Making a safety the highest paid player on your defense is just stupid. Trading more than a first round pick for a safety is also stupid.

He wouldn't be. Top safeties currently make about 14 mill a year

It’s hard to say. Cuz technically he has two years left and then tags but if they’re smart trade him now before it gets bad. And by trade him now I mean to us right now lol

I'm fine with giving him that extension right now. It's the smart move for any team that trades for him. Add on to the contract and years that he already has. If you do that and the added years are at the top of the market, you spread out that hit so it ends up being much less overall.

Yeah, but by the time his cap hit takes effect other players cap hits will be off the board. Like, Lee, Crawford, and Cooper. That's well over 30M right there. I'd be more concerned as to what we'd give up for him. I wouldn't touch our WRs at all unless they want someone not named Gallup, Copper, or Lamb. I think he's worth a late first round pick, but not an early first rounder. We are hoping to be picking late next year, right?
Lee and Crawford yes, Cooper no. Cooper, Elliott, Dak, D-Ware will have several years of cap hit. There is also the fact that there will be others to pay along the way.

Supposedly he wants at least $15 million per year.

If we add four years and $60 million - $15 million per year - on the extension and add that to the $14 or so he's already due to make over the next two years, we're talking about 6 years and $74 million overall, which averages out to a little over $12 million a year.

That would be much better.

I’m totally fine with that as well. I know he said he’d wait but in reality you should get it done now to have more years added on like you said

And if you wait, you simply watch the market continue to rise while giving the player and agent all leverage, because you have to keep him given the draft investment it took to get him. Exactly the same situation that we had with Cooper.

Things will only get worse if the Jets don't sign him this offseason but decide to sign Darnold with 2yrs left on his deal next offseason.

One, it will make things tricky trying to sign both to large deals. Second, Adams and his camp will be even more jaded.

They need to re-sign him this offseason or trade him IMO.

Yes, suppressing free thought and opinions is very important in this new order society.

People are free to have any opinion they wish. What they're NOT free from are the consequences of such. Do and say what you want at your own risk. It's quite hilarious to me that those that hurled the 'frozen precipitation' moniker at others when they were not happy with an unpopular opinion all of a sudden don't see that same label as applying to them now that they're "offended" at things.

Exactly. Should get it done soon when he supposedly would give a discount. Market goes up and his play stays the course that discount won’t happen

He's a great kid with a great attitude. He's outplayed his contract. 2 all pros, 2 pro bowls in 3 seasons. The NFLPA really messed up on not getting rid of the 5th year option. I mean for certain guys to play half their career being underpayed doesn't sound so enticing. Jets aren't strapped for cap space if they were smart they would sign him to a huge deal and front load some of that money while they have the space. Why draft a guy 6th overall have him ball out then not pay him. It's obvious he's better than the $13 million over the next 2 years. Down the road his deal will look like a steal. He's only 24 doesn't turn 25 until october this kid could ball out like crazy and every year you don't sign him the money goes up.
outplayed his contract? WTH does that actually mean? He was the 6th overall draft pick of the 2017 draft. You are damn right he was expected to be all pro and make pro bowls. He hasnt outplayed jack squat. Hes done exactly what a team expects from a player taken 6th in the 1st round of the draft. The NFLPA sold the young players out years ago. You can not expect teams to redo contracts that are good for 5 years because the player wants it redone. If im an owner Id let the guy just sit for two years and collect not a damn penny before a gave into their demands. The current CBA is what it is and if young players are pissed at anyone, they should be pissed at the vets who wanted the big deals for themselves.

Adams has a 5th year option being a 1st round pick and then after the 5th year the jets could tag him making it to be the 3rd year in 6 years the jets can control his destiny.
.
.

Yeah but with the shortened offseason and the lack of leaders on the Jets defensive roster having Adams there could be a problem.

Adams position is that the front office has been negotiating in bad faith and wants out because of it. He's Ashtyn Davis' leader.

Because they are very poorly run. If theres any guy to sign early and lock him in its a player like him

I have completely changed my opinion of this guy. I know he's just a box safety. I know he'll cost a lot. But I think he's worth every bit of it. His talent would help this defense a ton. If our Dline and LBs play like we expect, add him and we won't have to worry about what's behind them. Then I look at some of the contracts we currently have that will come to an end, his deal won't matter. But then again, are the Cowboys interested? What to give for him if they are? I think a late first rounder is a good deal. How do you argue against that if there's cap space?

If the Jets decide to trade him to a team that he prefers not to go to, he can just publicly threaten to holdout. The precedent is set already with Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski. A high profile player has a lot of sway if you want to get maximize his value.

The Jets will maximize his value if you trade him to a team that he wants to go to.

problem is he’s offered a pretty long list of teams he’s open to

If I was Adams I would go straight to Jerry and say I'm signing with the Eagles. If I'm Jerry I would say, welcome to the Cowboys.
