You left out the part about Dak having a poor season. And don't even throw out that he had great stats last year. Dak said himself that he knows most of his stats came in garbage time..

All QB's pad stats in garbage time.

We lost too many pieces to automatically say we are a top 5 team. If this were the season following 2016, I'd understand such assumptions. But when we didn't even make the playoffs, I think we have to earn Top Five instead of some random fan declaring we are it at the start of the season.

BJones and Frederick are the only big pieces lost.

If coaching was the reason this super-talented scoring machine only made the playoffs 2 of the last 4 years then surely trading the fan-hated coach and bringing in a Superbowl winning head coach means this team is shooting straight to the top, if not this year then next. Superbowl or bust.

Win/loss records don't carry over from one season to the next. 8-8 does not define the Cowboys at this time. They have had a hell of an offseason that can not be ignored when defining what the Cowboys are at this moment. We can not definitively say what the Cowboys are right now but we have extremely good reason to be hopeful. They are certainly better than they were last year.
It’s all on paper my friend, all on paper. If W’s and L’s don’t carry over then why bring up McCarthy’s record vs Jason Garrett’s (not saying you personally). Every year I hear how great this team is supposed to be the following year for one reason or another and the Cowboys consistently rule the NFL as “next seasons” champs through media and fan hype.

How do we know they are better than last year? Zeke looked good last year but has declined slightly every year. The O line is older, we lost our best corner and don’t know how his replacement will be. We also lost our sack leader and have two wild cards to try and match his production. LVE and Jaylon weren’t looking too hot even when LVE was healthy. TE is a pretty big unknown and even coaching is an unknown. I’d say the only area of definitive improvement will be the receiving group and interior line but there are other areas we have just as many negative concerns.

I’m mildly optimistic but I’m taking all of this with a grain of salt until proven otherwise.

I dont care what SAS or any guest of his says and I dont care in general about meaningless rankings, play the games and we will all find out. Until then anything on tv is just to occupy you so they can sell ads based on your eyeball count

p.s. yes they are top 5

Not sure the Cowboys are top 5 but I'm feeling confident that the Bucs are not going to live up to the hype. The GOAT showed signs of age last year, he's 43, and the Bucs defense isn't scary. As we see on this board, people are enamored with offense and names, then they'll be puzzled when the Bucs fall short.

I'll believe the Cowboys are top 5 when I see them play. Dak this, Cee Dee that, some of you think offense is all that matters. It's not.

Stephen A lol....really wants to make me throw up!
Anyway, the defense can hold its own if we manage to have a formidable passing game and score TD instead of Field goals against good defenses we are a Top 5 team in the NFC.

I like Smith.

I get him. For him it's all about the controversy and the viewers.

I have no problem with him. He's like Johnny Carson.

Coaching should be an upgrade otherwise I dont see anymore upgrades. They could be around top 5-8ish.

There's too much ground to be made up before I'd wisely assume we'll be that good in one year. Let's just allow due time to develop!

I think it's too early to tell if we can earn top 5 status or not, but 2 of the 3 guys on that film clip were just Cowboy haters and failed to impress me at all. I think we're going to have a good team this year whether we break into the top 5 or not, and unlike those 2 Cowboy haters I think the eagles better brace themselves because the Cowboys are going to pluck your tail feathers!

Mateys, there is no other team that, season after season after season gets so hyped up after a first-round pick. And now a new coach. Our defence is suspect, chaps, our RB is fat and no matter how good we think we are, we are proverbial 8-8 teams. Give it 4 years and maybe the other 7 better teams will fall by the way.

Hey matey hold onto your bow tie because I think the Cowboys are going to leave that ^ opinion in the dust.
Garrett was an 8-8 coach but he's history and McCarthy's not going to settle for such mediocrity. He's already filled the weak spots that Garrett was willing to tolerate.
We might be a little slow coming out of the starting gate this year, but we're going to pick up steam as we go. Bank on it.
