Adding Butkus and Urlacher to the '85 Bears defense would be fearsome. Gayle Sayers and Devin Hester in the return game too.

By considering the Ravens as a continuation of the Browns franchise, you could add Ed Reed, Jonathan Ogden, and Ray Lewis to the old Cleveland guys like Jim Brown, Ozzie Newsome, and Otto Graham. Still probably not in the top class of teams though.

More off season time waste...

If every team in the NFL could hand-select their best players and coaches of all time to play for one year, which team would win the Superbowl? Assume that every player and coach would be in their prime. Assume that you could only claim players that you had during their prime...meaning you couldn't claim a one one time star who played a season or two for your team on the downside of their career.

I think the Cowboys could win it all. Not just because we've had such outstanding players, but because we've had them at so many different positions. We would end up with a well-rounded team.
Hey great thread. But I can’t wait for real football to start.

Bellichec, Brady, Gronk, Moss, Sam Cunningham and Curtis Martin.
Plus some great Defensive players.

You ask this in a cowboys forum, where a bunch of idiots think it's ok to pay an average QB 35+ Mill a year.

Hmm I wonder if they will be a little unbiased

Yes, I asked this in a Cowboys' forum. I would imagine most of the fans here are fans of the Cowboys and most of the people are biased towards the team. I understand that a few people aren't actually fans of the team and behave more like trolls. For example, you hashtagged "#DontpayDak" in a Cowboys' forum. Hashtags don't work in forums. Also, you said there's a bunch of idiots here. Please...go back through every response to this post, find and copy every one that mentioned paying Dak 35 million a year. Or, go back and find ANY post where I said that we should.

There are dozens of posts where your comment would fit...dozens. Yet, you post it here when, unless someone picked him, Dak hasn't been the topic of conversation at all. You call out other members and call them names in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with what you posted. Your post is the definition of trolling.

The hardest thing would be coaching.
Today's game has evolved so great coaches from the 80s and 90s would face very different situations.

If I were starting my all-time "preferred" Cowboys team today I'd plug in Mike McCarthy as Head Coach.
Chances he passes Landry or even Jimmy are near zero but in today's game I think he would be far better.

Sucks to say but Pats would be very tough to beat.
Brady, Moss. Gronk, Welker, Terry Glenn and a tremendous defense that can play both 3-4, 4-3 concepts.

DAL with Staubach, Irvin, Pearson, peak Dez, 25 year old Witten, Emmett, the best OL of all teams would be super nasty with Mike calling modern spread schemes.
Defense is a little spottier but the bit of healthy Deion, Haley that we got would be super nasty.

Disagree on the coaching. Landry and Johnson had more experience in big games and were more balanced between O and D but both were D guys and D wins championships.

These things are impossible to say.
Landry was fired because his concepts had grown stale after 20 years of being the dominant force in the game.
Jimmy was a terrible offensive coach that brought a unique defense to bear that took over the league.

In today's NFL all the rules are geared to pass offense.
You can pair a great defensive coach with the right offensive system and players for sure though.

All that said if these coaches were young and starting to coach today I'm sure they would create new systems.

I'm not even sure. He wasn't just a mercenary here...he was more than that. No idea.
He was happiest here and the team was happiest with him but his back was really bad.
Since each team gets to choose I'm sure they both take him and overlook his warts for the performance.

Recency bias.

SF beats them by a mile w/ Montana/Young/Tittle/Hadl w/ Rice and Gore and Haley and Justin Smith.

Probably still the Patriots. They dominated for 15 years with cap restrictions, I'd hate to see what they'd do without it.

Such a good hypothetical. You have to look at the entire 53, not just the starting 22. Most teams could put out a HOFer at most positions, but rare is the team that has multiple HOFers at the same position. Dallas has 2 HOF QBs, 2 HOF RBs, 3 HOF WRs (you have to include T.O. by definition of the thought experiment, multiple HOF OL at every position. Then on defense you have multiple DL HOFers (with Ware fast approaching), LB HOFers, and Secondary HOFers. Probably only Pitt, GB, Minnesota and perhaps SF can boast as deep of a HOF roster as Dallas.

Here's my Dallas all time 53 roster based on players and coaches who were in Dallas at any time (I'm sure I've gotten stuff wrong).
HC: Landry
OC: Sean Payton
DC: Bill Parcells
GM: Jimmy Johnson

QB1: Aikman, Staubach
RB1: Smith, Dorsett, Moose, Springs
WR1: Hayes, Pearson
WR1: Irvin, Bryant
WR1: T.O., Cooper
TE: Witten, Novacek, Dupree
LT: Tyron Smith SWT Wright
LG: Larry Allen, Gogan
C: Stepnoski, Frederick
RG: Martin, Newton,
RT: Erik Williams

Defense
DE Ware, Too Tall Jones
DT Lilly, White, Glover
DT Maryland, Howley
DE Haley, Jeffcoat, Martin
LB: Jordan, Lee, Lockhart
LB: Norton Jr., Coakley
LB: Henderson, Lewis
CB: Deion, Renfro, Thurman
CB Walls, Newman, Smith
S: Woodson, Downs
S: Harris, Waters

K: Bailey
P: McBriar

I'd put that team up against any team's best 53.

What were you right about me on? Touching a nerve? Yeah, a little bit. No matter what's going on or what's being discussed, these comments infect every single thread. It gets old.

Nah I was right about you Dak fans.

You all are the real trolls.

To want the team to pay that type of money, and therefore not be able to sign whoever and cripple us to an average QB who needs help, let's me know you all aren't fans of the team

Just trolls, that are sensitive like you.

And it gets old.
