Did Brady ever demand or force the biggest deal?
I don't know one way or the other. But we really don't even know Dak is asking that - he may well be okay with a deal less than Wilson if the team will agree to a 4 year deal. But I'll bet Brady wanted top of the market when negotiating his first big contract. We hear about Brady giving team discounts after being in the league 15-16 years, but were we reading that 15-6 years ago? For all we know the difference is only in that the Patriots agreed to pay what Brady wanted back then, and that's why there was no hulabaloo about it.

This is a very hard one to call. First thing I'd do if I were Dak is breath a sigh of relief. He's going to earn enough money this season to set himself up for life. But as this could be his only big payday, he should bank it and invest it carefully.

From a football perspective there are some interesting choices. Two potential choices:

1. Go with it. Work hard in the preseason. Play every practice session at full bore and take every rep you can, even if you are carrying an injury. Never come out of a game. Similar strategy to the past couple of years so as to prevent the coaches from getting a look at one of the other QBs with the first team. Accept that even this may not be enough to get another big deal, so just enjoy it while it lasts.

2. If you think you might be able to sucker someone else into paying big money, then develop a persistent niggling injury in preseason. Not bad enough to get put on IR early in the season, but bad enough that you can duck out of as many games as possible so nobody can evaluate whether or not the offensive woes of past years were your or JG. In the meantime have your PR team constantly churn out stories about how good it is that JG is gone so as to solidify in peoples minds that it was his fault. Go on IR during the second part of the season and "have surgery" to clear up the injury before FA starts in March 2021. Then some sucker like the 'Skins owner may give you a long term contract.

Honestly, i'm being very honest, i would ask for 32 million dollars and ask the teams to continue to build. I'd do it the Brady way because, in the long run, your chances of success are higher, and you could have a longer career. Mr. Brady is in his 40s and still getting lucrative contracts. Why? Because he wins and has put himself in positions to win. This league is all about winning and has proven time after time, if you're selfish and are all about the money, you will get exposed. I'm not saying that Dak is the case, but I think for the longest time, especially in 2016, we were given this narrative that Dak is this selfless leader who calls people out and only wants to win. Personally, the last two years have dispelled all that for me.

I still like the kid and do want him signed, but I don't think he's this Jesus Christ figure people painted him to be when he first entered the picture.

Did Brady ever demand or force the biggest deal?

https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/patriots/tom-bradys-patriots-contracts-through-years#slide-6

2010

Deal: 4-year, $72M extension
Signing Bonus: $48.5M guaranteed

It took a car accident to push this deal over the finish line. With uncertainty because of a looming uncapped year in 2011, the Patriots and Brady worked hard to get a deal done prior to the start of the 2010 regular season when Brady would enter his walk year. A Thursday morning car accident caused Robert Kraft to consider the fragility of things and decide to get the deal done. The four years and $72M were for the 2011 through 2014 seasons and it had a record amount of guaranteed money and was the biggest contract in NFL history (briefly). The deal was announced at halftime of the Thursday night season opener on NBC by Peter King. After the deal was complete, Kraft said, "You’re never sure (when the deal will get finished) because it’s hard. You’ve got two sides. You’ve got agents, but everyone’s trying to help, but it gets complicated, but now, please God, he’ll be the quarterback here for 15 years. which is unusual." The day after Brady signed the deal, Bill Belichick said at his morning press conference, “There is no quarterback I’d rather have than Tom Brady.”

Laugh at everyone who is sitting at home on their couch that has probably never played football (other than in the yard or on a video game) telling me I suck

Let's say, you were actually Dak Prescott himself. You just signed the franchise tag.

What would you do the next day?

And also, what how would you handle the extension? What would your strategy be?

This has got to be the worst idea I've ever had and looking back, I've had some pretty bad topics.

Dak obviously has no problem betting on himself. So if I was him I continue to play the game until I get the 4 year deal. He is getting 31 million this year and will be slated for an increase to 37 million next year on the tag. So why should he budge at all? Every year that goes by his earning power goes up.

Bottom line is the Cowboys have to cave in 3 weeks or they are just dumb.

Brady obviously wasn’t willing to stay in New England choosing to leave for a bigger contract in Tampa.

I work on getting up to speed with new coaches, new players (if I haven't already), and focus on football.

I'm getting $31 million and my agent's job is to deal with the contract negotiations. That's why I hired him.

Save every penny as this will be the last time in his career he will find a fool GM/Owner to pay him this amount of cash!
Strategy wise, not much to do when your talent level is limited and you have a 9-year starter on the bench now just waiting for his chance.
The eyes of March are on young Prescott and his doom is certain!
I’m betting you are wrong
The second contract is generally every players biggest contract but Dak has many more contracts to come

Wonder what the CFL is paying these days??
You all need to come down to Earth concerning the talent abilities of Mr. Prescott.
How many more Field-goal attempts do you need to experience and beat downs by good teams to comprehend the broken wheel on offense for us????????

My guess is, at this point in his career, it wasn't the contract in TB that made the difference. My personal belief is that he wanted out of NE for some reason - maybe NE wasn't going to give him any assurances or said they were going to start seeking his replacement after 2020, or maybe he wanted a new challenge, or maybe he never really liked playing and/or living in the NE to begin with. Maybe something else.

I got the impression he thinks he can play longer than NE was willing to commit to
If he can take TB to the playoffs and compete it only adds to his fame
If New England doesn’t make the playoffs without him it’s gonna make more fans think it was Brady and not bill

I'd wait for Deshaun Watson to sign the reported 3-year deal he's looking for to further piss the Dallas FO off

That seems plausible to me, and fits with what I'm thinking as well.

What gives you the reasons to believe it was something more than money ?
