does it say how short? the last game is usually a dud and could be done away with, but the others are needed to look at guys, and play the starters
at least 2 quarters.

A good number would be 0, if they're going to have fans present. Why take the chance when it doesn't count and isn't real under these circumstances?

The only games that should be played should count. Coaches do not need pretend games to make roster decisions, they do that under controlled situations at camp and practice. What is any coach going to learn from putting his 2nd and 3rd stringers up against the other team's backups? Do McC and Philbin want to know how the players vying for the OL look against other teams backups or even their starters that do not go all out in pretend games or do they want to know how those OL look against their own DL under controlled circumstances?

The NFL does not need preseason anymore than college does and they're dealing with mostly new teams every season.

Lol. Each year every team only plays 4 or 5 preseason games & Goodell is cutting it short by 2 games. Whoopie Roger. Exactly what's your point of doing so anyway?!

If you do away with last game then the next to last becomes the last and you have same scenario
It’s not about the game but the real game the next week

I don’t know
I think those games are very important to get guys in real game situations
Even more so today since you have so few real practices with hitting

Here's an idea, cancel the preseason and expand the rosters, game day rosters and practice squads. Bring preseason back in 2021 but keep the expanded rosters in place to absorb some of the expanding cap and stop the more pay to the same number of players and employ more players, spread the wealth.

They could set up a Cap Exemption for players selected so to cover them for this season. Set it up where they can't hide 1st or 2nd stringers as Cap Exemptions.

This would also give teams a cache of players to pull from should the need arise with positive diagnoses.

Also fewer "bubble players" to make decisions on in the 4Q of the last preseason game, where fortunes are made or lost.

How is that different from college? They don't need pretend games and they come out of the gate, most of the time, looking better than the NFL teams. And they don't have the patsy schedules to start the season as they once did. That first game might cost a team a shot at the CFP.

If they actually used those as tune ups to hit the ground running, as they did back in the day which is why Landry had such an impressive opening day record, I wouldn't feel the way I do but they don't. Tell me it looks like they've played any meaningful football opening weekend of the NFL. It's sloppy, few are in full game shape and back when they only played 14 or 12 of these, every game was critical. Go 0-1 and you were on alert. Now, naaah.

The first starter that goes down, all of the HC's lose their pucker and go into protect mode because that owner that makes so much on that game while paying the help next to nothing will have a poor memory come time to talk contracts or retention after the season. And players have been shafted with injury settlements when their season ended before it started too many times.

Preseason is about additional revenue for the franchises. Remember the players under contract aren’t paid until the regular season. They receive 16 game checks. Not 20.

For the players, this is working out great. No OTA's, No meetings, No nothing.. then when it does start, only a couple of preseason games.

This means they will have to give ticket holders refunds right at the start.

Most likely they will have to refund the whole season but this at least guarantees a refund right away for at least one preseason game.

My biggest gripe about the preseason games are the tv interviews that take place during the game. If the game is so boring, then why broadcast it at all?

While the owner gets full price for everything.
Preseason doesn’t fall under the Equal TV revenue sharing or ticket sales either.

And teams like Cowboys have their own Silver Star network. Owners don’t want to give these meaningless games up. $$$$$$$$
