Michael wouldn't say this unless the sentiment was already prevailing amongst past and current players.

This is a new Era!!

There are bigger things than Football going on.

NFL teams that don't aggressively act like they know and recognize the new normal will lose not only $$$ but a significant size of fanbase..

I honestly don't see this. The popularity of the NFL, IMO, isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Attendance might be down in the short term but Football is king.

Cowboys owe him nothing, they offerred him a deal (more than he was worth if you ask me) before the start of the 2019 season that was right in line (if not a little more) than what Goff and Wentz signed for. Dak and his agents turned it down. That was their choice the Cowboys made him a fair offer after his 3rd season. What happens now (new deal or tag) falls squarely on Dak's shoulders

Absolutely correct!

Dak turned down his back pay!

He got paid the scale of where he was drafted. Like every other player. He is welcome to sign his contract that’s offered right now and likely be the highest paid QB in the NFL. Until mahomes gets paid.

Michael Irvin says Cowboys owe Dak Prescott 'back pay' for 'stealing' four years of his career

In other words, Irvin is firmly of the belief that Dallas needs to pony up the dough.

Not literally, but figuratively he is right. Been playing for 4 years for way under Market. Could have gotten hurt in any of those 4 years and ended his career before he made diddly with his salary.

I don’t fault Dak for his contract demands. He has every right to get everything he can. On the flip side, there’s no such thing as backpay. He agreed to the contract when he entered the draft.
I understand what you are saying, but this is an unfair take as rookie contracts are slotted. He had no choice but really to agree or not play in the NFL which is kind of ridiculous alternative.

He played that 4th year with a low salary of his own choice. The Cowboys did reportedly offer him a deal in the 32-24m range (along the lines of Goff and Wentz) after his 3rd season, he turned it down so that 4th season is on him

Just a quick comparison on what you get paid as a Cowboys QB. Andy Dalton, who arguably had as good or better first 4 years than Dak earned 1 million in endorsements in 2015- directly after that successful run.

Dak Prescott makes a reported 50 million in endorsements after his successful 4 year run.....

So, back pay some of that Mike! Dak should be thanking his lucky stars!

it was the older players that sold out the younger players. Old guys said you young pups will get paid peanuts until you prove it and EARN a bigger payday. Isnt that exactly what is happening? So no way in hell do the Cowboys owe dak anything.

Most 4th round quarterbacks aren’t as good as Dak either.

Most starting rookie QBs dont come to a team with a loaded offensive line and that many weapons....point being Dallas doesnt owe him (or anyone) any back pay. Your draft selection and how you got there is on you (the team selecting you had nothing to do with your college career/success)..not to mention they made him a household name by his first regular season game of his rookie year. Youre welcome, Dak.

Maybe 4th season. But if they low balled him, I wouldn't have taken it either.

If he was low balled for sure he turns it down but the reporting says it was 32-34m range in line with Goff and Wentz, i just didn't see how much the reported guarantees were, at any rate he was offerred a deal after his 3rd season

yah, but I think they were saying like 7 years and stuff like that. Either way, he has been underpaid for what he has been doing.

Irvin is being pretty stupid, the contract was signed in good faith. If Dak was the backup the entire time and never played a snap, he would have also gotten every dollar provided he was kept on the roster. Now if Dak wants to make up for money lost, I certainly don't begrudge him that. But expecting back pay is pretty silly. With that said, athletes have gotten what was essentially "back pay" before, but I can only really remember it happening in baseball (where there's no salary cap).

it possible and we all know he wasn't going to sign a deal like that but again while he overperformed his rookie contract he was offerred a deal after 3 years which at the time would have put him at the top of the league in salary, so all this talk about back pay is ridiculous if you ask me, he turned down a deal or stopped negotiating or whatever and decided to play his rookie deal out. He is owed nothing except good faith negotiations by the team and by his management at this point
