That’s what Dak Prescott has made so far in the NFL. Even if he signs a 4yr/$36m per year contract - the Cowboys still got an insane bargain over an 8 year span!

That’s just my personal opinion.
Then he should have played better in college, got drafted in the first round and had a bigger payday if he wanted more in his first four years.
Call it an apprenticeship. You get paid when you become a journeyman, not whilst training.

4 years is 4 years, whether for Dak or Wentz.

Wentz’s guarantees are spread over more years. So to argue that Dak would be taking less for the totality of his contract is not accurate.

You guys keep trying to argue Dak’s 4 year contract demand is the same as Wentz’s or Goff’s 4 year extension. It’s not.

If you believe the reports Dak isn’t taking less. He wants the same guarantees (or more) that Wentz and Goff got but over a shorter period.
As he should. Not his fault they didn’t offer enough when it could have been a extension. Now it’s a new contract. If JJ could have gotten it done last year or year before they would have more years to spread it out.

The money/cap hit is spread over 5 years, but the length of contract is still 4. That’s a benefit to the team for signing Wentz before his previous contract expired. The Cowboys weren’t able to make that happen, so they don’t get that benefit, but that doesn’t change the fact the term of the new deal is 4 years. And the reality Is, Wentz may actually have gotten a better deal than Dak is asking for because he got signing bonus money even before his extension kicked in - Dak didn’t get that early Christmas present. Of course, just as the Eagles got a benefit by getting a deal done early, that was a benefit Wentz got for getting a deal done before his contract expired.

I wish I had earned over $2.7 million in my 40 year career. Dak's deal will get done and he will get paid. And like someone said above, they don't seem to be quibbling over money, but rather the length of the contract.

At the time, as our second pick in the 4th round, he was happy. No question he out performed his contract, but no one took advantage of him. He could have signed a new deal at the start of last season, but chose not to do so. He hoped for a great year and even more money. But 8-8 is troubling. Don't know what he's asking. Don't know what is being offered. No way the fo should feel guilty about the way things have worked out to date.

Funny how you weren't complaining about the team record at 13-3, 9-7, and 10-6. Ironic how the team record is so important to you after 3 years all of a sudden.

Very true.

Dak has played great and produced much more than he has been compensated for.

On the flipside though, if Dallas got only 1 playoff with him on that bargain deal, how will they get more than that when Dak is taking up a significant percentage of the cap?

That's what concerns me.

Doesnt concern me at all. The real culprit got fired along with his cronies. Dak has had an amazing first 4 years for a QB.

And as far as the salary goes, the Cowboys have fully prepared for this and managed the cap well.

That it is. Ergo, salaries need to take into account the whole team, not just one individual.

LOL...……..a pipe dream. Team record figuring into salary. If only it were true.

I disagree with back pay too. What I don’t disagree with is him wanting to get top dollar instead of looking to sign a team friendly deal.

I have nothing against a player getting top dollar.
That is why I mentioned his agent helping to put him in
position to get exactly that.

I can only imagine the call he received from his agent essentially telling
Dak to shut up after he had came out and said he didn't feel like he deserved
to be highest paid early last season...lol

Probably something along the lines of "you're messing with my commission."

My position on the Dak saga is pretty much "I don't have one."
I'm going to watch every game no matter who the players are.

8-8 is more a reflection of our poor defense and special teams, not to mention Howdy Doody.

Look how much we paid Romo. He got market value and at one point his contract was the highest paid. How many playoff games in 10 years. How many playoff games with Dak in 4 years. He is on pace with this team to get more done. So does that mean we are better off than with Romo. I liked Romo.

He was a 4th round draft pick so what is your point? In the same 2016 draft Paxton Lynch was selected in the 1st round and made more money but sucked. The point is where a player is selected in the draft dictates their rookie contract.

One would think JJ would learn from his mistakes and not overpay

Dak made what any 4th round pick would. Dak also made more than those in endorsements. And going forward the cap doesn't revolve around what a player might've made in previous seasons.

All players have to go through a rookie contract which is determined based on College and expected performances. Sure Dallas got 4 cheap years but Dak is about to make himself 120m+ Off of the platform Dallas gave him. There’s no loser here.

And before someone says he gets nothing if injured, that risk is somewhat mitigated insurance policies.

And 50 million in endorsement - at least half of that is because of the star on his helmet - no sympathy - he was dropped in a perfect situation! He should be thanking his lucky stars!

He deserves it. Anyone that says otherwise is just a hater. He’s going to get paid. Whether he’s here in the Cowboys or elsewhere.

He accomplished nothing over that period. Why does he deserve a raise? Let some other team be held hostage by Mr. mediocrity.

The thinking that he's owed back pay is something I disagree with.

Exactly. Free market economy. Both sides agreed to the deal.
I understand an employee's perspective of outperforming his pay rate and I can understand asking for an extension last year as a way of getting some significant money in his pocket early. I could view that as helping to balance the scales.
However, the bottom line is that its not "owed". There is no obligation for the organization to do so. Anything that is done before the original contract is up for the players benefit would have to be viewed as a courtesy or act of good will.

People can poo poo the benefits of playing for the Cowboys and Jerry all they want. It doesn't change the fact that its a REAL and significant financial benefit. Jerry puts these players in positions to reap rewards away from the game. Some players and agents don't want to acknowledge that when it comes time to negotiate.
