This whole thing should have been done after JJ saw enough. But if the stories are right and 33 was on the table last year and Daks agent turned it down after the first 3 games we dominated then I don’t blame JJ for not offering again. I would have offered around the same as goff who went to a SB. But not as much as Wilson who went twice and won 1. Had he simply handed the ball off then he would have 2 rings. Who’s decision was that. Idiots..

PAPPY, Prescott is just not as bad or good as the sides takers here have him.

You'd think after the Romo experience we would have learned but nope, right back here again.

Prescott is not a bad QB nor is he a great QB, he is a good QB that's going to get paid like a great one.

2 years I've been reading here about how he is going to get paid.
44 days from now we shall know.......but hold a small cup bud as the FO isn't buying his bag of goods!

Ehhh. Not really buying it. Goff and Wentz were extended early while Dallas was toying around with “honest offers”. I can’t blame them entirely since 2018 was a tale of 2 seasons, but the opportunity was there and approached in relative bad faith. And now it’s bit the team in the butt.
Exactly. And there is benefit to the team when extensions are agreed on with time still on the rookie contract because it allows the team to spread the cap hit over a longer time period, but the Rams and Eagles were more aggressive and got their QB's signed to an extension while they still had time on their rookie contracts, and the Cowboys were more cautious.

And, in fairness, there were a lot of fans who wanted the Cowboys to be more cautious and watch Dak another year before deciding on signing him. Now fans are complaining about the result of that - that the Cowboys don't have the extra years to spread the cap hit over like the Rams and Eagles. But that is the bed the Cowboys made, and many fans asked them to make. But, there is almost always more to consider than what fans think of, and this is the kind of long term affect that fans often don't realize when they decide how things should be done.

First most know im a big Dak fan so you're not going to get anything that's personally negative on my end about him. If thats what ur looking for just stop reading and go to the next thread.

Saying that, i have to say im disappointed in his representation going all the way back to last yr. From what was reported by the team, they had a deal in place at 33 mil AAV. Then Dak torched them 3 first teams that were bad. And whats being reported is Dak's reps went back and wanted to go back to the table. That's not negotiating in good faith. So IMO Dak's side is the reason this has gone on for so long.

But there has been alot of false reporting that both sides has said just isnt tru, like them asking for 40mil AAV or that if there was a 5th yr that the floor would be 45mil for that yr.

I can see both sides to this. Dak has outplayed Wentz and Goff so IMO he def deserves to be paid more then both of them. And i think its safe to say he's been on par with Wilson who is at 35mil AAV. And i think you can say Dak's side is justified by asking a little more because of the age gap. Where Wilson has peaked Dak is still getting better. And now with a competent coaching staff to guide him, you can further assume he's only going to get better. So that 35.5mil AAV sounds about right given the QB market. Now i think all QBs are overpaid and i dont think no player is worth that much money. But the market is what it is.

I can also see Dallas' point in wanting a longer deal to spread the money out over more yrs to keep players on the team who would otherwise get cut because of the cap. I know why Dak's agent is pushing for that shorter deal and thats because of the impending new TV deal and the added game(s) to the season. But looking back at history of the team and its franchise QBs, the team puts them first and takes care of them before anybody else when moneys tight. WE saw this 3 times with Romo, and we saw this with Aikman. All the way down to the end of their careers. They put a emphasis to take care of them so much that the retired with dead money owed to them. So i dont really understand Francis' stance on being so firm on the yr thing.

There's a saying, that you never bite the hand that feeds you. The one thats going to lose in all of this is Dak. A strained relationship with the team, while his agent is trying to prove a point for current and future clients. Then if it keeps dragging on how will his teammates see it? I know some have already gotten paid but if you really look at their deals and put the whole structure into context. They all ended up taking less so the team could keep them together. You look at Lawrence's deal and he can be cut after this yr or restructured to lower the cap Elliot has been paid a big chunk of his guaranteed money and can also be cut or restructured. Jaylon Smith deal is very team friendly, probably on par with how Tyron Smiths deal was. Coopers deal is basically a 2 yr 40mil deal, but they will most likely restructure aswell since he's so young.

i get the feeling that Dak's agent is not really allowing him to speak with the team. This is a good agent doing his job for his client. Its not good for the team and fans. And im sure the team isnt pushing a point to speak directly with Dak at this point in time as it would def strain the relationship between team and agent. But i can guarantee you as it gets closer to the deadline that line will be crossed by the team and a deal will get done.
Don’t sweat it Latin. I cannot imagine Dak turning down 110 million guaranteed even with his agent in his ear. Supposedly his shoulder was hurt more then he let on at the end of the season, that during the Super Bowl he still had issues with it. He risked it last year but know insurance policy is going to cover 100 million. This will get done similar to DLaw and Dez.

yup. Basically. That’s also why I assume the FO is balking at the 4 yr deal, not necessarily because they’re opposed to it at face value, but because it really limits the ability to manipulate the cap. We’ve really only seen 3 three of these situations in recent past: Wilson, Dak and Cousins.

Russ was fresh off a SB win and back to appearances and didn’t have many other deals to compete with as A rods large deal was more than 2 yrs old.

Cousins really had a weird resume and it’s the skins.

Now Dak and his warts and a litany of mega deals (and looming mega deals)

it’s difficult.

I am disappointed too, but lets be honest...……………….we really don't know what has happened or what will happen. I am waiting until this thing plays out to judge any further.

