There is reason to be pessimistic.

Along with those new players is a completely new coaching staff who don't know any of the players.

Add to that there have been no OTAs and mini camp to put the coaching staff further behind.

Now you hear about the preseason being shortened and it gives the coaching staff even less time to get the players acclimated to their new schemes.

Teams like Dallas will start the season further behind than those teams with little change from last year. This is a major disadvantage.

Dallas had maybe the best offseason of any team, but circumstances may negate that.

We as fans won't know what kind of team Dallas has this year till week one, and maybe not even then. I want to hope for the best, but right now that's wishful thinking.

It won’t be any worse than the slow starts we have seen the last couple years.

Luckily we do have a lot of veterans on this team and we retained our offensive coaching staff. The offense will be the strength of this team and we only have one new player that should play a pivotal role on that side of the ball in Lamb.

New coaching staff’s have had a lot of success over the last several years as well. Sometimes it can be harder on your opponent trying to catch up to speed and figure out your new formations as well especially since we have had the Kiffin/Marinelli staff in place for so long.

Andy Dalton QB "Man is it nice to have a legit backup QB"
Dontar Poe DT "Are you kidding me? This guy brings vet experience, leadership AND production"
Gerald McCoy DE "Are you kidding me? This guy brings vet experience, leadership AND production"
Cameron Irving LT "Solid backup for the Oline"
Daryl Worley CB "Former 3rd pick who is versatile"
Ha-ha Clinton Dix S "Former Pro Bowler who has started 96 NFL games. 96!"
Greg Zuerlein K "Forbath better come to camp prepared. One of the interesting battles in camp"
Blake Bell TE "The Ying to Jarwins Yang. Zeke applauds"
Maurice Canady CB "Big CB with excellent speed. Can he make the team?"

Combine this FA class with by all accounts one of the best draft classes this year and there is reason for hope. For you haters who pray for an 8-8 season I know it's a tough pill to swallow because you live in the negative, but there's no reason not to be excited about this up coming season. Oh, and also there's an almost completely new coaching staff with SB experience.
It looks good on paper for sure. Next step is transferring success to the field.

This isn't your typical posting style.
Where did you copy and paste it from?

Also I’ll add one more thing.

Your comment may hold more weight if this was a brand new coaching staff but we the most experienced coaching staff in the division, nearly the conference. They shouldn’t be excused for not being ready.

Absolutely. Proof is in the pudding so to speak. But don’t you think there is reason to be hopeful?
I like the Poe and McCoy signings a lot. If those guys pan out, our defense is instantly better than last year. They’re both a little older so I don’t expect as many plays from them as I would have 5 years ago in their prime. But they should be an upgrade.

Ha Ha is just a band aid in my opinion. That doesn’t mean he will be bad, I just don’t think he’s a long term solution. He’s a better hitter than tackler so maybe his tackling skills could improve.

I really like the Blake Bell signing. I think he has a ton of upside, especially if his blocking really improves. He’s a great athlete too- A former QB. Maybe we could sneak in a gadget throw with him sometime.

I also like the Dalton signing....as a backup. All the yelling on the forum about him starting is crazy. He’s probably here for a year as a top shelf backup before he moves on somewhere next year. But I’m glad we finally have a quality backup again.

This team has had an excellent off season. Now they just have to prove it on the field. Here’s hoping.

Rockport, thanks for bringing something worth reading to the table. I appreciate you. There is absolutely reason to be hopeful.

No one said the defense is Doomsday only that they have acquired big time upgrades in talent. Do you disagree with that?
True but we are going to need better starting safeties, not that X Woods is terrible but he is not going to get turnovers either. Haha is a journey guy and just marginal. We will need better than that for the defense to be above average.

Ok well, some guys are glass half empty guys like yourself and other are half full guys. It’s a choice.

And, there is reason to be optimistic as well, which is all the OP was saying. We all know nothing is certain, and that there are challenges with a new coaching staff that hasn't been able to work with the players yet.

A solid crop of FAs paired up with better coaching!! If Garrett and Marinelli were still here Woods and Hill would be the starters and if it weren't for Richard coming in Jones would still be a safety. LOL What was happening here before this year was a complete joke. A crap D with terrible coaching that couldn't force a turnover, make a key stop and got run over to the likes you've never seen before? The 20s will definitely be better than the 10s, that's for sure!
