Am I missing something here, or is this great news for Anti-Dakkers? What is the play from Dak’s side here?
It's the move everyone with an ounce of sense knew would happen.
He holds out, he's toast for the year. Them's the rules with the tag. Gotta sign it, or forfeit.

Now he looks more like a team player and negotiations continue.

Simple stuff really.

Exactly. A big eat it, to all those calling him selfish and ignorantly thinking he was holding out.
I do not think any of us thought this would not happen.

It was more a question of how long was it going to take.

It still needs more work but at least both sides agree according to how the game is supposed to be played.

This is really good news.

Well, does this mean Prescott is back to being a good leader?

Man, some people deep ended this entire epic drama when none of us really knew what was going on. Had this not started last off season, I guess it doesn't get these legs but we really out performed our best on running it into the ground on this one. We'd have to combine Elliott and Lawrence to match this one.

You misunderstand. The tweet says this locks him into training camp, but training camp starts after July 15. What does this enable that signing this after negotiations have failed at at the last hour doesn’t?

No surprise he wasn’t about to throw away $31 million and possibly his career with the Cowboys. A hold out would have forced the team to either pay him, trade him or move on.

Not once they used the exclusive tag, it's not just 31.4M but the endorsements he risked if he was a no show.

I don't think it's been strange from Prescott's camp, they only want a 4 year deal and the Joneses don't want to be back here in 4 years. They don't do this well.

If they'd gotten this done last off season, they could have used the tag on Cooper and then rescinded it when they got Lamb and not be on the hook for 20M to a WR or at least had him for this season while Lamb transitions.

You keep saying this but there was no risk to endorsements if he no-showed. Are there examples of players who lost endorsements after holding out?

I agree the front office (I.e. Stephen Jones) bumgled this whole negotian from the start. Had they signed him last year before Goff and Wentz, they could have inked him to a 5yr deal (including the 4th year if original contract) for $31mm-$33mm and $95mm-$105mm guaranteed.that will have been a bargain by the time he signs his extension.
I don't know what they tried to do but whatever it was, no sale. And they may not make the sale on a long tern deal before 7/15.

If it were me, I would welcome the opportunity to see Prescott for a year with a new HC and O even if that means I pay more on the back end. Let's see these guys work together for a season first, then decide. They can always get a 4 year deal next year, probably cost a little more but they should feel better about it after a year under McC. And with McC, I'd go to him and say "make us want to pay him more next season".

Lol

Dak is a good QB in my opinion. He should get a deal similar to Wentz and Goff got. Nothing more, in my opinion.
Closer to wilson money because JJ waited another year.. I still think they sign him before the 15th deadline..

Doesn't sound like a selfish QB to me. I think he wanted to sign it in order to be with the team, learn as much as possible and be ready for the season.

Maybe I'm wrong but I can't think of anything Dak has done directly that looked like he only looking for the big payday. He hired a top agent who is going to get him a good contract, but you don't hear Dak talk about money or feeling he should get more than Wentz or Goff or whoever.

Dak was smart to get an insurance policy that would pay him 50MM in case of injury, for all the drama in these threads Dak has always acted like a guy who was set for life financially and who knew that. He has never made the comments about respect or being the highest paid or anything like that.

Just optics my friend. That's it.

Yay, now trade him.

Anyone that doesn't think Dalton, 2 firsts, and 24+ million in cap space in exchange for Dak isn't a huge win for the franchise, is someone you should never listen to about football.

Wouldn’t it be better optics not to sign it as a show of faith that you are 100% certain that a long term deal would be reached instead of signing the tag a month before you had to?
Maybe. I'm not saying the correct thing is being done. I'm just saying what I think is the why it is being done.

Somebody's afraid of letting DiNucci get a head start this summer.
DeNucci is light years behind. Dak could sit out until WK 1 and still be ahead of every QB on the roster to start. Dalton is Dak's backup, not "little Ben" DeNucci, by the way.

Marcus, a QB has never held out. New HC with a new offense and he no shows on a 31.4M deal with so many out of work? Do you think the angry fans wouldn't be letting his sponsors know guilty by association? He got those endorsements being the DC QB.

I agree, it is an assumption on my part but I would bet the farm that he wouldn't have retained one sponsor and you can bet their ad people have been talking to Todd France about Prescott's intentions. I don't think he or Prescott ever intended on letting it get that far to find out. Before this economy, it might have been a little different but people are in a bad mood about jobs.

What was he gonna do? "Hey, don't buy Progresso soups, hold out for Campbell's Chunky soup". "Here's how I hold out my Pepsi can to get every last drop". "Be courteous and hold out the door for ladies at 7-11". "Sleep Number Beds, I wouldn't take 8 or 9, I held out for 10".
