So what do we think the extra $7 million will be used for?

They could've taken the entire hit this year but chose to spread it over two years. Meaning the Cowboys intentionally wanted to add more money to this year's roster.

From what I've read, they were already $4 million below. So they have $11 million and the rookies to sign. But can also add more money very easily.

Hopefully this means a decent signing is still to come.

Most likely its part of the reserve they like to keep during the year for potential injury replacements.

I'm probably the only one but I'd rather roll with the RDE's we have instead of overpaying for a guy like Clowney.

Who else would they spend money on? Eric Berry if he is healthy?

I think they are set. Current cap space remaining will be for rookies, emergencies, and then carried over. I don’t see them thinking they need any big additions. The exception might be a safety that unexpectedly becomes available.

I agree on Clowney. He strikes me as .. well … a clown. He's a good player, but not the kind of player he thinks he is. If we wanted a free agent DE I would rather go with Everson Griffen on a short term deal. I'm actually anxious to see Aldon Smith, although it may be wishful thinking to expect too much after all the time he has missed.

I don't see Eric Berry as an option. He's been available the last couple of years, and to my knowledge has had no serious suitors. I suspect there is a good reason for that.

Same. I expect Randy Gregory back also, I would rather sort out the competition between Aldon Smith, Gregory, Anae, Dorance Armstrong, Jelks, etc.

Hoping to sign Jadaveon Clowney (cut Crawford) and/or trade for Jamal Adams.

Defense needs more disruptors.

Cannot believe the lack of appreciation for how Clowney can just take over games, even when offenses are keyed against him. Sacks are nice but need to look deeper into his impact vs. both pass and run, Clowney is a takeaway artist.

There is no player on Cowboys as freakishly explosive as Clowney.

Lawrence is better than the clown.

Plus even if Berry was healthy he would not cost alot.

They should try and re-sign Jourdain Lewis right now. Dudes on a rookie deal and could offer him a cap friendly deal early. I don’t want to lose a playmaker like him.

That was a total WAG on my part, not saying it will happen. IIRC when Berry visited Dallas some of the articles said he was still asking for a ton of money. I wouldn't do that obviously but if they gave him an incentive based contract it would make sense. He would have to earn his money but the "likely to be earned" incentives would have to be available in the current year's salary cap for Dallas. Then if he didn't earn them the money would roll over into the next year. If he did earn them, Dallas would be happy to pay it for an above average Safety.

That said, it will never happen and I just trying to dream up some scenario where Dallas spends more cap room before training camp. I highly doubt they actually will.
