Gregory was suspended on February 26, 2019 so it’s been a year and four months since the team has seen him. He hasn’t been on a football field since we lost to the Rams in the playoffs.

From last years results that sounds like all the other players and the old coaching staff as well. :muttley:

Ideally the league makes a decision on him before Everson Griffin signs... he’d be the ideal fallback if the league for some reason doesn’t allow him back.

I worry about the roster spot and whether or not he would be able to handle the stress of an entire season without getting in to trouble with the league again. Do you really want to take that chance?

Valid question. I guess the answer is at rhe Front Office personnel management level. Assessing the risk vs. reward. They have held onto him for this long so I guess their vested interest kinda implies they think the risk is worth it.

you think Michael Irvin wouldnt have been suspended as much as Gregory if he played today vs the 90s?

I don't know that Michael Irvin ever failed an NFL drug test. Remember, unless you are already in the system, you only get tested for recreational drugs once a year. It typically falls right after the draft when minicamps are held. This test is commonly referred to as the Idiot Test, because with knowledge of when you are going to be tested, you would have to be either an idiot or an addict to fail it.

The team will get Gregory back; along with the new additions on the line, and the season will be cancelled.

That isn't true. Gregory has shown it in spades when he has been on the field, the question is whether he will be on the field. Anae showed it in college and the team had a 3rd round grade on him. Armstrong showed it in limited reps and 3rd year players often improve.

Its true each of those has risks and are not guaranteed. But its false to say they haven't shown they can do it.
None of those players have been a solid reliable player in the NFL. Spin it however you want it is still just spin. Gregory has been man handled the few games he has played. He has shown some speed that is about it. Anae hasn't played a down in the NFL. Armstrong is definitely the closest out of the 4 to being considered a proven NFL starter.

You can hope for the best but that is all you are doing is hoping. There isn't a proven NFL starter in the bunch at perhaps the most important defensive position in football.

The spin here is you moving the goalposts from "none of those 4 players have shown they can rush the passer" to "None of them are solid, reliable players".

If we had four solid, reliable pass rushers at RDE we would be the only team in the NFL (by a factor of two) and we would be on the hook for another 40 Million or so of salary cap space.

Now show me one game where Randy Gregory was "manhandled". I'll wait.

These guys should be meeting to see how WR Gordon keeps getting reinstated and again. He has applied again.

I dont know, but I suspect that testing in 1991 was very different than today.

id welcome him back, why not have talented player for added depth at a postion still could use a few extra sacks to make up for Quinn loss and Smiths Unknown production and Gregory cheap.

what chance? They just agreed not to suspend players for failing marijuana tests...so him failing which is likely, wouldn't hurt the team anymore.
