I'm shocked at the responses. Inconsistent defense, worst special teams, horrible kicker management, bad HC and coaching staff last year and still went 8-8.

Clearly this is a much improved team. They should have went 10-6 last year if The Clapper changes kickers before it cost them at least 2 games.

Yes the Cowboys are a top 5 NFC team.

You left out the part about Dak having a poor season. And don't even throw out that he had great stats last year. Dak said himself that he knows most of his stats came in garbage time..

Aldon Smith is up first.

Bite a piece of this off.

Chew well..

Swallow..

1-2-3

We lost too many pieces to automatically say we are a top 5 team. If this were the season following 2016, I'd understand such assumptions. But when we didn't even make the playoffs, I think we have to earn Top Five instead of some random fan declaring we are it at the start of the season.

Only NFC teams I am confident we will have a better record than:
Panthers, NYG, Wash, Lions, and Rams

Not after last season, which is what we have to go by... On paper? We would be... but we see how paper and reality don't mix often.

I'd say yes. I see starting a little rough but finishing at 11-5.

No, right now they’re still an 8-8 team that has a new coach who’s last 2 seasons in the league were sub .500, they lost one of their best O lineman along with their best corner and sack leader. Lots of high hopes with new additions but also a lot of question marks.
We will be fine. Fredbeard wasn’t the same last year anyways. Part of the reason we were 8-8.

Along with the WORST ST we have ever had. That could have and should have been changed by the bye week. But JG saw fit to leave it alone for a while longer. That kicker and ST coach should have fired and we all know it. This phase of the game cost us at least 2 games. Or parts of loses of many.

Marinelli and his prevent Defense killed us forever. Including a playoff game against the packers. And the rams playoff game. His style just doesn’t work any more. No attention to the DT. Now we have a few DT, they are older but is going to clog that middle and push. Leave these LB clean. And some additions to DE. Gregory will contribute and Aldon could end up being better than the player we lost..

Dak could have done better in some games but over all played pretty well. I expect him to improve some and be more comfortable.

We should have the same or a improved O-Line. Depth we haven’t had in a while. A new shiny WR along with Gallup who should be even better and Cooper who will be healthy and is paid. Elliot should be healthy and not holding out, I know he is your favorite player. I am actually paying special attention to him this year. When can we cut him with minimal damage to the cap. Time to produce as a high paid level.

I love being an underdog. Cowboys have a new coach they lost their two best defensive players, Dak doesn't have a contract is what the media is talking about on not being a contender.

The reality? They replaced a dysfunctional coaching staff that held them back. Their all-pro CB they lost covered the opposing team's receiver #1 receiver 1/3 of the time and had 2 career Ints. Quinn may be a loss but was a 1 year rental that produced his best season in 5 years and was not a good run defender. Dak deal is likely to get done, but if it pushes into the season they have a very capable backup who's probably playing with the best talent he has in his career.

Mateys, there is no other team that, season after season after season gets so hyped up after a first-round pick. And now a new coach. Our defence is suspect, chaps, our RB is fat and no matter how good we think we are, we are proverbial 8-8 teams. Give it 4 years and maybe the other 7 better teams will fall by the way.

Funny you bring up that Packer game, that game is one of the many reasons I’m skeptical of MM. They were dominating us and MM took his foot off the gas and started playing more conservative which allowed us back in the game. I definitely think that game ended up closer than it should have been due to their coaching, not ours.

Not to mention, how often Romo allegedly audibled or changed plays without JG’s approval and we know for a fact that AR and MM had issues with each other and that Rodgers literally drew up the final play in the huddle that went to Allison and ended up being the nail in the coffin. As I’ve said before, how many of GB’s victories were due to Favre and Rodgers vs coaching? I’m not a Dak basher but AR and Favre are two future HOF QB’s that may have made MM seem a lot better than he is.

Obviously it’s just speculation and I hope that’s not the case but it’s a legitimate concern.

Don’t get the Green Bay love. They lost some really good players and did nothing to help themselves in 2020 with draft picks.

They will go 0-16 and never win a game again. I think that was negative enough...

Jerry got it put in just for dallas. Lol they're better get in.
This is twisted but probably right.

Jerrah probably does think..

"If we had had one more game to play we would have got it!"

That sounds just like him.

In reality, if Jerrah had just fired Garrett before 2019..

We would have gotten in also.

This ain't rocket science.

I prefer it when we are underdogs.

Teams under estimate us.

Which let's us shake out kinks and get our identity get defined.

I am very much interested in seeing how our identity comes out.

Historically speaking, yes. However, there are no top 5 NFC teams right now. Every team is 0 - 0 until the season starts.

Win/loss records don't carry over from one season to the next. 8-8 does not define the Cowboys at this time. They have had a hell of an offseason that can not be ignored when defining what the Cowboys are at this moment. We can not definitively say what the Cowboys are right now but we have extremely good reason to be hopeful. They are certainly better than they were last year.

Yep, depending on practice time with covid-19 it may take some time for this team to get rolling. Wouldn't be surprised to see us start 2-2 and then win 9 or 10 of the next 12 to finish 11-5 or 12-4. But we'll see.
