Opinion: Dalton chose Dallas because he was told he had a shot to win the job

And if you're a 35+ million guy you overcome a bad defense and just make more plays. What does he think is going to happen when he's the highest paid? Defense will suck even more.

Why do you guys hate on Dak so much? It’s incredible. 4th round steal of the century yet his bar is so high. If he’s not Mahomes or Wilson he sucks. It’s crazy.

Since when did money matter? Dak was getting paid like 1 million a year for 4 years?

But I guess Dalton meets those high standards of yours eh?

not high or low standards

if “QBs don’t get you to SBs” and that’s the goal, then why waste money on an expensive one?

man, this is such a relief
We can just go with Dalton and save a ton of money

thanx man

That's a false statement. Believing in a player doesn't mean a team doesn't negotiate and try for the deal it thinks is best for the team.

Besides, from most reports the holdup in the contract is because the Cowboys believe in Dak so much they want to commit him to a 5-6 year deal instead of just 4 years.

True, true.

and the longer the contract the greater flexibility for the team.

We can then maybe spend a couple of $$ on defence prior to 2021 (or at least resign some of the FA's we'll lose)..

Reports are Dalton came here cause for basically the same money elsewhere he would be coming home to Texas. He played at TCU and from Houston.

Plus he didn’t really want to go to Jaguars and get beat out there. That wouldn’t enhance his opportunities next year.

And he’d have an opportunity to work with McCarthy. Along with an opportunity to look good in this star studded offense if he had any playing time due to injury or hold out. Which is better prospects than he really had anywhere else.

This rhetoric he was promised an opportunity to contend with Dak for starting role is absurd. Like Jerry’s going to make Dak one of if not the highest paid QB , then bench him. Lol

We've had no success with dak either. We got humiliated by a team that scored 3 points in the super bowl and then last year the eagles beat us with backups, spare me the dak shoulder injury bs because if it was that bad he woulda had an operation.
we have won in the playoffs. if not for incompetent coaching, should have played in the NFCCG. with Dalton you are almost guaranteed a loss in the playoffs....can't deny that

dak folded in the playoffs and win and you're in games as well.
which playoff game did he fold in? the one against GB? when he gave the lead to dallas with less than 2 minutes to go? is that the one? or the one that the Rams rushed for a record 278 yards at will? perhaps he should have played DB in the first one and DT in the second one...

Dalton has lost all 5 of his playoff games, I believe averaging around 12 or 13 points..woo hoo...stop the press....

the point is he hasn't been the $35 guy. 4 years ago he wasn't. he has grown into that....

but I guess having great coaching like he has, he wasted 4 years of garrett's regime...hmmm...

the other team in the playoffs with the goat scored 13. but lets conveniently not mention that....lets not forget how many points did Rams average during the year.....yeah, that's inconvenient as well.

It's not a 1 man game. Sure, Dak can play better at times, and sure good QBs can help a team overcome problems, but it's nonsense to suggest that a good QB can overcome all things at all times. People need to understand that the other players on the roster actually do impact wins and losses.

so if any QB doesn't make it to the superbowl in the first 4,5 years of their rookie contract, then they don't deserve a second contract?

don't you know Dak is the only QB who has ever had bad games....he is not allowed to have bad games. God knows, Brady has been perfect every game, every outing, so has Mahomes, Rodgers, Brees, etc...none of them have ever made a mistake or had bad games...

It will help if you actually try to follow what is being said before interjecting

Every year there should be a competition for starting jobs. I never like Garrett's country club attitude. Just put the most talent of the field.

He had a shot to win the job if Dak didn't show up.

This got me thinking about that actual scenario. And you have to applaud the FO for getting Dalton to sign by telling him that. Love the sell job. And great insurance job securing Dalton and leverage in the Dak negotiations.

Couple questions:

1. How many games do you think we could win if Dalton was our QB the entire year?

2. How much MORE is Dak better than Dalton, if at all, and how many more wins is Dak better than Dalton?
Dalton came here to be with he backup, hide on the bench in hopes teams forget how bad he is, and some team with a rookie 1st round QB gives him a descent signing bonus to be the bridge next season. Something no one was going to give him this year!

I mean I’m not arguing... the difference being that Aikman at least delivered with all of those guys around him. But yes, when free agency started whittling the team down Aikman didn’t do much with them.

He got 3 sb in 7 years. Barring a miracle dak will never repeat that and he's had a top back, line, and wr. Defense sucks but with the rules today it doesn't matter as much
