Dak signing the tender was always a foregone conclusion. By signing now, with one fell swoop, he eliminates further talk of holdouts, not being a team player, or putting coach mac at a disadvantage by not being able to work installing a new system with his starting qb. Truth is dak's a good guy and wanted to put the distractions to bed. Kudos to dak. Kudos also to Stephen for drawing a line in the pie and sticking to it. If revenues fall this year, so will salaries and the cap. Something dak and his agent didn't plan for. Advantage Stephen.
^^well said^^ and 100% fact. For all those idiots that kept falsely stating he would hold out, they been exposed. He was NEVER gonna pull that! He was always going to sign his tag for the reasons stated above. As I have also stated many times on here. It also shows good faith toward working on a long term deal by him just being here. I feel he wouldnt have signed the tag unless that was the case. Common sense was always going to prevail on this.

Get his deal done already ! If they wait around and Patrick Mahomes gets his deal done before Dak, Daks price will only go up ! I would not let him play on the Tag. He wants a 4 year deal, they want a 5 year deal. Split the difference - 4 years with a 5th year player/club option. Cant let him play for 31.5 million this year, get it down to 15 -20 or so. However they work the numbers.
Just get it done !
it will get done soon now. The first hurdle has been cleared by him signing the tag and not holding out from camp activities. This is a win win.

Wait this can't be. I heard for a fact on this board, there would be no franchise tag. Not once, not twice but multiple times, that you were an imbecile if you even considered, if, if, if you dared have the thought pass through your mind, he would sign a franchise tag. How dare you, how could you have a different opinion. The audacity.
lmao..lots of posters on this board that try to shame you when you disagree with something they claim is true. I agree with you, I been saying since they issued the tag to Dak,that he would sign it just before they come to terms on a long term deal. This was always going to be how they do it. EXPECTED. I'm dealing with the Jamal Adams cult on a couple threads on here so I can relate lol

If they were going to sign him anyway why not do it without worrying about whether Dak signed the tag? Signing him to a long term deal would have ensured he was in training camp too.

don’t get me wrong - I agree there is still a good chance they reach an agreement by July 15, but Dak signing the tag prior to signing a longer term deal wasn’t a requirement to get it done.

plus, the final touches are being worked out...so since the deal isnt ready, this satisfies that for now.

Yes, I just observed other posters getting ravaged by the mob for their opinions. I really was not sure how it would end up. Just when you think you know what Jerry will do, surprise. Jamal seems a longshot but if JJ makes him a target anything could happen.

Now we just need a season...

The proverbial elephant in the room that no one wants to live through. Another year+ to watch my Cowboys might cause me to communicate w/ the wife on Sundays which would be a miracle in itself. Now THAT is a problem! :p

There is a deadline regardless, so working out the financial details before the July 15 deadline did not require Dak signing the franchise tag.

I agreed but this season is not any other. Dak had to secure the $31.4M because of the uncertainty of season and strategically, Virtual training is over and rookies events commence last week of June per calendar NFL year (ie. rookie symposium etc) Dak leadership presence is needed....lest Andy Dalton attempt a Dak 2016 lockeroom coup

@shabazz is just playing dumb for whatever reason. This is how he copes with what's going on lol.

If the Cowboys felt like he does about Dak they would've rescinded their offer and started Dalton. But these guys will sit here and try to convince those with brains that this means they have no faith in him even though Dak is the one who turned them down and betted on himself.

Good let him bet.

He will lose. Save this.

Agreed that the uncertainty of the season might have pressured Dak to sign the tag, but that still doesn’t mean signing the tag was a necessary step to getting a longer term deal prior to the July 15 deadline. My guess is he never intended to sit out the season even if the season weren’t in jeopardy, but who knows?

Hallelujah. Now the endless threads about Dak's contract can phase themselves out and maybe every new thread won't also be trying to convince me of how good or bad he is. Wishful thinking, I know.
quite wishful

Of course his bet wont pay off.

McCarthy has seen greatness at the QB position and Rayne aint even close to that. Some of our fellow posters are actually twisting this 'Franchise Tag" as a victory lap, but that was predictable

This is nothing more than a stop gap until MM finds HIS real franchise Qb. So far everything is happening as many of us predicted but some refuse to grasp the reality of the situation

gasping...ok here it is, I'm no expert, and my opinion is no better than anyones here, but I think with all my heart, that Dak had zero reason to sign this deal now, other than the fact he wanted to be part of team activities, and he is privy to the fact a long term deal is very close. It shows good faith in my opinion. And this foolishness that Dallas would entertain rescinding the tag if he didnt sign it now is BS! That crap story came from Mike Florio. Totally made up, no basis for it. Dak had no pressure whatsoever to sign it Monday.THAT WAS ALL DAK. Thats who he is, a team guy.He wanted to be with his team and getting on the same page with them and the new staff. STOP LISTENING TO FAKE SPORTS OUTLETS.Florio really screwed the pooch on this. That why I dont watch, read or listen to anything his ilk says. Its all for ratings, click bait. ESPN AND NOW SKIPPY BAYLESS & FS1 is prime example of this absolute garbage. I do my own research and digs. I recommend we all do that. We live in a time where we really cannot trust ANYTHING that comes from the TV set, or radio for that matter. Only a fraction is fact or based in truth. Like my late Daddy always said...its an old saying, "Believe NOTHING of what you hear, and half of what you see." I live by that.
