It was a mistake letting Garrett Go

I have been reading all the Dak threads and it seems that he is such an average QB, not talented and some even say he is not worthy of starting in this league and that QBs like him are dime a dozen and can be found anywhere, any time....so Garrett had done an outstanding job, by winning to NFC east titles and going 1-2 in the playoffs, being handicapped at the most important position on the team for the past 4 years....he must have not realized he has hit fools gold in 2016......

I guess we should have kept Garrett, given what he accomplished with such an average to below average QB...

The major handicap on this team for the last 10 years has been Garrett. He has not done an outstanding job. Otherwise, he would not have been let go.

We can debate the same crap forever, or choose to look forward to these players with the new regime.

The ONLY question I have moving forward is will Jerry stay out of things when he needs to.

Funny how THAT'S never debated.

there are 22 other starters, plus the others that play in games, and they all contribute.
Dak and JG had a lot of talent to work with on offense, so that is why they made the playoffs twice.
However both JG and dak were less than impressive in the playoffs.

only a few say dak is not a good qb, or he is avg. Dak is a decent qb, he just isnt worth a large % of the cap, most other qb's arent either.
Both goff and wentz were overpaid as many others were too.

me I am wondering what bellichek would do in this situation, and what he is going to do about qb in NE.
I dont see bill ever paying more than 10% on a qb. and for this year is 20 mil.

no they won't. some will continue to spin it...they will say it was McCarthy and all the talent on the team and anybody else could do it

btw, if we reach NFCCG, it would a miracle job by McCarthy.....not because of Dak or the players. its new coaches, new players, new scheme, crazy off season. teams with same coaching staff and scheme will be slightly ahead...

There's no established time limit, though after 2 years people might at least consider the notion that they were wrong... or they could keep hedging.

I know. But think about it. If Garrett would have been this good why did we still not win anything?

He wanted to protect Prescott but actually did the opposite.
For sure.

Dak was Garrett's meal ticket to greatness after Romo was injured.

Dak just did not respond well to Garrett's formulary. He had to work on his footwork, defense reading, his avoiding sacks..

having to shift from throwing short quick passes to deeper routes requiring holding the ball longer, etc.

Dak was fun to watch at times and agony at other times.

He was never really a top QB by lineage or training. He was a diamond in the rough.

He still is. But he now wants to be paid like he is The Hope Diamond.

Not.

I was a Garrett supporter on many fronts mainly because I didn’t believe we had better options with Jerry but it was obviously time to go for Jason.

The atmosphere had become entirely too toxic for Garrett to have any success. He had been given ample time.

And the fact Jerry actually finally brought in another proven experienced HC. I think while being suspect if McCarthy can over come Jerry’s ways it definitely provides for a renewed hope . At least until we see the results come in.
You spent years getting frustrated at fans wanting Jerry to make a change and intolerant of other people’s opinions on the matter. At least you admit you were wrong. Now we wait and see if you learn something from it or if you remain just as hard headed and intolerant on other issues in the future.

After 25 years of Jerry’s stubbornness except for the 4 years with Bill only cause he needed new Stadium and still meddled curtailing that situation wouldn’t necessarily say I was wrong. Lol

Jerry fought the Garrett decision all the way to the end when it was more than obvious a change was needed. I’d always argued he’d have to be forced to change . I figured a loss of revenue Or empty seats would be needed to force a change but in the end it was more about public opinion.

I’m not convinced Jerry has changed. He just brought in a more qualified HC. We’ll see how much has changed. Fans are just desperate to believe.

And I’d expect for me to be as hard headed as before:)

The irony is that some Garrett detractors in here are having more of a tough time letting Garrett go because they are bashing addicted. That's Garrett's fault  :D I was a Garrett supporter up to several years ago. It was time to make a change and the moves made by the organization as inspired and concocted by Mike McCarthy and his staff are welcomed and exciting.

Garrett and Dak should've been shipped together
so those two clowns managed to win 2 division titles and go 1-2 in the playoffs and take the great HOF Rodgers to the brink and one of his classic all time come back wins...what a bunch of clowns.

I’m really looking forward to see if all of our issues were coaching or could it have been possibly more about our talent or lack of it in certain areas.
What, really
Perhaps we need to define “ anything”.

No, we didn’t get back to the championship game which no Cowboys HC since 90’s has achieved.

But despite Garrett’s acclaimed coaching weaknesses and flaws we did win 3 division titles in 5 years which was best run in post 90’s Dynasty era. Which along with 2 playoff wins surpassed all of the previous HC’s cumulatively.

He also won Coach of the Year joining Landry and Johnson as only ones in Cowboy History and leaves with the second most wins in franchise. Not bad marks for being the worst coach . Lol
Garrett was weak, down to his core.
If you except that, than you obviously except mediocrity.

We haven’t had much choice the last 25 years with Jerry lowering the Bar becoming Apathetic fans.

Unless you were born and bred here I can’t imagine fans around the country flocking to this franchise.

This generation of Cowboy fans I see don’t take Cowboys football as serious as the last two generations who witnessed championships.

Didn't you just lobby for 10 years that Garrett didn't have enough talent?

And didn't you JUST claim yesterday that Garrett was a horrible game day coach?

I said we were a talent dependent franchise.

And Ive maintained Garrett has Game Day flaws. Basically his coaching wasn’t what I supported.

So if Garrett wasn't a good coach and the team didn't have enough talent for Garrett then you already answered your own question.

The problem has been both COACHING AND TALENT.

So you can stop pushing your agenda that coaching wasn't the ONLY problem.

And lets take one step ahead in your agenda...……………….EVERYONE knows that JERRY has been the #1 issue in Dallas since Jimmy left. No need to push that agenda. EVERYONE agrees.

Every year at the draft college players from all over the country hope they get drafted by one team. The Dallas Cowboys. They all want to wear The Star. They flock to the Cowboys just like regular fans do. Like my young son would say, it's still a thing.