I wonder if it matters to Dak if he's paid as the QB of the Cowboys or a team like Jacksonville. Because this has all the makings of a Kirk Cousins situation and he must realize the real possibilities of him playing hardball.

Negotiating positions *should* change as information comes in. Dak's accuracy was much better last season. Once he proved it on the field, his demonstrated value went up, so the price goes up. If Dak broke both his legs, Jerry's offer would have gone down too.

agree but this guy needs to be doing his homework with coaches learning the new things McCarthys offense is going to do. Especially with no physical time. Maybe he should've kept his intentions private instead of letting the world know he wouldnt be participating in any OTAs physical or virtual. This is the one thing i dont like about Dak, when theres a mic in his face he going to talk.

If Dak wouldve performed the same in games vs the Saints, Patriots, Bills. Bears. Then i dont think there would be any issues IMO. But in those games Dak was not good. The scrutiny is there to be discussed. And its valid, even being as big a fan of his that i am. I know them flaws are there. I still think he deserves to be paid over what Wentz and Goff got. The money isnt even the issue, its the yrs. And i side with the team on this issue 500%.

Dak has not done one single thing in his entire career to make one believe that he’s not doing all he can to be ready once they get to training camp.

Those games you mentioned showed fans what Dak's true ability is.
A quarterback has to be special to be worth top money. Dak showed he isn't special.
He's average at his best.
He is not the guy who will make the Cowboys better.

I dont see it as not negotiating in good faith by turning down the 33m. They waited to right before the season to up to that and Dak started of great. Why wouldnt the agent up the price? The Cowboys were the ones who let get that far. They could have ended it months earlier. Why did it take them to sept to get up to 33m?

After Wentz signed in May at 32m, they knew it was going to be north of that. Then they waited until Goff got his 33.5. They let Wilson set the market and Goff and Wentz sign under that market before they came up to 33m. The last day of the season, even before the playoff game vs Sea, the top contract was 33.5m and they could have made him an offer that day for 33m. Most think they could have offered him 30-32 and ended it there, but 33m would have got it done since it was almost done for that in sept. Then they would be fine right now. Would have got a a extra year to spread it out and paying less than they are about to. Even in May of that year his counter offer was 34m. Once Wentz signed, bit the bullet and give the 34m and end it. They are to worried about getting players to take a team friendly deal and they are horrible at seeing future markets. And to add one more thing, in Aug the Cowboys leaked false info that Dak was asking for 40m and you expect the agent to operate in good faith a month later and sign a deal that they ALMOST agreed on before his client had a great first 3 games?

As far as how the players will see it. They will see just like they saw it when they went through the same thing, get your money. Dlaw was tagged and couldnt get deal worked out. Was tagged again and had to threaten to hold out and put off surgery until he got his deal. Elliot got paid 2 years early and held out to do it. Both of those players got top $ at their position, so Im not sure what you mean about taking less. Less than they could get on the open market? Sure, thats with just about every good/great player. The deals are structured nice, but thats the one thing the FO is good at. Cash is more important than cap and the Cowboys have more of that than any other team. Cash makes it easy to manipulate the cap. They will do the same with Dak contract. As far as Jaylon, LOL of course he took a team friendly deal. They offered him top 5 money after 22 starts and not all those 22 starts were impressive. He was going to be a RFA so no reason for him not sign that deal. They could have got Copper cheaper last year too and actually save cap space that they could have rolled over to this year. But they let him hit the market and he came back when the Cowboys uped their offer and he took less to stay. But they still cluster that negotiation also. Hell, Martin is the best G in football, maybe the best OL in football, and he had issues getting paid. He had to cut off negotiations before the 17 season because they couldnt get it done and he didnt want to deal with it during the season. Then he had to hold out of OTAs to finally get it done. Took over a year for him to get his deal. Took over a year for Dlaw. What did they do to get it done? Hold out or threaten to hold out. What did zeke do to get his 2 years early? Hold out. What did Dez do? Hold out. The Cowboys have set a bad precedence and Dak and his agent are handling this perfectly.

Those games you mentioned showed fans what Dak's true ability is.
A quarterback has to be special to be worth top money. Dak showed he isn't special.
He's average at his best.
He is not the guy who will make the Cowboys better.
oh shut up.

maybe big mike doesn't want to be stuck with him for his career here at Dallas. Tag him, if he doesn't move on. Dalton can go 8-8 or better with this team.
I'm tired of a good quarterback thinking he's great.

This. I don't understand the rush to sign the multi year contract with so many questions still swirling. Some fans love Dak, some hate dak, some are on the fence. Some 'media' experts have him top 3 QB, others put him well down the pecking order. With the majority agreeing that he is 'somewhere' in that middle range of 6th to 14th best QB in the league. We have great statistics across the board but the 'eye test' points to more issues than the stats reveal. The capitulation at the end of last season and five years in the job without significant silverware is concerning.

Dak is at the end of a five year stint as starter of this team. Five years with the best (or at the least top three) OLine and RB in the league.. five years with a solid WR corp and widely considered 'strong' team.. and yet one playoff win and not even a trip to conference game.

The dude is not 'young' anymore.. he is not a rookie.. he is now entering what will become his prime production years. There are still a lot of questions. How much with the change of coach help? Can he get his footwork right? Will he learn to beat top teams?

WIth all that going on.. I don't see why you have to sign the big deal this year. Put him on the tag, play him on the tag (or let him sit and put Dalton in).. and then get a better idea towards the end of this season as to where he sits. I see no value in signing him to a long term deal that could blow up in our faces right now. None.
