Will Games Without Fans Reduce Home Field Advantage?

I do think if they're going to try this without fans that they suspend the language filter and rules and we get to hear them trash talk and cuss each other out. That would add a little to the game with some well placed "Yo Mama's".

XFL was cool with being able to hear coaches, and listen to the review booth. I would actually like the NFL to do that. But, we have to have 750 commercial breaks during NFL games.
But, they could bring it back as a picture in picture sort of deal after the break so we can hear what was said during the 15 commercials.

I gotta know....... if there are no fans in the stands to watch the games, will Zeke still do his stupid moronic 'feed me' routine?
It will still be on TV with triple the people watching. He will do it after he loses a yard.

I am not a big fan of the feed me but I do love me some Zeke.

Home field advantage will still matter. It's taxing to travel to your opponent, not sleep in your own bed, and then be expected to perform at your best. It's so much better to not have to endure that travel, to sleep in your own bed. This is when you should be at your best.

Yeah my only fear is that the NFL views itself as so woke and self righteous that they feel they know better than the individual states and make a league rule!
I think they will abide by state rules. Aside from New York I think by August or September they will be fully opened but use precautions or half capacity. Not sure if its a good idea or not but I think they will..

Anyone link the Forbes story on stadium revenue?

I’ve been to one game in the new stadium.

The sound meter on the video board helped tremendously, but it wasn’t used enough.

That's how I feel. 3 months away. I can see it being filled up. Either way fans or no fans I feel we haven't had home field advantage in years lol
We seem to be doing a little better but I don’t think teams fear playing us at home..

A big part of home field advantage is the fans. The 12th man has done a lot for Seattle. Home field has never been a big advantage for the Cowboys. I believe it was two or three years ago we were just barely over 500 at home since the stadium opened in 2009. We struggled at home so bad one season many were pulling for a road playoff game. We were winning on the road but losing at home. Two of the best teams the Cowboys have had since the 90s the 2007 and 2016 teams that were number one seeds both went one and done at home.

If the season is held with no fans in the stands, one might expect the biggest on-the-field effect to be a reduction in home-field advantage. Over the last five years, home teams have gone...

2015: .539
2016: .579
2017: .566
2018: .602
2019: .518

Interesting: HFA was way down last year. I'd expect it to look more like last year's .518 than the usual higher numbers. And of course teams like Seattle that enjoy substantial noise-related benefits in home games may get hurt worse.

Conveniently, Dallas goes to Seattle week 3. Could be a substantial advantage (or lack of disadvantage) to have empty stadiums through that game.

first off the Governor of TX already stated that as of right now sports teams are allowed 25% of available seating. by the time September gets here that could be 50% or more.. there will be fans for the nfl..other pro sports have decided as of now to go no fans but I believe that wont be an issue and well cold climate weather, travel, and simply not playing in you home stadium will still have some effect..

so if Texas allows fans and other states do not that could be home field advantage , if the league allows it ..

Fans or no fans securing home-field advantage for the biggest games might not be as meaningful as it once was. Ask the fans in New Orleans, Philly and Foxborough, Mass., following the first round of the NFL playoffs.

Or the baseball fans in Houston and Washington during the World Series last October.

The last five games of the NBA finals last summer were won on the road. The last Stanley Cup champion to clinch at home? Your 2015 Chicago Blackhawks.

Will Seattle still pump crowd noise through the PA if there are no crowds?

Did you ever consider that the stadium was built exactly for fans to have the most amazing experience Rather than making the biggest impact on the team on the field?

It is an incredible stadium and an incredible experience, however it doesn’t setup to make other teams uncomfortable which is the issue

Fans?

Whose fans?

Yes, it's a great experience... for opponent fans.

It was so lavishly built that it has become a tourist attraction.....meaning that it provides further incentive for opponent fans to attend.

It even caters to opponent fans. When you go to AT&T you can order a Philly Cheesesteak, New York style pizza,.....

I don't have the stats but I suspect that the Cowboys are, far and above, leading the NFL in opponent fan percentage.

That was Jerry's plan, just another example how making money is more important than winning. And, no, that's not okay just because it is a business. That business was given to Jerry Jones and given city support on the premise that the owners recognized the special relationship between the teams, their cities, and their fans. That was based on the owner's commitment to winning.

During the entire time the Cowboys played at Texas Stadium, they were ranked 12th in homefield advantage.

For Dallas, HFA also includes having the visiting team sit in the sun during the hottest part of the day. ;)
