Opinion: Dalton chose Dallas because he was told he had a shot to win the job

I think Dalton really is an enigma. He clearly has all the physical tools and, at times looks like a high-level starter. Then, he'll have a sequence of plays that are just unacceptable for a veteran starter.

That sounds remarkably like Dak Prescott.

I don't know about that. I think Dak's greatest asset is how reliable he is. He's pretty much the same guy out there all the time. He doesn't seem to be fazed by anything. I think Dalton is mentally weaker but has better arm talent.

Almost as bad as paying $35 million per year for a QB that will yield similar results right? LOL
when did Dak score 10 points in the playoffs? as far as I know in the three games dallas scored 24, 22, 31
...but I guess we are rounding down to the nearest 10 LOL

the point is not to save money and feel happy. the point is to have a chance to win and compete.....with Dalton, you are guaranteed to lose in the first round scoring 10 points...woo hoo, awesome you saved a bunch of money...

and people like you be here complaining about everything under the sun on why we didn't win, you want McCarthy fired, you want moore fired, you want zeke fired, you want cooper fired, why didn't se sign a FA TE, etc....

He got 3 sb in 7 years. Barring a miracle dak will never repeat that and he's had a top back, line, and wr. Defense sucks but with the rules today it doesn't matter as much
outside of NE, who had the GOAT coach and probably GOAT QB, that kind of performance will be very very very very difficult to accomplish for any team. salary cap is making sure of that and that was its purpose.

Every year there should be a competition for starting jobs. I never like Garrett's country club attitude. Just put the most talent of the field.
That's nonsensical. The only way to do that is to have nothing but lesser talent, lower pay players because that's the only way to fit enough players under the salary cap that are able to compete for a position. In the real world, a team can't spend the money on 2 Zack Martin level players, 2 Tyron Smith level players and on and on. Teams have to make tough financial decisions to try and have even one high quality player at some positions, and they still fall short at some positions every year.

Do you really think Belichick was having open competitions for the jobs held by Brady, Gronkowski, Edlemen etc.

As for Dak, do you really think Rush was the better talent? Or even close enough to actually compete for the starting QB job?

we'll win 10+ games in 2020 with Dalton
we'll win 8+ games in 2020 with Dak

:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:
So which one is QB for the wins in the playoffs? There has to be some because you have us winning 18 games.

1. How many games do you think we could win if Dalton was our QB the entire year?

2. How much MORE is Dak better than Dalton, if at all, and how many more wins is Dak better than Dalton?

With Dalton, I think we go 11-5. He is good but not great.

Day has more mobility, but that's it. For accuracy and experience, I go with Dalton.

He had a shot to win the job if Dak didn't show up.

This got me thinking about that actual scenario. And you have to applaud the FO for getting Dalton to sign by telling him that. Love the sell job. And great insurance job securing Dalton and leverage in the Dak negotiations.

Couple questions:

1. How many games do you think we could win if Dalton was our QB the entire year?

2. How much MORE is Dak better than Dalton, if at all, and how many more wins is Dak better than Dalton?

I don't think they told him he was coming in to be a starter like some media outlets have presented it.

I think what they told him is, they have a number that is their top number, and if Dak doesn't sign, or possibly hold out... he is the starter.

If our offense is as good as it is on paper... I could see Dalton, and many other QBs thriving.

I don't even know how in many cases 1 of 4 to 5 potential targets wouldn't be open in many cases.

Lamb, Coop, Gallup, Jarwin, and potentially Pollard/Zeke on same play...

How in gods green earth is one of them not open?

Someone is getting doubled, most teams can not afford to single cover all these guys...

Dalton is a more aggressive passer, throwing in tighter windows... but he has often be forced into that pattern. I don't think it was always as bad as it has been there... Especially without Green.

Honestly think Dalton or Dak will excel with this talent. The problem is keeping the talent with some of the n umbers being thrown around for Dak.

11-5 with Dalton
9-7 or 8-8 with Dak.

One look at last year's games will confirm my above projections.
Dalton is a better passer than Dak from accuracy, pocket presence, intelligence, and so on.

I disagree. They're opposites.

Dalton has all the tools/ability, but underachieves.

Dak is an over achiever who has maximised his ability, but struggles to overcome a lack of natural ability in some areas.

Are you sure? All we've seen is speculation and rumor driven by Daks Agents publicist.

Well if Dak's representative discloses an offer from JJ doesn't that appear to be confirmation from both sides?

If there wasn't an offer surely the publicist would have outed the Cowboys to garner support for Dak?

Did it occur to you that he chose Dallas because he actually lives here? He does you know.

Dak does not have even the basic tools an NFL QB requires starting with accuracy and ending in pocket presence.
You put Dak on the Bengals the last 4 years they might win 3 games a season and if that....

I would disagree. It is the NFL. Money is not a true indication of talent. For years I have seen a cowboys team that doesn't care if they win or lose. I hope big mike changes this attitude. Not brining in talent to challenge the starting players was a mistake. A few key injuries or suspensions and the season was over.

Preseason will be fun to watch. If Dalton kills it then it may pressure Dak. Push him to get better or sign.

so you don't think the cowboys have offered Dak a contract? perhaps, we can ask Dallas cowboys to publish it on USAToday for your benefit!
