The majority of the post I see are about offensive players QB, RB, OL, TE, and WR. But the first pick in Dallas Cowboys draft History was DL Bob Lilly. The Cowboys have chosen with the 1st overall pick 1 QB and 2 DL. Both Landry and Jimmy Johnson selected DL with the no.1 overall pick in Ed Jones and Russell Maryland. The Cowboys famous Dirty Dozen draft was headlined by 1st round pick Randy White. The first significant Cowboys free agent signing was DB Deion Sanders. They traded for defensive players on other teams that are in the Ring of Honor (Chuck Howley and Charles Haley). One is the only Super Bowl MVP on a losing team and the other has the most Super Bowl Rings by a Defensive player.

So why Cowboy fans caught this infectious disease from Jerry Dumbo GM Jones about focus on offensive players? Defense wins championships. Jerry would not had a 3rd Super Bowl after firing Jimmy Johnson without Deion and win a 1st without Johnson trading for Charles Haley. How did those trades for Joey Galloway, and Roy Williams WR work out?

With all the hype about CeeDee Lamb, Cooper, Dak, Elliott, the OL, etc. who is going to stop the other team from scoring more points than the Cowboys and bring that Dallas Doomsday scenario for the 2020 season? The Cowboys will have 3 new starters in the secondary of which 2 could be rookies, 3 new starters on the DL of which none were on the team last year, played for losing teams, will be rookies, or 1st year starters. Neither Smith, Vander Esch, or Lee has started or completed the season as starters from the prior year (2 full seasons in a row together). When was the last time Cowboy fans said our defense makes us Super Bowl contenders?

So I do not know where this Super Bowl talk is coming from the Cowboy Village at the Star. The Cowboys need difference makers, game changers, and reliable (not off the team or in the tub) players on defense to challenge for a Super Bowl. Until you see that problem solved, there will be no joy in Cowboyville tonight.

Well coaching matters, no more Marinelli and Richards.

You would be hard pressed to find a franchise with a better history at QB.

Don Meredith, Craig Morton, Roger Staubach, Danny White, Troy Aikman, Steve Walsh, Tony Romo and Dak Prescott. Show me one team who can match that list, I don't believe there is one.

It always makes me chuckle just a little bit when I see fans freak out about being able to find a QB. We've pretty much always had one with the exception of a few years at the end of Danny's career and the drafting of Troy. That's really only like 2 or 3 seasons and the early 2000s between Troy and Tony. But the fans still freak out and lose their minds over having to go out and find another QB. It's kind of crazy to me.

There are different ways to win a Super Bowl. Look no farther than last year's champs.

Going back to drafts in the 1970's or 1990's has no bearing on today.
KC had a good defense, they only allowed 1 td and 1 fg per half.
The game was 10-10 at the half.
KC scored 21, SF 10 in 2nd half, so was it all KC offense, or a combo of good defense and good offense that won the game?

IMO shanahan blew the game for SF, they could have won with different tactics, and play calling.
Defense plays a bigger part in SB wins than offense.

Jones has always favored offense over defense, hence no SB's, in fact never did get past div round all these years.
I think the op is just saying this isnt a good way to build a SB caliber team.

I'm the captain of The Improve the Defense Movement, but you absolutely draft CeeDee Lamb at 17 in the scenario that played out.

They made the right move. They also drafted defense with 4 of their next 5 picks.

Plus, adding three defensive starters (Poe, McCoy, Clinton-Dix), possibly a fourth (Worley) in free agency.

The defense's biggest problem was Marinelli's dinosaur scheme and his complete inability to adjust to what modern day offenses do.

I’m all about defense winning championships but when a guy like Lamb falls in your lap, you got to take it. Even the FO here couldn’t believe what was transpiring because I know they were going to go defense with the first pick.

They did go all defense the next few rounds as well as adding some nice pieces on the DLine via free agency.

KC's defense was similar to ours across the board last season

"Reading is fundamental". But avoid the point like Jerry and you will be in the same spot you have been the last 25 years...posting about why the Cowboys can not get to the Super Bowl.
Did you forget troy aikman. First pick in entire draft. That same year steve Walsh with supplemental draft.
It was a Supplemental pick that could have felled anywhere in 32 slots of the 1st round the following year. Steve Walsh was a draft pick in the 1989 Supplemental draft that cost Dallas its first round pick in the 1990 draft. So Steve Walsh was not the 1st overall pick in the 1990 draft. Jeff George was the no.1 overall pick of the 1990.

But again like Jerry, you have missed the point for the 25th year in a row.
