You are out of touch- smh. What he’s asking for has nothing to do with where he was drafted as a result of His collegiate play. His asking price is based on his nfl performance, the QB market and future positioning as it relates to the cap in 4 years ( inflation).

Then Dak is out of touch. He simply is not the highest paid QB in history. He deserves a big fat pay day, though. I think he wants the chance to take a shorter deal and negotiate again. Dallas wants to spread his money out. I don’t think either side is wrong.

It's the way of the NFL, especially since the 2011 CBA where cap rollover became a thing.

You think Oliver Vernon was the best DE at the time in 2016? No, but the Giants made him the highest paid DE. Why? They had money to burn and wanted to sign him.

Jimmy Garoppolo became the highest paid QB, for a short time, in the NFL after 7 starts, 5 with the 49ers.

2021 cap ceiling may be an anomaly due to Covid, but the cap has always steadly risen every year. 2022 it may blow up due to the new TV contracts, and big giants like Amazon could even get into the bidding.

Dak may be the highest paid QB now, but in a few years or even months, Mahomes and Watson will surpass him. It's a meaningless thing to think about as almost every year another player takes that title.

So if it's the way what happens if Mahomes and Jackson signs an extension today?

Does Dak demand a larger contract tomorrow?

I think his asking price will go up. If Mahomes were to sign a 40mil AAV contract, it wouldn't shock me if France then tells the Jones duo they want more now.

It's hard though to know where they are at though. So much speculation and unbased rumors.
He may not be asking to be the highest paid, but wants 4 years. Maybe he does.

What we do know is France and Jones x2 aren't talking often about the deal.

It takes two to negotiate. Obvious that one side has no interest. Surely Dak's picked up on the hint that if you get no response after 18 months of pestering the front office.....

Garrett was Dak's biggest advocate in the organisation. With him gone, the chances of an extension are zero.

Further to your Garoppolo comment about being the highest paid player....just a bit of analysis compared to whom he deposed...

1) His guaranteed amount ($74m) is way lower than Stafford's ($92m)
2) After 3 years the 49's can release Garo for just $4.2 or after 4 years for $1.4 of Cap space
3) Interesting both utilised the Cap Space to frontload the contracts in the first year.....something we cant do with Dak.

To me Garoppollo sacrificed security for the headline of being the highest paid player.

49'er's take the early financial hit (possibly as they weren't convinced where Garop would succeed).

A lot more complicated than make Dak the highest paid player because its the way of the NFL.

All true, but the point I was responding to was that He simply is not the highest paid QB in history.
At one point Jimmy took that title.
A lot just look at AAV or total price, without taking into account the amount guaranteed, or signing bonus. Or how much cap space the team had to burn at that time. 49ers gave Jimmy a low signing bonus and his guaranteed base has now been given to him after this year is over.

Goff and Wentz took home a paltry amount of signing bonus compared to Wilson, even though their AAVs are only a few mil less than Wilson.

I don't think Dak will come close to the signing bonus of Wilson. Guaranteed money(base) sure.
To me Jimmy G got security(74mil is nothing to sneeze at) and money up front in terms of front loading the base early on. He started 7 games and got 74 guaranteed, while Stafford had been in the league much longer.

I'm not championing Dak to be the highest player, just cause. What I was saying is every year there is a new player at a position that resets that mark, even if they aren't better than the guy who eclipsed it the previous year.
And we may not even know if Dak wants to break the AAV mark or the total salary mark for a QB. It's just speculation now.
All I meant was worrying that someone may become the highest paid in terms of AAV is silly as the next year someone else will take that mantle. In 2018 the highest paid, on average, was 27.5 at one point. Last year the mark got reset to 35mil in Wilson.

Neither Wentz nor Goff eclipsed Wilson's 2019 deal??

The NFL way must have taken a year off.

The more this argument goes on the more i'm of the opinion that Dak (or his agents) ego is involved.

Who would play for $2m instead of the reported $33m (in 2019), knowing you'd never make that money up....oh yea the player who wasnt satisified with $33m, the player who wanted more that other 2016 draftees and get the highest AAV.

He'll get want he wants this year - being the highest paid player in the league, lets hope he takes advantage.

Does any of this really matter? Do any of us truly know what the offer is or isn't? The only thing I see and believe is that Dak wants a 4 year deal and Dallas wants a 5 year deal and until of them decides to give in then we wait (and wait and wait). Nothing any fan or media source have offered is nothing more than speculation (even the almighty Chris Simms (sarcasm)) or opinion.

All that really matters is what what Stephen and Jerry want and no matter the stats or what the stats say carries any weight what so ever. At least we know what the next big story on the site will be, it will be was Dak worth the money he signed a contract to get. Predicting 1000 new threads!

I just hate copy/paste.

You took it to a new level here.

I could not read the whole thing. I got a B-day coming up and wanted to not go into a holucinahenic trance trying to read it all.

I declare you have won the discussion on the basis that anybody who replies like this has to be right.

Right?

Otherwise why bother?

Right.

This theory is not to be used in murder charges, drug possession or income tax evasions defenses as outcomes may vary.

Fortunately for you, it was not meant for you. And to be clear, I didn't want to do this in the first place but it was not I who initiated this. I asked him to provide the post that he had issue with. The post that he took umbrage with. He was not forthcoming. So I had no choice but to address them all.

I did warn that nobody would want this but that comment was ignored.

You posted "all of that" but conveniently left off #215.....wonder why lol? Like I said above man if you don't get it...don't worry about it.

I told you why. That post was not to me. Didn't concern me, didn't concern our conversation. You wonder why? Sounds like your problem but by all means, why don't you expand on why.

Or are you just going to ride with, I'm stupid and don't get it? That's all you got?

You think the chance of Dak getting a new deal is zero?
I'd say 65% he gets a new deal and 35 he plays under the tag this year.
.001% that he doesn't play under any kind of deal.

I honestly don't know what the numbers may look like but I would say this, I think the wildcard here is probably McCarthy. I honestly don't know what he really thinks of Dak. If his opinion is high on him, that effects a lot IMO.

Yes, no offer will be made until the team sees how he performs this season.

Ok. Makes sense.
I'm leaning towards them getting it done--especially seeing that they used the exclusive tag vs non-exclusive. But Dak playing under the tag this season is not at all out of the question at all.
