I was just wondering if it's the older fans who see what I see in Dak

CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
I'm 53- almost 54 years old. I have been a fan of the Cowboys since the early 70's- when I was old enough to know about them.
I've seen the likes of Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Namath, Pat Haden, Danny White, Joe Montana, Brian Sipe, Dan Pastorini, Craig Morton, John Elway, Joe Theismann, Billy Kilmer, Ron Jaworski, Doug Williams, Troy Aikman, Warren Moon, and others like Brett Favre on their best and worst days.
It's not that Dak can't learn. He's a great athlete.
But I don't see in him the instincts of any of the quarterbacks I just mentioned in regards to leadership skills and making a team better.
I'm just curious if it's the older generation that sees what I see?
One thing Dak does better is that he doesn't throw many interceptions, but I am not sure if that comes from the fact that he strictly follows the route tree or is just more aware.
But he doesn't seem to have "it" when it comes to leadership.
But is it the older guys who see what I see?
Just curious.

I'm in your boat.....fan since the 70's Landry era. Dak has leadership qualities in spades. What he seems to lack is the ability to complete the clutch throws with games on the line. He didn't lead the team to single 4th quarter comeback last season. He's no Staubach or Aikman.

For me, I look at a Qb surrounded by more talent than any QB in the NFL...... and the offense was still stuck in the mud or unable to produce, particularly against the good teams. There is a legitimate debate about how much of that was coaching and how much of that was Dak. My hope is that he plays on the tag this year so we can finally see how much of the team's 8-8 failure last season was on Garret and his coaching staff.

and their team did there part whether it been defense or sp tms, whether it was Sharp, Terrell Davis, Dorsett, Drew Pearson, Rice Dwight Clark Lynn Swann, Mean Joe Green, Stallworth, Kelsi, Hill, Legion of Boom, Marshawn Lynch, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin and so on and so on. And I didnt even mention the defenses.
LCD was still great qb. Of all the parts, that's the most important.

Couldn't agree more. Dak does have leadership qualities and he is an all around good guy with a good head on his shoulders (his mother did a good job raising him). He just does not have elite talent, he is an average QB with average QB talent. He does strive to improve and get better every year and that's a quality alot of players don't have but it's not going to change who he is and that is a bus driver, now with a solid supporting cast around him he can win a championship being a bus driver (it's been done before and will be done again) but those thinking Dak can carry a team to a championship will be dissapointed again this season and for many more should he sign a long term deal because the talent around him will start to decline each year a little more and he is not the guy to make that up with his ability

No doubt it takes a team to win. But without the great quarterback. You can lose it just as easily as win it .

thats one of my concerns, He'll end up like Romo as in by the time he figures it out he'll be too or or hurt to make it happen.

since Dak had 4902 passing yards last year it doesn’t seem DBs had that much time to contest throws. Strong completion % also goes against that theory.

I found myself saying on so many throws, "if only that ball placement was on target the receiver could have gained more yards." He doesn't lead receivers well enough for my liking. It's like his brain can't process fast enough. Even many of the sacks he takes I'm saying, "you need to start scrambling now!" but he waits an extra couple of seconds and takes alot of sacks because of it. It's not that he's a bad player, his brain just doesn't process information as fast as the elite ones. Aikman was awesome at throwing before the receiver was out of his break. Dak needs to see the receiver open first and then he throws. It's too late at that point. He has started to trust his receivers a bit more but when he gets into trouble, he reverts back to old Dak.

I’m not sure that there has been a good definition given here for the “it factor” and how it relates to his leadership.
If leadership in football is the in your face displayed by Troy and Roger on the sidelines, I don’t recall much of that from Dak.
I also don’t recall him giving up his body for the team.
Just asking the question of what is the “it” everyone is looking for.

Sort of a knack for seeing the big pic and inherently knowing what to do.

Would be nice to be rewarding him for a couple of deep play off runs but this is about as good as Cowboys football gets so what the heck give him the farm.

Folks aren't called a Dak hater because they are critical. They are labeled a hater by saying stupid stuff like he isn't accurate, or a terrible QB, or can't make throws, or can't beat winning teams, or doesn't deserve any credit but all the blame and the list goes on.

He isn't a perfect QB but he is really good and at the very least a top 10 QB. Being critical isn't the same as talking bs or throwing crap at the wall hoping it sticks
Exactly, no one calls a reasonable stats-based criticism hate. It’s those who move the goalposts every week that constantly need to fill their agenda.
