Because they have to find a role for him somewhere. Because he wears the suit on his coaches show and has the Princeton degree and conducts the "polished" press conferences, people think the front office would be better for him.

But yes, it's bizarre that he got such special treatment. No other coach has had people fall over themselves to create a role for him like Garrett.

Sometimes people just aren't very good and need to be fired all the way out of the organization.
Only jerry is to blame. His love and faith on garrrtt bordered on incestuous. And of course his ego which just couldn't admit he was wrong about his pet kitty.

Garrett.....wasted talent, ruined talent, did not know what to do with talent.

Only one head coach in the history of the Cowboys never won the NFC East, never made the playoffs, and left with a losing record.

Dave Campo after three seasons, 48 games, had 15 Ws and 33 Ls for a whopping .313%. Before him, Chan Gailey, had one NFC East title and two play-off appearances compiling an 18-14 record and a .563%. After him Bill Parcells had a 34-30 record, .531%, and two play-off berths.

Dave Campo is the only coach in Cowboy history with a losing record.
Campo was left with garbage.

Campo was left with garbage.

Bill Parcell's took Campos' 2002, 5-11 garbage to 10-6 and a play-off spot in 2003.
NFL always stands for Not For Losers in any case and there is no bigger loser in Cowboys history than Dave Campo.

Fun trivia fact: Gailey is the only Cowboys HC to have never missed the playoffs.

What made the Gailey era so maddening was that he often lost games by razor thin margins. He could have gone 11-5 and won the division in both years.

Campo won 15 games in three seasons, but he was 5-1 against the Commanders.
Living where I do, in the land of burgundy and gold, it was the one positive as a fan.

I think even he would say he was the worst head coach in Cowboys history.

Garrett and its not close. If Campo had the talent Jason had he’d have been in the playoffs. He was winning 5’games with D2 talent.

im sorry but calling all of them worst is wrong..putting all the coaches in order from good to bad would be beter and to all the garett hayters hes like what 2nd all time on the win list, I klnow hes no parcells or Jimmy landry etc etc
by far Campo was the wrost with Gaily a close second but Switzer just what he didn in college and hada a SB ring regardless of the sitaion he took over takes him off the list as well..

Truth be told in the All-time DC history we have less coahes then many teams and only have truly two that were BAD, is a positive not negative..

my list in order of best to last

Landry
Jimmy
parcells
Garett
Switzer
Phillips
Gaily
Campo

that all the coaches we've had since 1960 is crazy

No way would I put Garrett above Switzer. No way!

thats my list, not yours , stay in your lane brah ...lol

longevity winng% etc goes along way..JG was a lifelong DC player, coach etc regardless of his not getting a long playoff run he has a lot of wins and a solid win% so that why I gave him the nod over switzer who inherited a SB team..

While we’ve had one constant leading Cowboys Football since our last championship , we’ve had 6 different HC’s unable to take us back to a Super Bowl or even a championship appearance .

How would you rank them during this time frame.

Here’s my order of worst Cowboys HC during this stretch:
Campo
Switzer
Phillips
Gailey
Garrett
Parcells

Not sure how we could place anyone but Campo with the 3 straight 5-11 seasons on the bottom. And Switzer left a mess of the dynasty Jimmy built. Wade left a mess of the team Bill had built. Gailey could possibly be ranked 2nd above Garrett as he probably did as much as anyone with what he had left . Jerry even admits cut him loose too soon.

The reason I rank Garrett that high is based on his record , division titles and playoff wins which the latter two are more than the rest combined. Despite his coaching flaws and dysfunctional situation he helped steer our franchise in a better direction and has helped influence this roster in a greater position to contend.

One of the best measurement of coaching despite records is have you left the team in a better position than when you took over. There’s only 3 HC in Jerry’s era which meet that criteria. Jimmy, Bill and Jason.
Garrett.
He had so much talent and always found a way to choke. Phillips is second followed by Campo.
Campo had nothing to work with. No QB especially. Probably the lowest point in the Dallas Cowboys history for terrible moves, roster, QBs. I bet if he had players he would beat a Jason Garrett coached team.

We’re fixing to find out if it was more about our coaching than talent. Looking forward to it.

Campo was the worst coach in Cowboys history, but it's hard to say for sure since the talent when he was here was awful. For two of his three seasons we did not have a first round pick.

Parcells arrived in 2003 and turned the team around, but he also had a stellar draft (Terence Newman, Jason Witten, Bradie James) and some veteran arrivals like Terry Glenn to help him. Having said that, Campo was not a great leader and was born to be an assistant coach, not the man in charge.

Garrett is a close second for winning a grand total of two playoff games with some pretty loaded rosters; especially in 2014 and 2016.
