Looking back: Was it a mistake not to go back to Romo

The "fumble" in my opinion has been blown out of proportion. I was at the sideline vantage and when the ball comes out the defenders change direction. He would have gotten tackled regardless. And there was a safety deep. I encourage you to check that view.

I've seen it plenty of times...of course TV coverage only. Okay...so he would have been tackled. We were on a roll. We...."probably" would have scored. Instead...GB scores going out the half and coming in the half. No matter how we slice and dice it...it was a critical moment.

And I apologize for thinking Murray was careless with his rock. It's just my opinion.

That's the cruel but most likely result... and, when Dak goes back in, there's a question of whether the continuity hiccup allows him to have the same success that he did, too.

As a Romo fan myself who was still holding out some hope he'd return to the game and compete for the job instead of going to CBS...

I say, no, stop it. Romo himself--stand-up guy that he is--took the podium in late October of that year and gave a lecture on meritocracy that put to bed any argument. In other words, if Romo himself didn't consider it "dirty," then that effectively removes any oxygen from that flame.

As you said...he is a stand up guy. It's in his nature to do and say what he did. A true warrior and leader.....I am SURE he lead the team like that the whole time.

I've seen other players less...gracious... about these things.

I respect your opinion; nothing to apologize for.

Murray was good. Would have become one of my favorite RB's. But the dang fumble. I don't hate him for it....but..hard for me to get over it too.

A lot like Jackie's Smith's "fumble". Heartbreaking.

(Now before you come at me...yes...I know...."one play doesn't make a game". Yes, I know "all players have critical errors". No matter...it is what it is for me.)
it wasnt a fumble it was a strip, and it was the fault of martin who got tooled by the guy who made the strip from behind.
If you have the game watch that play and the replays and watch martin, he was awful on that play.

Peppers made him look like a fool.
I could not remember his name lol.
I think he also stripped romo of the ball and murray recovered it or another player did.
The bad thing about the murray fumbles that year , is the media made a super big deal about each one, and his team mates
never recovered even 1 of them. He only had 6 out of 392 carries? and later on elliot had 6 and nothing was said about it.

I just watched the games two days ago. It was interesting to watch them through the lens of how Dak is criticized by Romo lovers. I’d encourage you to check it out.

Pay particular attention to the accuracy of the passes and see just how many were behind receivers where they had to adjust to fact the ball, or dropped it, or tipped it for an interception. Also keep in mind these teams were teams with losing records. Dak is hammered even when we blow these types of teams out.

Romo had a 103 QB rating against the Giants, he had a game winning drive in the last minute of the game, I don’t know what else can I say, as far as losing records, it was the first game of the season so...

Against the Eagles they were leading 13-0 with 10 minutes to go in the 3rd Q, with the ball at the eagles 30 yard line, that’s when he got injured, he was playing well.

Anyway, to each his own I guess

You don't know what to say?
Well the Giants were 6-10 that year. Most of the teams they beat were scrubs. Hell, they barely beat the Cowboys the 2nd time around and Cassel threw 3 interceptions in the game. Needing a comeback to beat the Giants that year? I don't care what the QB rating is, the team sucked. BTW, the Giants PASSING defense that year took on the dubious honor of the worst in the HISTORY of the NFL.

The Dez catch.

NFC championship game would have been in Seattle. Which Dallas won there early in the season. Would have crushed them too if not for a 7 point block and 2 bone headed turnovers.

Definitely could have beat Seattle to go onto the superbowl.

You do realize the 2016 team got exactly as far as the 2014 team, right?

The 2016 team may have gotten further with Romo. We will never know.

Romo could have led them further. He also could have just as easily gotten injured again.

Ok then, 3 TD’s, 103 QB rating, completed 36 of 45 passes, 360 yards but I guess ROMO SUCKED BIG TIME. Lol.

If that is how you feel, I’d bet you think Dak sucks too because half his TD’s in 2019 were against the Commanders and Giants, 2 of the 3 worst teams in the league and he’a record against playoff teams was awful. Smh.

Totally aware of that.

I just think we should know for 100% certainty how far Romo could have taken that 2016 team and the keys should have been handed back to him because his play was still at a high level when healthy. That hit in the Seattle preseason game could have sidelined any qb that had no injury history.

We all knew Dak was the future and would have years as the starter in front of him. But Dak hasn't had a season like his rookie year since. 2017 was a decline. 2018 and 2019 were good seasons, but he clearly was a better QB in 2016 because of that roster.

Romo wanted the starting job back and should've had that opportunity again, in my opinion.

Worst case scenario was that Romo got injured again and the team would've just gone back to Dak.

Never said that as I didn't watch the game recently. But I wouldn't use it as a reference for an NFL QB job.

But someone did and they weren't impressed with his performance. I'll take his word for now considering they were down early to such a lousy team and barely beat them.

The discussion was that if Romo was playing well in 2015, someone said he was playing really bad. I just stated that before his injury, only a 1 and a half game sample, he was playing well. The numbers and results back that up. That’s it.

I understand what you’re saying. I’m just kind of highlighting that even with a healthy Romo there’s just no guarantees. Football is still a team sport. QB play was also fairly far down the list of reasons the team lost in 2016.

I haven't even looked at the portion of the Philly game but when a team only scores 2 FGs in the first half of a game against the worst pass defense in the history of the NFL, you have to question the passing game or the game plan. Again, I am relying on the person you called into question. He seems like an honest guy to me. Watch the game and determine for yourself if you are really interested in checking him out.

The worst pass defense in the history of the NFL? :laugh:Have Dak slobberers become so pathetic that they just say any stupid thing nowadays with no expectation that people are actually reading their crap?

I watched both games live and Romo played really well, did he play GREAT, probably not but he played really well. About the 2 FG in a half, what can I say, it happens just like it happened in our 2016 playoff game against one of the worst D’s in the league in the Packers where we only got 1 TD in the first 3 quarters.

I will admit, the Cowboys did not know how bad the Giants pass defense would be considering it was the first game of the year.
