WAR is typically used for baseball, but takes into account the subject player compared to a baseline(average) player at that position, and then calculates how many additional W's a player added over a span of time. The player and the value of the position are both taken into account.

I really couldn't imagine hating on any of these guys while they were/are here.

Witten is at worst #2.

Ware not on this list, wow.
Lol no. Written? Sorry not even close the last 4 years.

feel like he is high in these lists because people like him and think he’s a great guy.
WAR is a counting stat. Witten's on it because he was there for the whole decade (well, almost). Ware isn't because he was only there for a few years of the decade. It's an arbitrary time period, which makes for an arbitrary list.

That's 4 years. Prescott has only played 4 years, Jones played 5.

That's why Witten should be higher, he played the entire decade.
Seems like longevity is why Witten is even as high as he is though. If he was there 4 or 5 years he probably wouldn't have been. I think its only so much effect a tight end can have on the game. A tight end like Witten anyway. George Kittle and Travis Kelce type guys are asked to be more than tight ends.

Well this is the thing about that. The same argument people used for Romo before him and Ware before him. We won nothing with them......can only improve from here.
But those are dumb arguments "people used", so why would we haul them out here?

Go back to the early part of the decade and PFF had Witten the #1 TE three years in a row, and in the top 5 for most of the decade. He was the top blocking TE. He was the best all around TE in the game.

That was the discussion, who is best Gonzalez, Gates, or Witten. Witten always won because he was the better blocker. Looking back now, all three will be in the HOF.

Earlier in his career, Witten was a fundamental part of the success of the offense. He was a chain mover and an excellent relief valve for the QB. He probably kept more drives alive than any player other than the QB.

Right, in 2012, he had his highest reception year (110). He began to slide after that but still had 851 receiving yards the next year and eight TDs, and average 11.7 and 11.0 yards per catch in 2013 and 2014. Some act like he hasn't been good for a decade, but he was at the top of his game entering the 2010s. We don't need to let the past four years tarnish how important he had been to this team. Dallas did a poor job replacing him when it was time for someone else to take the lead role.

Because its true. Why would I rue about Byron Jones? Or Romo? Or Ware? I loved all 3 and that won't change. But I won nothing with them so what exactly am I missing? Their Pro Bowl visits?
