I've been hearing this "We're only a player or two away from the Super Bowl" argument/logic for over a decade.

The brutal truth is, we aren't that close. During that time, we were never even close to a Super Bowl. All we got was as far as the divisional playoffs.

We bragged about our great offensive line, yet that line gave up six sacks of Romo in the 2009 Vikings playoffs and six sacks in the 2014 Lions playoffs. The Cowboys defense was supposedly good, until it got ripped by the Vikings and Rams in the playoffs. Murray was a great running back........until he wasn't. Zeke didn't do much in the playoffs. The Cowboys secondary was beaten time and time again when it mattered.

Every time we plug a hole, several more holes appear on the roster as gaping deficiencies.

And if Adams fails and we have no picks to replace him or anyone else? Need to work it to get him and keep that 1st round pick.
All pro or not, how much does that really mean as to giving up picks and crippling the salary cap?
Cooper is a difference maker, so that not being all pro means crap. Adams could be a difference maker or not. Cooper cost us a 1st round pick, the Jets want multiple high picks and a top OL. That is way too much.
Fails? How will he fail? He isnt a draft pick. We know he can play.

I'm also not giving up more than a 1st and 3rd. If they prefer a 1st and Connor Williams, then sure.

Jamal Adams play style and versatility has been compared to the Honey Badger. Except Adams is bigger, faster, younger and more physical.
They are absolutely nothing alike, because Adams doesn't play slot corner.

Coaching matters.

Trade for Jamal Adams and get Dak signed and we might have a legit chance to get to the SB.

With all due respect what created this love of Adams? Good player no doubt but he is a box safety. He’d cost at least $15mm plus you have to give up a 1 and another top pick. Rumors are Jets want 2 number 1s.

The price tag plus the position plus the cap hit makes this a non starter for me. 100pct Pass. Jets will have to sell him for much, much cheaper in a year if they are still at an impasse. Love to have him but no way do you give up 2 high picks and a huge contract for him

You're not getting a player as good as Adams with the 10th pick in the draft.

The Jets reportedly have already rejected "just" a first round pick from the Cowboys (with a player thrown in too).

The Jets are demanding a First and Second, so essentially the Cowboys could be giving up CeeDee Lamb AND Trevon Diggs- on cheap rookie salaries too.

But.... That's Not All.

The team would also be losing whatever additional free agent talent Adam's salary would bring in- and he wants to be the highest paid in the league. $16M-$18M brings in a LOT of quality free agent talent. McCoy cost about $6M. Dalton $3M. Dix $3.75M. Zuerlein $2.5M. Adams salary pays for ALL of them!!!!

Adams is not worth all that combined.

I don't think that would happen. probably a 10-15% chance....

all new coaches, all new scheme, every one has to get used to each other.

we open question marks at RDE, CB, despite the draft and additions.
we have open questions at TE.

but at this point my expectations are playoff minimally. if we get to second round, great, getting to NFCG would be unheard of...

The two most sensible posts in this thread.

I just don't get people not understanding how the salary cap is into play in every transaction, every draft choice, every contract. Planning is everything in today's NFL.

I get that you get a known quality in Adams. I'd love to have that solid talent back there. It's just not worth the draft capital and potential cap hit though. NFL teams have to have substantial rookie contract contributions ... substantial !

I understand when posting this that Jamal would costs a 1st Rounder and possibly a 3rd Rounder or 4th Rounder with it but as you stated
we are probably picking anywhere between 18th or 30th with the team we have. As you stated Jamal Adams you want see down there
in that area plus if you were trying to move up from 18th to top 5 or 6 to land an Adams which you would have too than guess what you
will be including your 3rd Rounder. My feeling is this team is close with the additions they've made not only in free agency from the Kicker
to the Defensive Line and a GREAT draft why not bolster the secondary with a playmaker and go for it next season. My only drawback
is the salary part of it but have read Adams would not require the Cowboys to re-up the contract for next season that's because he wants
to be a Dallas Cowboys so I'm all in and lets go for it.

The cost, both in draft picks and player as well as salary makes me think it's
not worth it. We signed Clinton Dix as well. Just get Dak signed.

The thing about Adams is his position isn't worth a 1st rounder......and his position isn't worth 20 million a year.
If he expects 20M a year he can forget it.

Who resets the market for a position by a full 20%?

I'm not sure that's accurate. He seems to have listed teams he would welcome a trade to without an extension and Dallas is one of them.

I'm not sure where the 20m figure came from.

As much as I'm pushing for it to happen, its gotta be for a 2021 1st, and the 3rd round comp pick. No more, and he either waits on an extension or he signs for the slightly more than Jackson got.

Its definitely not acquire him at any cost.

I've heard 20 million being thrown around. Not sure how true it would be. The thing about him is there isn't anyone else out there to compare him to. Maybe Landon Collins? But Landon wasn't nearly as good or as young so its hard to see where his market is.

The Kool Aid is flowing strong and early this year, don’t turn the spigots off so soon!

I agree with 100% of what you said, every year the Super Bowl chatter pops up and every year there’s a different excuse of why it will “really happen” the upcoming season. Every year the team is better than the year before, more experience, different coaching changes, blah blah blah. Some people don’t seem to realize there’s 31 other teams that are trying to get to the Super Bowl and they’re making improvements on paper as well.
