety in their season-opener. It was a big coming-out party for the new-look Rams and their 3-4 scheme, coordinated by one of the greatest assistant coaches in NFL history: Wade Phillips. Week 2 didn't go quite as swimmingly, but it's clear that Phillips has had a significant impact on the team -- and very quickly.

Here's a pretty good article from 2017 about the best defensive coordinators of the past 25 years. Phillips is No. 1 and Nolan No. 4.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...defensive-special-teams-coordinators-25-years

Leave it to Cowboys fans to prefer #4 over #1.

It's not a bad thing to want to be the best.

You article supports my stance quite nicely, tip of what to you!!

Nobody rebuilds a defense like Wade Phillips. His record is not just one of good defense, but of improved defense. He took the Falcons defense from 26th to 12th in 2001. He took the Chargers defense from 30th to 13th in 2003. And he took the Texans defense -- with some help from rookie J.J. Watt, of course -- from 31st to sixth in 2010. Then he took the Broncos to No. 1 in our defensive rankings in both 2015 and 2016.

Phillips' record as a head coach is not as bad as you think: 82-64, with five playoff appearances. But it is as a defensive coordinator that he is legendary. His ferocious pass rushes were part of playoff teams from San Diego to Dallas to Houston. In the greatest years of his career, he ran one of the greatest defenses in history for the Denver Broncos and dragged a depleted Peyton Manning to a Super Bowl title.

he is under contract still with rams>??
I too doubt he would come back to coach for jerry again.

He is not but let's move ahead with what we have. Plus like others have posted, why would he come back here after seeing Benedict Arnold get 10 years after undermining him and he only 4 years.

The falcons lacked talent on defense when Nolan was there.

His last season (2014) both off-ball LBs were 2nd year UDFAs.

Three of the better players went to IR that season.

They had some "name" players but almost all of them were out of the league within a year or two due to age.

The biggest problem with Wade is that he has personal connections to Jerry.

Stephen Jones has managed to push Garrett out the door and get a coaching staff with minimal previous ties to Jerry.

Even if Wade didn't intend to do it, his relationship with Jerry would undermine the Head Coach.

It does NOT matter anyway because the coaching staff is already set for 2020.

The wildcard is George Edwards. He was the DC of a top 5 defense in 2019. It appears he departed Minnesota because would always be under the shadow of Zimmer and it being "Zimmer's Defense". That defense was very well coached. I was reviewing the DE Griffen and the coaching/scheme was a big part of his success.

Coaches (and players) are not robots. There are relationships involved. McCarthy chose his staff and Phillips isn't part of it.

It would be a classic Jerry Move to tell him he has to add Wade to it.
It would be cool if they were real robots though
